Cessna 210 is a NICE airplane..... retractable landing gear

I scan as wide a view as possible, as i deploy, soas to anticipate and respond if i'm on any sort of intersecting path,, with another jumper... then... I do a visual Inspection of each of my 3 ring locking loops and cables to assure that they are solid, and the cables are well seated... then mostly the same as others...assess my location relative to the dz... un clip wings, take the toggles in hand, release brakes, stow slider.. almost never loosen my chest strap... i get plenty of performance outta my canopy, thank you very much... slow and careful suits me just fine... don't HAVE to go ramming around the sky, and get to the ground, as fast and as speedy as possible....i leave that to others..... i try to be the one doing a stand-up In the pea gravel,,, as long as traffic conditions allow for it,,, Otherwise, I always yield the right-of-way...

jimmytavino replied to Heyman777's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
so then....are these the NEW rules??? or WAS there a cutaway, ??? after which you were INFORMED that it's YOUR financial responsibility??? either way... I call bullshit.... let WHO ever cut away the main,,, pay for it ... or else ( DUH ) have them go out and FIND the gear !!!!!... It didn't float away into outer space,, after all!!! sorry to hear of your dilemma a policy like that,, is worse than russian roulette,, one hasty chop,,, and there go ALL your wages... for like 3 or 4 HUNDRED pack jobs... that's ridiculous.... jmy -

I think it's more complicated than that. Experienced jumpers doing stupid things with tandem rigs are probably unlikely to sue a manufacturer. Far less likely than real tandem students. ... however, surviving family members, spouses, children etc.... who could be far less ENthused about this sport,,,, could very likely look for some sort of 'compensation' for the loss of the loved one....in the sad event of severe injury or death... hence,, litigation, which equals expense, and aggravation for a defendant, not to mention bad P R .... not a very fair payback to the pioneers of tandem..... IMHO j

corny and pathetic i can accept ... but you could be right about inappropriate, so i'll delete it... hell i don't even know the guy...none of my business.. sorry for the situation ... good luck... j

take the S.O. B. to 5,000 feet... for a 60 second freefall..... THEN he may learn the GRAVITY of the situation.... just my ....$ .02

exactly.... thanks nigel99 for your understanding.. For Sure. tandem Had been operated under a waiver,,, having to do with, i believe, "every jumper must have his or her OWN harness container, ( rig) system..with TSo reserve AND a Main" ( paraphrasing on my part)..since the introduction of this "training method".... However I am Not sure...... if that circumstance STILL exists.. or has recently changed.....in the last year or two....sorry.. Maybe those TMs who are active, and more up to speed on THIS,, than I am,, could chime in here.. thanks... THAT folks,, IS the reason why it IS different than jumpers simply using conventional sport gear...when they undertake "unconvential aerial stunts".... more power to those creative ones amongst us... but let's see a fair degree of common sense, and for sure... lets avoid the "Monkey see , Monkey Do" scenarios which such stunts give rise to..... Safety.... It's not just a Dream,,, it's our JOB.. jt

Great reply, I never thought about the manufacturer going out of business thing, good point.

in reply to "when a tandem parachute is in use" ______________ Exposure to Liability....for the manufacturerbased on behavior of those outside of their control... those who WANT to try such a thing are welcome to attempt it.. but the completion and bragging of it,, might earn them less respect rather than More... not sure how it is in Europe, cause i'm not sure who builds the tandem equipment that is used....and whether manufacturers can create a condition of the sale , which assures no exposure to lawsuits... but In The USA... Isn't Tandem still done, under An FAA waiver ,which has been the case since Ted Strong and Bill Booth,,,, first Pioneered the technique?? or Has that changed in the last couple of years? ( i'm not a Tandem master ).... I only say it's a poor idea, and for the very reason i mentioned... Don't get me wrong i DO enjoy creativity which is well thought out, and correctly performed..... as much as the next guy....hell tv shows are made of such things... But still, there's a fair degree of imitation and mimicry within those imaginations of many a jumper...( did you see an earlier post which i made )...sometimes less experienced, sometimes with POOR results... NOW in all fairness to the Original poster,,, I do apologize for turning his curious interest in the actual event....and desire to see it, into a treatise,,, on whether or not you ought to DO it !!!!..... so I AM sorry for that... I'd be interested in seeing it too..... but would likely store it away in the "don't try This" category..... denete... thanks for the 'term' i was looking for,,, in describing the area above and below the tandem.....might rather call it "Cone of Uncertainty".....still well worth staying away from... jmy
-
does it matter???... If it WAS 3 'experienced people'??? and EVEN if they DID manage to pull it off... and document it....it's still a poor idea... Mostly,, cause it gives OTHERS the idea.... "HEY Let's try THAT...." sorry,,, don't know where to find the vid... jt

good for you... how come you didn't do a 4 way?? how about the photo credit?? Looks like it was a nice day, In Colorado jmy in ny

