  5. First, congrats on AFF 1... you didn't have to do it perfect... just doing it is an awesome accomplishment! Second, about the door hesitation... just know that being out the door is better than being in the door! Don't over-think it all. The more jumps you do the better it gets and the more it will all come together!
  6. Actually, I wish Sparky was still playing too! I learned a phenomenal amount about skydiving and some much needed people skills from Sparky. And let me tell you mostly what he did was lay a base for me. A solid on-heading base so that I could tell what I was doing right and wrong. Then he has this wicked way of making you get the heck out of the door without worrying about it all. It's more a game than it is anything else with him. He wasn't much more than just an orange target for me in the times when I had 32 jumps to my name. And until my skill level increased so that I could think beyond just acquiring the target, he made sure I didn't do something stupid or jump where I couldn't deal with it. He taught me to not be cargo under my canopy and he showed me it's OK to stand my ground if spotting required it. Never not once did I ever feel not safe with him around the DZ. When I was ready to start playing in "zoo" loads he had great advice and encouraged me to learn from others. But never has he not offered me a perfect ear and he can listen at the terminal velocity speed. So Michael is every bit THIS GUY! A few years and a couple of hundred jumps later, he's also my best friend! If not for him, I wouldn't be ready for where I am headed. P.S. He also includes me in some of the best parties with the guys you started this jumping from planes so many years ago. History has a way making me feel goose bumps~~ P.S.S. I will always jump with anyone who asks and/or I know they are needing a jump buddy. It's all part of paying it forward!
  7. great thread... even for those with older eyes~~~ thanks for inspiring those with pics to post them
  8. I was referring to me supporting them in the sports/activites they will do. Not in how I am raising them. Manners are important no matter who you are or where you are... I agree! IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  9. WOW!!! I;m jealous! The only people who support me are my friends who jump~~ I know that my kids will have a whole other world for them than I do. IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  10. I had a gear up landing...compression fracture of my tail bone and right pelvic fracture. YEP!!! Been there. When I was healed...14 weeks later I moved to California. I had all those looks I could take. IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  11. DITTO~~~ I took it in Oct 2005 and felt the same. Experience and a half to know I wasn't cargo anymore!!!! IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  12. I live with the EXACT same. I took my two kids and moved 1200 miles away. Distance doesn't cure it but it sure helped~~
  13. UNBELIEVABLE~~ Just when you think your world can get no worse... you realize it really could. IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  14. Desperate people do desperate things~~ IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  15. The beer was great! The stories were even better! Don't get a chance like that very often! IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  16. I like knowing what both sides of the clouds look like~~ IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  17. I started jumping at 43... I worry too about how long I will be blessed with jumping. I always work with the worst case scenario and work my way down.. part of my job. But in this case, you aren't at the worst case.. not yet,, and besides you aren't really letting go of the door... you are walking into a new room! IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  18. I would also so buy this book.. this after my TARGET trip this afternoon. Why do children keep growing??? Mine would be::: "WHAT'S THE POINT?" IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!

  20. Funny, it's the first thing I thought as well. I mean, it seems she needs to know something about the free world. Her kids are wonderful. I don't know her husband all that well but I get the impression he's every bit the control freak... IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  21. This is true. I think that's one of the few criteria I will never be able to let go of. Walt Is this the first time I have seen Walt make a wish list?? IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
  22. I'm at work. And I'm telling some nurses what I feel like when I jump. I was going to use some reference to sex,,,,,really great sex.. Before I can finish this allegorical story, this very attractive nurse who is 20, married with 3 kids says, "What is that?" I say what??? She says, "I just tell my husband to cover me when he's done." OK, am I wrong but what the hey??? IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!

    Goose-stepping

As a RN I see this often. Women are very into this... Me personally??? I don't play games. I don't care if someone likes what I say or do or not. I know right from wrong and I don't cater to other's hysteria. I do however, look that person in the face and confront whatever it is that I feel others are goose-stepping. It usually ends there. If not I continue to speak boldly where few will go...it does quieten down. IF you are going to be Stupid - you better be tough!
