Where's the option for "I'm cheap, so I read it for free on the USPA website"? Cause that's all me, I don't "own" an SIM, but I've read the heck out of the online version. Edit to add: AFF student with six jumps, reading it for my A.

Flight of Icarus, Iron Maiden. Sure, it's got a sucky sad ending, but for the most part the song kicks butt. It's hard not to think about tom petty's learning to fly, but that's just cause the cameraman that filmed my first jump put it on the tape.

I would definitely agree with that one. When I commisioned an artist to draw up my tat we went through about seven different versions of it until we both got on the same page and he drew the final version. I have all of the rough drafts and the final drawing as well. The last thing I wanted was some flash off of the wall. The guy who actually inked me couldn't draw for crap, but he was fantastic at putting something already drawn up on people. My tat is unique, it reflects my personality well (Nursing isn't a job I have, it's a passion), and it looks pretty good. It also hurt like a mutha, but I'm skeered of needles

I have one tat on my left arm, it's a cadueceus that I had an artist draw, I like it cause it's got a hidden mistake in it that I put in on purpose, and three ear piercings. Two left, one right.

diving exits and hop&pop

Oh my goodness, does sound like scary fun. -
Hope you rookies are ready for this?

I'm not sure what the rules are, but with all this time off d/t the weather, I wonder if instead of "doing stuff" (for lack of a better idea of what to call it) like turns and whatnot, if I could just go up with my JM and just jump and see how stable I am. My last level was doing the 180 and 360 degree turns, right now, I'd just like to see if I can stay stable and maintain my alti awareness. I don't want to say that I'm afraid, but I do have a healthy respect for what I probably lost over the course of this winter. I really need to get my butt to Florida or Arizona or somewhere warm (I should probably take the rest of me as well ) -
Yeah, I'm guilty of that. I haven't taken any lessons on packing, but when I brought the rig back inside, after going over the dive with my JM I've been watching the person repack it, and asking questions when I thought it wouldn't distract them too much. I'm lucky enough to jump at a DZ that has both a C-182 and a KingAir 99. Hopefully this summer I'll get some good practice at spotting and low jumps.

That's one thing that has worried me more than I'd like to admit, I started AFF late in the year (I did my first jump on August 13) and was only able to do six jumps, the last one was on Oct 19, so I wonder how much I've lost on the winter break. I've been reading the SIM and watching my fly like a pro video, but until I get back in the air, yikes. -
Why do the static liners do better with packing? (not trying to argue, I'm honestly curious about that one) I haven't done my hop and pop jump yet due to this infernal winter, but I can see how they would have a definite leg up on me with low jumps. Maybe I'll take a day and do a SL just to see how it feels, might not be a bad idea for me, especially if it gives me a little psychological edge on that level. Heck, I'll take any little help I can get.

If they don't get it on tape, it didn't happen! Seriously, though, {{{{{Vibes}}}}} for the both of them.

If it helps make me a safer skydiver and more likely to stay out of the hospital, I'm all for it. Adding it to AFF seems like it would be a pretty good idea. As a still-on-AFF person, I'd rather learn good canopy piloting habits from the start than trying to "unlearn" any bad habits I have. -
I travelled pretty widely when I was in the Navy, and I think that this is the greatest country. Sure, our people are great, but there are fantastic people everywhere. I think what sets us apart is our level of freedom. We can worship how we want, speak fairly freely, protest our own government, act like a complete nincompoop if we want to, vote, enjoy the fruits of our labors, things like that. Are we perfect? No. I honestly believe that this is the greatest country that the world has ever known. I love this land, I love her people, I put my own tender body on the line to do what I could to protect her, but I would never say that we are perfect. Oh, and our beer kicks much butt as well.

I believe I'll have another beer!

Whatever happened to good old fashioned thread hijacking?
SkydivingNurse replied to Muenkel's topic in The Bonfire
Booya! No more stinking cypress for me! I don't need no stupid reserve! I'm gonna jump this little 60 sq ft and 270 at 75' AGL! Up the irons! -
I'm not -certain- what it is -- Janet Jackson device
SkydivingNurse replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
My name's not baby, it's Janet, Miss Jackson if you're nasty. -
Exercise, a hot shower, and a thunderstorm cd on the stereo. And if all else fails, get a special forces type to kick that clowns ass!

Finally got my copy of "Fly Like A Pro"
SkydivingNurse replied to SkydivingNurse's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Really nice video, I liked the accuracy trick, and I especially like the part where it talked about getting comfortable with the low speed characteristics of a canopy before trying to get more aggresive (for lack of a better word). If this infernal PA weather ever turns nice again, I've got a few things to ask my JM will let me try a few things, flying in half-brakes, trying a rear riser turn, that sort of thing. I've watched a bunch of peoples videos, but this is the first time I've actually watched something educational. I'm glad I bought this one. Edit to add: Now that I have this one, any suggestions for my next one? I'm thinking pack like a pro, but any suggestions for a still wet behind the ears AFF student would be appreciated -
My hospital never seemed so asslicking cool!
-
It works if you want it to work. Someone tried on me once, I wasn't too keen on the idea, so no luck.
-
Groundskeeper Willie would approve!

Sweet, that video always makes me want to be in the military again.

Belgian beers on tap? That's SICK! I gotta get there soon

{{{Vibes}}} I'm about to meet Larry Bell of Bell's Brewing fame for his Pittsburgh debut of a lovely Belgian Tripel. I'll keep my fellow DZ.commers in mind tonight
