Jumping while chewing gum = bad idea, right?
jimmytavino replied to Jeth's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
... I dunno... maybe not... I'd go with those who lean towards the sensible and cautious, anyday.... I have Always thought that candy gum etc .. should be finished or swallowed before the door opened.... and there usually isn't a need to have one's mouth busy with such things,,, during a skydive.... and I bet most would agree with that simple safety consideration..... but maybe I'm just an old fogey... "aside from the usual wear and tear,,,, I'm doin' pretty good !!!" -
One of the great things about this sport is... that is completely up to you, Everon We each control our growth and progression in the sport,, not only in the air, but also on the ground at the DZ before and after jumping, ...A HUGE amount of information is learned on the ground,, and then "fine-tuned and practiced" in the air... Pay attention, listen to your instructors, follow the safety example set by the "seasoned" group at your DZ and if THEY aren't "all that safe" then SET the example.. and that's a GOOD start.... Read, learn, attend seminars, pursue your licenses keep turning the pages in your logbook..... and most of alllllll >>> be Patient !!!!!.... because this is a sport that can spank you....... if you get hasty, or impetuous, or or TOOOOO bold.....too fast ..

. . . .being a skydiver is not so much a matter of "how many jumps have you done?"... it's more a case of "Has you heart and mind and most of your being, fallen in love with a most exciting, amazing and energetic sport"..... If you have exited an airplane, done a freefall and have pulled the toggles yourself, to arrive safely at the landing area,,, YOU'RE IN !!!!!!!!...

What age did you start skydiving?
jimmytavino replied to GoRdOn8619's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was.... 19 years 3 months and 1 day old. I have.... seen a lot done alot made a bunch of friends... -
I bought a Nikon D70S about a month and a half ago. Traded in sony Hc-85,,, added a few hundred bucks cash, and got the camera with an 18 - 70 lens.... wow.......... fast.......takes multiple shots.. one after another... fast... ( i have a 1 gig 80 x c f card) then YES about 3 weeks ago the MC-DC1 wired remote came in . i had one on back order...It was less than 30 bucks.... and is very basic.. ( no pc board ) I recently was able to wire a conceptus tongue switch into the Nikon remote.. The plug-in for the remote itself is different than the stereo pin on the conceptus..... i hard wired the t switch onto the cable with the male connector, which then goes to the camera body.... For the most part.. it works good.. In shooting mode " S " I seem to be able to fire the shutter just about as fast as i want.. In Auto Mode,, same thing,,, except that IF the built in flash opens and fires,,,, the camera will not fire another shot again,, until it is shut off and then powerd Up again,,,... I have not bought a speedflash for the camera yet,,, so Not sure how THAT will affect the shutter activation... I went to buy a second MC-DC1 Nikon remote and they were all gone.. I AM on a Back Order List and hope to get a Back up remote.. soon.. Nikon also makes a wireless remote..ML-L3, which is compatible to this camera... I called to find that they are available AND only around 20 dollars..... and so I might try to get one today... Though I am not sure how useful that remote ( wireless) will turn out to be.... Still I am encouraged by the set up which I have . The conceptus switch direct spliced into the wired remote... saved having to "go into the body of the camera" and mess around with soldering and disconnect or reconnect,, etc etc..

When did you first start filming tandems for money?
jimmytavino replied to Newbie's topic in Photography and Video
..I had 1,700 jumps or so, in early 1995 when i first began jumping with a video camera... -
. . . . . . . i have been on this planet for 52 years
-
..thanks for the accurate info... i didn't mean to imply otherwise,,,, just wondering if the training and the jump coincided... also was wondering WHY emergency procedures were NOT employed as soon as the mal. presented itself............... but that question can only be answered by the student .....
-
. . . .. ..well then it's a good thing that the student did not "thaw out" around 2 or 3 hundred feet,,, and THEN resort to Emerg. Procedures......... ....then there could have been a different outcome altogether.... such, as "low cutaway" "No time for reserve to open".... Let's be CAREFUL out there...... Was there radio contact with this student??? was the "training" done on the same day as this Jump??? ... Rainchecking a tandem and Rainchecking a static line jump are two different things.... Many students can easily LOSE the many many details which it helps to have RETAINED,,,, if they are unable to jump on the day they were trained.... This may or may NOT apply to this situation... anyway... quick recovery....

