  1. .... whoa... what about those "unknowing people who simply moved into a new home in a new neighborhood".... Little did they know that they were gonna be living next door to Archie Bunker... don't like it?? call the cops... or move away,,, If you don't like " the little fuckers" it's not a big deal cause..... I bet they don't like YOU either... ... lighten up friend... life is a looong journey.. better to get along with people than to badmouth them.... That's the trouble with "very conservative suburban areas " they have NO tolerance whatsoever........instead of seeking harmony they just up and Leave... Maybe that will work for you,,, only don't move into MY neighborhood.....I'm afraid you would be unwelcome here... You see,,,Here we judge a person by their Character,, ( or lack thereof ) not their heritage...
  2. Unfortunately sometimes common courtesy and simple ettiquette get lost in the energy and excitement of an open door and a commencement of the exit..... Larger aircraft with " convenient " indicator lights... often cause this situation to be exacerbated.... Red usually means door,,, although depending on who is in the plane,,, ( and their relative "comfort" level..). it can also mean " DOOOOR!!! door door OhMiGod!!!! DOOOOOOR" !! ... as I am sure most of us have witnessed... ... Fact is....it only means,,, begin to prepare for the "ok to spot" light.... which is the GREEN light.... When the green 'lights up'... it means.. LOOK for traffic... Assess the location of the plane relative to the Spot... and IF HAPPY with everything,,, begin the climbout...... NOW.. when there are many many small groups,, or solos,, the T I's should be tuned into this,,, and should remain patient.. If there is only one larger sized group, before the tandems lets say,, then a strung out exit is less likely.... The "tuned in" T Master should not be so harried and hurried that he or She fails to get an idea of the profile of the ENTIRE lift... prior to take off..... Factor in windspeed at ALTITUDE,, and thereby the coressponding GROUND speed of the plane,,, and sometimes even 8 seconds in the door ,, may not be a problem...... A curving jumprun,, ( often executed subconciouslly) by a seasoned jump pilot,,, will often limit the likelihood of Loooog spots,,, anyway... For those who wanna "get out" or "go Go Go " NOW...!!!! suggest that they take a cessna to 3 grand and do just THAT...
  3. .......AND be sure you are IN the pea gravel...
  4. I was wondering??? How the hell did he GET the truck UP on those braces in the first place?????? If he had enough "helpers" to lift the truck,,,, maybe they shouldda just TIPPED it OVER altogether in the first place.... hahahahaha
  5. hell yes!!!!! Just as long as he ONLY charged me FIVE bucks...... ( the way it WAS in the days when guys used "mini-System" rigs.... hahahaha Mini.... that's a good one... ) ( or is it a StyleMaster rig???) .. either way.....I dig those shot and a halves...
  6. .....could it be because... We were busy FIRING them from our own aircraft instead,,, from miles away from the targets,, And blowing those targets,, on the ground in Iraq,,, to smithereens!!! I hate to think it.... but i'm afraid that the only W M D out there...had US insignia on them...... ( ask any iraqi civilian who witnessed, buildings and roads and private homes being demolished,,,and family members being killed..,,, if the Destruction seemed to them,,,,,like it was of the "MASSive" type or not....) how sad.....
  7. .... wow how exciting!!! .... on a lighter note...
  8. ...regarding this "when you leave the aircraft" comment...... May I clarify an earlier post which i made???? ... yes yes yes.. TECHNICALLY speaking that statement IS accurate.... when I said your mate was WRONG.. I think what i meant,, but did not clarify is...... To make that statement is "wrong".. it's gratuitous,, it seems intended to frighten newbies,, or Impress newbies.... Or raise the relative "ballsiness" of the one who says it.....in the eyes of the newbies... It's alarmist......... though true,, no doubt... ( I DO understand the concept of Gravity ) ( and i DO understand the concept of Apathy,, regarding "high energy sports" ) But having that idea in the back of your mind,,,, is counter productive to the task at hand....it distracts the new jumper...... As pointed out by others here,,,,In many Many things in life,,,, "you're dead if you don't do anything about it..."... get on a thousand cc motorcycle,, get up to speed, and do nothing....trouble.. Attempt to scale the face of a granite cliff,,, freeze.. or do the wrong thing.. trouble... hell get into a high speed batting cage,, stand there and let a hardball hit you in the head,, ( doing nothing to move)... trouble.... I am NOT disputing the words of the statement,, I am disputing the Fact that the words are being said to a novice.... It's sort of an "inside joke".. for the experienced crowd..In the same vein,, I very much dislike hearing "tandem Jokes"... meant to "scare" new tandem students... It's a case of an experienced jumper exerting undue influence on a novice who is not yet 'Tuned into ' the "camaraderie", of the sport,,, which sometimes involves playful joking,,, sarcasm exaggerations etc..... That stuff bothers me.... since i have always believed that an experienced jumper should be more considerate of the upcoming ones.........that's all...
