My Sisters Apartment was Absolutly Destroyed...
jimmytavino replied to Unstable's topic in The Bonfire
Wow....First Pic looks like the latest attraction at the local Six Flags Park..... -
Quasimodem,, Glad to hear that your tandem was a fun and memorable time... The subtle and fine touches which come second nature to an experienced tandem Master,,, are the reason that First Jump candidates are even SAFER than they realize.... Sounds like you chose a fine fine dropzone.. How did your music turn out... on the video??? P S...be careful not to wear it out...

yes...I just love thunderstorms providing that I'm somewhere safe to enjoy them... When we were kids we learned about counting between the sight of a lightning flash and the BOOM of the thunder to "guesstimate" how far away the storm is....... I much prefer to see/feel that sizzle/pop thing.... which occurs when the bolt and the boom are right on top of one another.... .. As long as the house doesn't catch fire,,,, I love looking at the person who may be watching with me,,,,,,( the wife or the kids or some friends,),, and going,, "Man !!! That was a GOOD one",, and then laughing !!! hahahaha... ...... what a natural POWER.....

sure thing... summertime in Texas.. If you tend to perspire a lot in warm weather,,, you bet that adds to the dehydration factor.... maybe the secret is to get some H2O.. into your system ...before you see those signs.... start the day will a couple of full glasses of water... and no... coffee and tea do not count..

How many jumps before you had a reserve ride?
jimmytavino replied to SarahC07's topic in The Bonfire
# 525 i cutaway a French Papillon with shot and a half capewells. Chest mount reserve w/ pilot chute. Mini System Container....It was the summer of '76..26 foot navy reserve, stand up..( it was during a 4 way meet) Then a couple of years later I got out low,,, couldn't locate my pilot chute handle, started going pretty fast...and so pulled my reserve ripcord to feed that same 26" navy conical off my back... routine... Soon after, I towed a pilot chute by twisting my harness ,, while using a bellyband pilot chute pouch......Yikes ... got going pretty fast and was spinning... I knew something was wrong. I had a horseshoe malufunction in progress,,, but didn't know WHY>>>>anyway instead of just pouring out my reserve,, I took an instant and arched hard, and when I came belly to earth I felt the main D-bag hit me on the back of my thighs..( the pilot chute bridle had pulled sheer through the twist and popped my pin, to allow the main to get off my back... .So then i thought there is clear space above my container right NOW!!! and I pulled that blast handle and she took.....I was around 600 feet,,,,that was a bad scenario which I managed to dance away from.... Last one was about 24 years ago.. ( knock wood) I had to cutaway my ParaPlane Cloud when one side was all tied up.... 3 ring release,,, 26 foot Strong Lopo.....nice landing....( also at a meet) Oh One time I had a riser release, upon landing....It was before I owned a rig with 3 rings, and the releases were R3s.... Still individual releases but webbing tabs to pull instead of hard metal like the capewells... The R3s utilized some of the internal parts of the older style capewells and a cutaway required simultaneaous operation of the riser releases one with each hand...... As I landed the riser simply pulled off the harness and I was holding it in my hand.....hahahahaha I've owned a square reserve for 20 something years... but have never used one........ -
"The Day After Tomorrow?" .... Whenever I make a tandem video... THAT my friends Is a documentary which is 100% accurate ..... and i never deliver it "the day after tomorrow" hahahah I deliver the day the skydive was made....

yes.. an Ice Cold beer !!!! my gratitude to your Father and to those like him,,,, without whom this sport NEVER would have "gotten off the ground"... Those orignal "test jumpers" laid the framework for the "sport of the space age" to follow... Have a super super jump.... Finishing off the video with Louis Armstrong.. 'what a wonderful world' works well,,, as does U2's "Its a beautiful Day"..... have a great great time....j

yeah yeah... cute song... may have had some significance "back in the day" of 800 foot static line exits"...but doesn't apply to todays tandem skydive,,, which if you haven't yet made one,,, is actually a cathartic experience... not a hairy scarey one.... when i mix a tape for a persons first video... they choose the tune for the freefall.. But I often start out with the theme from Mission Impossible, then even use a little of The Dangerzone from top gun,,( I try to hit a shot of the Danger ..sign which is on the ladder we use to board ) to syncronize with the music... then the Heat is On ,,from Bev Hills Cop works good for the take off roll and rotation and some decent instrumentals..fill in the canopy ride, landing etc......But Hey Bro' it's YOUR video..!!!

My family swears I'll kill myself if I continue...
jimmytavino replied to rokitmom's topic in Introductions and Greets
.... you may tell your family that they are worrying unnecessarily... and That's not good for them.... Modern techniques curriculum, and equipment have done a great great deal toward mitigating many of the risks from years and years ago....which may have led,,, years ago,,,,, to the general publics misperception of Skydiving as well as their misperception of those who engage in it.... It IS a "serious" sport....... .if you're looking for "serious" FUN!!!!!!!!!!!...... "skydive safely skydive often, skydive with friends" " I remember when Sex was Safe,, and Skydiving was dangerous !!!! now it's pretty much the other way around !!! " -

.... yes we do enjoy hearing about and talking about skydiving here,,, ( thanks sangiro ) because we recognize it for the educational opportunity it offers,,, ( we also like the chance to see interesting links, look at cool photos, and hear a wide WIDE range of opinions) well Done Christian... attached are some jpegs of your # 1 AFF skydive,,,,, As well as a pic. of my 7 rotations line twists.... ( we we're VERRRRY long... I deployed at 4,500 feet AGL,,,, that Spectre 210 surprised the hell outta me, by running round and round on opening....).... BUT the canopy was fully inflated, no damage to lines or fabric, the slider was down, ( to the top of the twists) BOTH my brakes were still set,,,, AND I knew I had bookoo altitude... The tie up stopped,,, and with a fair bit of effort I was making progress towards un twisting.... But I'll say this .... it was an effort.... Lots of torqueing around with my legs and right arm.... I did an altitude check halfway through the untwist and was above 3,200 feet... The connector links finally spread away from one another by 2,600 feet or so.... I'm glad not to have needed to do a cutaway and reserve deployment... sorry to have missed the landing shot brother... I owe you at least a beer...

Thanks for the SONY Style link quade

Booties might help here...I use my legs alot for subtle turning,, and also when swooping to position, after a long dive. Properly sized booties generally can't hurt...

...Interesting point.. Skydivers may or may not be more educated,,, but they ARE sharper, maybe smarter, usually have a decent gift of brains and generally know how to think....( I said generally
