Performance Designs Bad Attitude
jimmytavino replied to binkster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
only "bad attitude",, might be yours.. never had anything but Good experiences with Performance Designs....... ... of course... everybody is different... Is it a canopy size issue ?? or maybe an availability issue... maybe your current choice is very popular.. Even though a manufacturer is willing to send you a demo,,doesn't mean they're in a hurry to do it at their expense... Did you offer to cover "next day shipping" or else shipping of ANY kind....? Have you been short or demanding when you contact them????... I'm not sure what P D 's equipment demo program is like...but I bet it's responsible and professional... You might consider being grateful that they would EVEN send jumpers brand new canopies to 'test drive' ... be that jumper AND be critical and petty and you may just push yourself to the back of the line.... skydiving is a little different than normal day to day life, and business dealings.... We do for one another out of a common respect... jumping is Not " mail order".. it's not I need to have it now.!!!... and so maybe manufactures go that extra miles for people who are skydivers first.. and customers second,,, rather than for someone.. who Notifies them that they , " will now have a demo canopy" ..... my post here is general in nature and not meant to be specific to your situation..could be.. things were much different for you,,,. but sometimes impatience can let us forget our manners.... -
how did you find stability in the air?

.... I DO use a quick release.. but it's not stroboframe..... The location of the base which mount to the helmet, needs to be adjusted forward... because yes,,, the the tripod mount threads of the camera,,, are quite forward on the camera body... depending on the 'thickness' of the quick release,, Yes.. the back part of the camcorder does float off the helmet by some distance... This can pose a problem,,, IF the camera is too far 'back' on the helmet,, since the battery is then susceptible to riser slap etc.... So position the release accordingly...It helps if your helmet has a decent sized mounting area... ( I use a Bonehead BatRak) I do not use a 'spacer' but I do implement a one inch wide webbing strap with quick clip, to go over the top of my cameras,,, as a secondary securement.. ... It IS necessary to remove the base plate from the camera to load or unload tapes... But that is really not a big deal.. I try to "prep" my gear the night before I go jumping with it... so that I don't have to be changing tapes alot... ( we all make our own videos and dubs at my club, so I am not faced with pulling the tape and handing it to an editor after every jump)... as for positioning. and alignment,, the base plate which attaches to my camera has a threaded component as well as a pin which seats, into the second recess just forward of the threads... this,, plus a visual assessment,, genrally assures that I am 'on sight'.. the cork or a foam rubber pad can help to prevent twisting... Oh be sure that the base plate which attaches to your helmet is secured in two places ( not just the one ) so that IT can't pivot,, by accident....

yes... i got the HC 85 near the end of last year it's a fine camera... carl Z lens... memory stick for almost a 2 M Pixel still... memory stick also lets you do frame grabs from the video. pretty easily... i only have maybe 30 jumps on it.. So far i am very happy with the picture quality... audio is real good too... Unlike my old TRV 20. the HC85 has the touch screen method ,, for features like,,, fade,,, overlap,,, etc ... also touch screen for playback features, such as flash, luminescence, still, power zoom.... If you spend some time with it,, and learn how to quickly negotiate through the menus,, you'll find that it is quite simple.... The edit playback features ARE good.... ... It would be tough to use with a d-box,, or any other full enclosure... since you will need access to the flip out screen, to best use the cam... I have mine set up with a quick release, which lets me hand hold the cam.. while on the ground,, boarding,, climbing to altitude etc.... It then quick connects to the helmet. I also have a 1 inch webbing with plastic quick clip which locks over the top of both vids,, for a further means of securing my cameras........ I'll have a better sense of what the camera can do,,, later on this spring,,, as our season beings again.... so far so good...

...... Yes..... however you don't HAVE to use the built-in switch of the Cam eye... to turn your camera on and off.... It is still very easy to run the camera FROM the camera, providing you have access to the stand by/ start switch.... In that case you use the indicator lights... simply to assure you,, ( as you're moving to the door,,, or while you are in freefal) that the camera is properly set... The built in switch of the cam eye,, can then be tucked away someplace INSIDE the helmet,,( Be sure to keep the plastic Cap on it , so it doesn't contact, unintentionally ) then you only need to drill a small enough hole to get the pin end of the Cam eye INTO the Lanc port,,, and the "light" end to the front of your helmet ,, or to a ringsite...

Playing cards goes way back... 34 years ago in college we played a fair amount sometimes poker,, ( dealers' choice ) so the "game" would change, each hand,, ( 5 card stud. 5 card draw, baseball,, Chicago, 7 card stud etc. etc..) Never heard of "hold 'em " til i saw it on tv we also played four handed games like, 'spades' and euchre'.. where you'd bid your hand and then try to take "tricks" or sets...one suit designated trump,, certain rules... We might play nicklel/dime/quarter games,, but since we mostly didn't HAVE much $$$$.( poor college kid AND skydiver) it was within limits financially ...and often a good way to pass some time... ( it was better than studying) To what extent is money changing hands in these games today...?? Is there normally a flat priced "buy in".. and winner take all??? I'd be ok with that if my college aged kids were taking part... (as long as the buy in is around 10 bucks or so hahaha) In that way there would be some limit,, on the "down side" ..... But if players can replenish chips from a "bank" by buying as needed,,,, then that's different...real different. In this age of ATM machines, ready cash,, and credit card cash advances.. the Allure of the table can be great... and the thought that a full house is coming on the next hand can be strong for many, and in fact irresistable to some... So what's the word on the money end of this "dormitory recreation"????

Re: totally tasteless...... I'll SAY!!!! . here we are , as a nation, all torn up over how to deal with incapacitating physical infirmities and you wanna know....... 'who'll go first'??? man,,, that's goulish.... I know skydivers have weird senses of humor.... hell I'm a big advocate of the weird sense of humor.... but not when it borders on disrespect..

Okay, truth time, who's watching American Idol?

QuoteI appreciate the fact that Nikko changed his name from Osborne (his actual name) so that his connection to Ozzie would be down-played. It was not really mentioned all that often. He was the one who came back because one guy quit and Nikko was the eliminated guy with the most votes.*** -

whatever friend...... no apology expected.... or needed... ...Figure of speech??????? it seemed more like a description of what YOU said YOU would do..... Doesn't matter.... We are all just expressing our opinions.... but bitch IS a feminine term at least according to Funk & Wagnalls, when used as a noun... " To bitch" about something,, is non gender,, but then it's a verb... my bad for coming across, sounding so critical. skydive softly skydive often skydive with friends
