Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the best way to get back from a long spot is to release the brakes (this makes you canopy fly at its most efficeient) and then pull on the rear risers. This should be more efficient then just pulling the breaks as you alter more of the canopy glide angle (you actually drop the full rear 1/2 of it, as opposed to just the trailing edge if you just use brakes). But it is much harder on the arms.... ouch I can cover more distance this way under my Stiletto 170 loaded at 1.5 (yes, I'm fat...) then my wife under her Tri 120 loaded at 1.25 even when she flies in 1/4 brakes.

Hi Guys, The CSPA has in my opinion, a very good instructional program (there has been official coaching training for years!!!) Have a look at the link below: its what's called the Basic Skills Grid. It covers all the pases of the jumps (prep, inflight, FF, Canopy, equipment, technical). Its made to go hand in hand with PFF (kinda like AFF). http://www.cspa.ca/en/Online/PDFs/SkillGridBasic.pdf There is another grid for internediate level, but its not online....

Had a similar ride in Mike Mullin's King Air at Quincy a few years ago.... only at 1,000 feet.. Mike came on the PA, and said "Time for the mandatory FAA seat belt check" and there we were, being held down by them seat belts! fun ride...

Step away from the baggy jumpsuit.....

Agreed Chuck... It is nice to find out after a reserve ride that you had the right response at the right time... And allright Michele! Good job, and keep on practicing those emergency procedures (I know I do on every mental rehersal on the ride to altitude)... Remi

Maybe she's got a secret crush on you and she's the one keeping hitting that pic!!!! (that should put a smile on your face!) -
Zen, maybe you need some "extra" coaching... Not so much for skills (althought it never hurts) but for confidence building... If the 4 ways you get on never mount to anything, and you start to question your abilities, I think the best thing you can do is to build your confidence back up (this way, if you think someone else thinks you're not up to par, you'll know its not the case)! Do a few 1 on 1 with a coach (or if none are around for you, an experienced friend, but one who knows how to observe)... make some tough moves (side slides, cats without cheating...) Focus on proximity, being there, then, only then, once you're there, close, take the grip (get the hint?). And let us know how you get on! Remi PS: I'm no freeflyer, but I am sure that being good at RW will help you at FF, and in the same way, being confident in your RW skills will help in FF!

A couple of comments (A bit like you Hellian, I'm guestimating... but I've got some problems with your guesses) Just 2 people hook in England?????? They must be shape shifters, coz I've seen more then that, and just at Langar.... (its been a while since I went to Hinton, the only other place I know in England, so I dont remember how many were hooking it there)... And as far as the 18 to 1 ratio: how many biggish (LET, Caravan types) planes are there in the UK? about 8? then add about 20 cesnas? In florida alone, there must be at least 20 large turbines (Otter, King Air, CASAs, SkyVans...). Then add the little places like Perris and Skydive AZ (each doing about 100,000 jumps a year), and all these places running 12 month / year... The 18/1 ratio might not that far off (maybe over, maybe under). Plus, when dealing with small numbers, you need a much larger sampling (say a good year maybe 10 deaths, and the next, you get a plane accident, and your up to 32). Remi PS: a good year, statistically... in the real world, a good year would be, we all agree, 0 deaths.....

Jess: treat this as a warning... make statements so wide like "I love you all" and you end up waking up the riff-raff (yes, thats you Skreamer)....
-
If anyone wants to know: I called Lapalisse, and they confirmed that the boogie would be at their DZ (not Vichy) and that the planes would be 1 DC3 Turbine and 2 Skyvans. Pity... no antonov jet.....

Not that I would EVER encourage anyone to copy copyrighted material, but if someone has an existing link to a MPG of the First Jump course of the movie Fandango, I really would appreciate (a bit of a shot in the dark since I've never seen the clip online).... Its an oldie, but a classic! plus, extremely accurate (if not a bit condensed )

Well, fraps are better then nothing, and as someone said, they do pack real easy....plus... they look the part!!! (I'm not that old, but frap were the only way to go when I started.. it was the kewl headgear to have... I guess I am that old after all) Even since I had my full face, I still used the frap when dispaching IAD students (this way, you show the good exemple of wearing a helmet, and you still can talk to them). Maybe a velocity type helmet would do that too, but I dont have one, and maybe it would be harder to hear them... And would you trust your JM if he/she was wearing a Protec? lol (no offence to all the nice Protec wearing people out there)

I t does look legit looking at the web site address and the email address (and the web site is definatly legit)... And who would have the time to waste to do a prank like this??? ... Skreamer? ;-)

We SHOULD be at Langar this weekend (as u said, freaking weather permitting!) And dont worry, I wont tell Emma about Hinton... And by the way, Canadian beer is good stuff: none of that wimpy 4% lager you see in the UK... Its not 12% belgium nectar, but you dont need 12 pints to get hammered! Remi
-
And then you see him, and you find out just how funny he really is! PS: not sure if you;ll want to pay the beer next time I come around Langar....

Having lived in Canada (Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, NWT, so a wide experience) and England... Canadain weather ROCKS compared to the UK!!!! at least there's a summer, not just 12 months of gloomy rainy fall....