Why? Is this trick not allowed? "tricks" can be ,,,,, well, tricky... Imagination is all well and good, and jumpers often have plenty of imagination... BUT just cause we can envision something,, does NOT make it smart to try, or SAFE... i'll cut you some slack, cause your experience is only now, starting to grow,,, But the concept of " Burble" and the understanding of IT and of it's ramifications, seem to be lacking on your part... JUST trying to get over the top of a tandem,,, will put you in a BAD spot... it would be real easy, to FALL on the pair..(since they are effectively "stealing your air" ) . then you risk, sticking a foot into someones' face, or taking someones Helmet, in YOUR face, or worse,, dislodging your Pilot chute, or THEIR reserve ripcord, or THE worst,,, incapacitating yourself or the TM... THE area between the TM's back, and the inflated drogue is Waaaay OFF limits.... and while it seems COOL to fly up and grab a bridle.... THAT my friend, is foolish AND dangerous.... especially since the TM,,, CANNOT see you... A crucial aspect of the symphony which occurs between the TM and the video person,, Includes, visual Contact... The TM does NOT wanna be worrying about,, "where the hell did the camera go"???... Sure i often move, during a tandem video,, and after getting a nice view of the students face, and that big smile,,, will get BIG, and "run uphill" to a full frame shot of the drogue,,, but I will always stay well outside of their vertical path, and i won't stay there, for Long, AND I'll still be oriented 'face to face' with the TM.... If it's a TM with whom i've worked before,, he or she will KNOW what i'm doing, and will realize, that i will shorty drop right back down in Front of the Pair,,, well before i sideslide to the ripcord side , to catch the deployment.... IF the Tm and I have Not worked together, I will Always brief the TM,, about my intentions, and about the approx. altitude,,,, at which i would perform, such a move...(AND will forego that shot, if the TM so requests...) I always stay outside of their "air channel".. NEVER touch, any part of the drogue or bridle, and only touch the tm or the student,,, IF it's been "dirtdived" ahead of time.. As for UNDER the tandem.... well I personally wouldn't do it,,, ( Not a huge advocate of back flying, since personally, it doesn't suit my body size and shape),,, PLUS should anything unforseen occur with MY gear... I would then imperil the tandem pair... The excuse " i was trying to get that Unusual, or Unique angle".... just doesn't justify, the risk involved.. Plus lets remember that at least in the US the manufacturers of the tandem gear, clearly stipulate what is and what isn't acceptable, and as long as the onus is also on THEM.... and they could be affected by any legal repercussions from an incident,,, respect MUST be given, to THEIR guidelines, and recommendations. It's really just that simple... PS nice drawing jimmy a 3914 D 12122

an earlier sentiment, which i posted here,, Must be re-written,* based on all the other wonderful comments, which i have read. * " Rickerby IS the kind of guy, who makes you smile..."

distracted by the two UP lookers, the driver of a white van creamed the sports cars in front of it, dented the vans' hood, and cranked the ladders around, so that they almost fell off the rack... He jumped outta the van and shouted, " is it a Bird??? Is it a Plane??? " No " he was told by the pair,,, "It's Just PopsJumper" jmy

Fire destroys skydiving center
jimmytavino replied to PhreeZone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
agreed..... likely an electrical problem. compounded by a lack of anyone actually onsite, when it began.... if a dzo is that far in trouble vis -a -vis mortgage or rent payments,,, then likely he or she wouldn't be paying insurance premiums either.. ....besides, wouldn't ANYone, remove at least MOST of the gear, and the plane as well,, if they WERE considering such a BAD idea??? perhaps this suggestion was made, offhand, and as a flippant response... jt -
Should the US Negotiate with the Taliban?

good points in sales it helps alot to sell the 'benefits'.. even moreso, than the product, itself... How will the 'buyer' BENEFIT from the related transaction???.. the past administration,,,,has always been about how THEY would benefit,,, and sadly they even got THAT wrong,, , Example,,," we'll smoke out OBL, wild west wanted posters Etc...,, Not to mention,,, the iraq fiasco where "WE'll be greeted as Liberators"...and 'Mission accomplished'... What's in it for the OTHER side..??? if we can satisfy Their needs, at far less cost and loss of life, than satisfiying OUR Own needs... then foreign policy blunders can be turned into foreign policy wonders..... -
... for a moment there,,, I thought i had opened the thread by turtlespeed,,,, titled,, "are you arrogant enough"... hahahah... pretty good " Goof resume' " ,,,,, IF it was a goof... But alas,,, i think it is genuine and written by a "legend in his own mind".. hahahaha..... what a pair, these guys must be........ It almost makes me feel ashamed to be an Italian-Amercian... MY reply to THEM>>>>>> " i have received your extensive list of credentials... freefly coaching, and tandem video needs are well met HERE,, By LOCAL skydivers who are as humble,, as they are capable...( UNlike you two assholes) .. I also find that our club/DZ is not lacking for REAL gentlemen,, who view the Women members as Colleagues, Jumping friends, and Ladies..... and NOT as some sort of 'potential conquest'.... Please stay Home...indefinately.... However,,, Please DO forward at least 2 KiloGrams of said marijuana, for sampling purposes only,,,ASAP..... send THAT package directly and promptly to "Pecos Parachute Club" SWest USA......"in plain brown paper wrapping".... Ciao!!!!!
