  1. I searched the forums and didn't find anything on this subject, so here goes: Does anyone have any idea what color shows up best against the sky? What I mean is, for someone standing on the ground, looking up at the divers, what color canopy would show up best against a blue sky? I'm a long way away from buying my first canopy, but when I eventually do, this is going to be one of the things I think about. Thanks in advance for any help.
  2. My car is "The Alien" Only reason I named it that is because she's a Ford Probe GT. My mechanic keeps telling me to get a new car, my friends all make the usual "anal probe" jokes, but she's my baby. And for a semi-sports car, I can fit four kegs in the back if I put the rear seats down.
  3. I agree, Jadyn is a very cool name.
  4. I've only jumped six times, and I still don't understand it.
  5. Couldn't agree more. They're talking about football, right? I think I'll stick with a good book instead.

    Lasix?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Sorry. I couldn't help myself. Lasix is the brand name of furosemide, a loop diuretic that will make you pee like crazy, but prolly won't do a thing for your vision. I know, I know, you meant LASIK. I haven't had that good a laugh in a long time, thanks!
  7. There are already plans to replace it, the Next Generation Space Telescope will return images that, hopefully, will be just as impressive as Hubble returned in her day.
  8. I agree, for something that has shown us so many wonderful images of the universe, to hell with the cost, let's go get it and put it in a place of honor.
  9. Robert Byrd, isn't he the same Democrat who filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964? Hmm....
  10. At least you have Great Lakes Brewing Co. there to make the winter more enjoyable
  11. I'm not jumping right now because it's too freaking cold here to jump and I haven't been able to line up the time off of work that I would need to make a road trip to warmer climes. Six jumps so far, my last one was three months ago . I can't wait to get back into my AFF program again. The bug definitely bit me. Had my first (beer?) skydiving dream last night, a stoopid-scary dream about doing a hop-n-pop from a C-182~scary cause I've never done a hop n pop.
  12. Even though my politics lean pretty far to the right, one rule that has always helped me with the politicos from both sides of the isle is: How do you know when a politician is lying? Their lips are moving. Just my $0.02
  13. That reminds me of something I saw to the effect of "NASCAR drivers are wimps, I can do 160mph standing on my head". Not that I personally can, of course, but it made me chuckle.
  14. http://www.merck.com/mrkshared/mmanual_home2/sec06/ch090/ch090c.jsp That outa be good for a scare or two.
  15. I envy you then. I wish I had that kind of willpower.
  16. I had wanted to get a couple of bottles of Westvleteren 12 for my JM's (I'm so ashamed, I've jumped six times and haven't bought beer yet ) along with a case or three of Sam, my local watering hole (D's Hot Dogz & Six Packz) finally got a few bottles of the stuff in yesterday. I bought two bottles, they cost $11.98 a piece, but it was worth it. The aforementioned bottles are now in a cool dark place, aging and maturing and anticipating their future in someone's belly. So if anyone near Pittsburgh wants to try the beer that many people call the best in the world, better get there quick, I'm sure they won't last long. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/rate_results/313/1545/
  17. Once, got to altitude, everything was looking good, light wind, no clouds, but I didn't feel right for some reason (this was my AFF 2 jump) so I rode the plane down. My JM's and everyone at the DZ gave me a pat on the back, said I did the right thing. I think it was at that moment that I decided to stick with this whole jumping out of airplanes thing. Edit to add: my JM's jumped and had a good time. I think I should have bought beers for my first ride back down, oh well, I'll just have to make up for it when this damned winter weather goes away.
  18. (points mind controlling disgronification ray at 2fat2fly)~ There are no black helicopters, what you saw was just swamp gas reflecting off of the Aurora in Venus' atmosphere.
  19. I think that even if people aren't going to pray for someone (that's an intensely personal decision), then whoever is on the recieving end of said vibes will appreciate the fact that people are thinking about them, if even for only a short while. Positivity! I love it. (but I would like to see {{{BOOBIES}}} threads~being a single guy and all )
  20. Two sixers of Hardcore Crisp Apple Cider Two bottles of Great Lakes Christmas Ale Two bottles of Trappistes Rochefort Two bottles of Winter Solstice One bottle of Old Crustacean barleywine Some Sam Adams to boil tonight's braut Aforementioned Braut Milk? Eggs?
  21. So my student 230 ft canopy would be really high performance? "Introducing the new Ares 950 sq ft canopy, from Celestial Designs, Inc. For extreme pilots and astronauts only." Can you imagine a Martian AFF canopy? Edit to add: Lander? We don't need no steenking lander! Just open a hatch at around 45000 ft, I'll take it from there.
  22. Caffeine, like alcohol, supresses the body's release of antidiuretic hormone. That's why you have to pee so much when you drink either one of them, they make your body get rid of water much faster. I need my coffee, I love my coffee, (goes to grab another cup o' joe)
  23. Couldn't agree more about the X Prize thing. We've been to the Moon, we've landed little remote control cars on Mars, now, IMHO of course, it's time to put our collective noses to the grindstones and start colonizing space. The ISS is a nice toy, but we really need to put something in place with spinning rings so that the astronauts don't have to worry about bone degeneration, then establish something on the moon to stage our space craft for trips to Mars. These things will take a long time to do and cost a lot of money, but it really needs to be done. Humans are explorers, we're smart and tough and adaptable, but getting the requisite "gumption" seems to be the sticking point. Space is calling, I hope we answer soon.