  9. ....my pal says you're dead when you leave the aircraft,, you have to save your own life along the way.....*** how dramatic...!!!... well your friend is Wrong!! If he believes this then he is either just quoting what he's heard,( quite unoriginal) ,,,or he is just SCARED!!!! I am never more ALIVE,, as when i exit an aircraft... In fact when I go through that door,,, I am not jumping OUT of a perfectly good ANYTHING,,, I am jumping INTO... something... I am jumping Into the world of freefall.. and i do it with my eyes and my brains.... wide open... I never make a jump without being prepared... My gear is prepared, and my attitude is prepared,, and my game plan is one of preparation as well...( that's why we dirt dive) Sure ,, there are situation....many things CAN happen., this is a somewhat unpredictable sport... It is how we react and respond to those situations which will determine whether the sport is dangerous or safe, for EACH of us....
  10. The magical DZ which was set up and then dismantled,,, ... year after year..
  11. re the "C O "....... ..... That reminds me of the scene in Apocalypse Now... where the Martin Sheen character is in a tunnel/ foxhole complex where ALL these bullets are flyin'.. and missles are blowin' up,, and noise everywhere,, and soldiers, firing off hundreds of rounds a minute,,, at "no specific target",,, and chaos and calamity everywhere...... And he grabs some young kid who's holding a rifle,, and asks him,, "Who's In Charge around here !!???"... and the soldier looks at him with these WILD eyes,,, and replies......... .......... AIN'T YOU!!!!!!??????
  12. Damn !!!! glad there were no fatals..... here's what i think...
  13. ... Ah yes yes... the waves at the point of destruction would likely be spaced many many minutes apart.. My misinterpretation,, (by "waves" i was thinking earthquake pulses),, But now I see he means water waves,,, hitting on the distant shores... Yes the short duration pulses at the quake site would likely convert to longer times when the waves reach their end.... thanks phillykev
  14. QuoteMy highly amateur studies and readings suggest that tsunamis typically consist of a series of waves. Which makes sense. If an earthquake shakes for 2 minutes, you can expect to have a series of waves. They typically come in intervals of 5-15 minutes. Often, it is the second or third that is the largest _______________________________________________ ...I think you mean 5 - 15 second intervals within a 2 minute "quake" not minutes right? that makes sense lawrocket... and billvons chart and mention of terms like pulse and period of the wave...help to explain it.. During work today I got to thinking of my own question and it dawned on me that the Quake which did this,,, and did this at a Level 9 plus ....could have had a number of "heaves", from its' start to finish... Have there been any on -site witnesses, who can verify multiple wave hits at the same locations ?? Surely some of the higher areas inland from the waves may have allowed for safe viewing of the beach and surf... .... Of Course,,, higher priorities ( like moving to even further safety ) may have been the order of business.
  15. I understand the concept of these vicious waves.....Great,, yet deceptive speed,, Long wavelength,, and so a VERY VERY huge height.. when they reach a coastline or shallow tidal basin.... I also realize the power of water,, when it is in motion...especially at the oceanic level... What I am not sure about,, is,,,, Do these waves HIT as a"One time" blast,,,, ( as the result of the one time earthquake).. or do they follow in a series of deadly waves?? one after another...?? Does the ocean sweep IN,, then sweep OUT again??? ( it seems it Must) "sloshing around"in the coastal bays and lagoons,,, continuously pummeling the beaten landscape...????.. or does it HIT,,, then recede and "dissolve"?? How sad.... Mother nature.... She can often be Brutal...
  16. ....... hahaha...Sorry,No stomping weegegirl