.... for many years i have felt that the best place to be , in order to speak with GOD, on a sunday morning ...would be about 13,500 feet..... .....He can hear you better than if you were on the ground "My Wife goes to church WEEKLY " "I go to church WEAKLY " ...
-
... whoa !!! are you skydiving with this camera? or just using it on the ground??? ....Are you talking at all to any other video camera persons???
-
very nice. it looks like the tiles fit just right,,,, with NO cutting.. that's pretty unusual... when the dimensions match so well, that you can use full size tiles all around and everything fits... well done..... first to envision the basic table being something nicer, and second to follow through and complete it. sooo what is YOUR favorite flavor of grout???
-
way to go... on your tandem... Next jump, I hope you'll be more comfortable... I have been jumping with "my regular old glasses" for decades.... I have always owned two pairs of whatever "style" I was wearing, at any given time and I keep one pair set up with a good secure strap. which can be tightened a bit, prior to exit..These glasses stay with my altimeter and my helmet, and I switch from my 'street glasses' over to my jumping glasses, when i gear up... I tossed the goggles after about 15 jumps... As you say,, they pressed my frames against my face and also blocked my view. I'd suggest a helmet , in order to prevent the glasses AND strap from flying away..."Windblast" has never seemed to bother me, maybe i subconsciously "squint"...maybe the lenes themselves do a good enough job of protecting my eyes... Consider trying it.. Just be sure that you DO have two pairs so if something happened,,,, you could STILL drive home

..exactly what i thought.. Great pictures,,,, that DC-3 cabin looks like a "vertically mobile living room" with a door you can jump out of.. ..The seats are perfect.. Now if the jumpers were reading an 'in flight magazine'... even better !! How much fun MUST it be,,, to ride to altitude with a dozen or so friends, plus "Crew".... and when you ge there,,,, exit...sure beats the 40 minute trips, sitting on the floor, with 36 or more "pals" which used to come to mind whenever we would be jumping a " DC-3 " this is skydiving with style !! Was Harrison Ford on board for some of the jumps.???? what were your exit altitudes?? Smoke and canopies ? or any group exits.... RW?? I bet you and your teammates were crowd pleasers Nice Gig. Jim... Oh......great idea to share the fun with such nice stories and pictures... thanks for grabbing the moments when you could do that....and for bringing Oshkosh to everyone..... If you can't be there in person....be there through friends...
-
. . . well I had been feeling kind of down for 2 or 3 weeks... I had dislocated my shoulder on a skydive exit and have been ground bound since the 10th of July... It's not normal for me, to go to the dz and not be able to jump due to being on the "injured list"...... still, I wanted to be at the club and maybe be of help, where needed, or if nothing else socialize and "mingle ' a bit..... My rigger got my reserve repacked, ( I had to use it when the right arm went out at 13 grand) ( HE is a good friend,,, ) I toyed with the idea of packing my main and maybe making a jump... but realized i could not be confident that I could do it safely... wasn't sure about main deployment OR reaching my toggles... so I was feeling low. Well no problem,,, ANother Friend came to the rescue.. My favorite TM of all time Joey Eberhardt from Western New York, came up to me on sunday morning and said,,, " Jimmy... wanna make a tandem jump??? " " I'll take you !!!!!"... hahaha WOW.. I had not even thought of that.... Perfect.... I could safely enjoy a skydive

Great Just great.. enjoy the weekend...and thanks for sharing the pictures... now........ I'm off to the dropzone myself.. .

way to go twardo.... I saw a news program which was "on site" at Oshkosh during the annual air show and aircraft enthusiast gathering. the reporter spoke with H F and talked about a Junior Pilot program which allows youngsters to enjoy an airplane ride in a small plane and follow it up with lessons if they desire... ...... the camera crew and reporter must have been busy somewhere else when your "presentation' was made..... nonetheless.... preety cool.. to quote Short Round,,,, " No More parachutes!!! Doctor Jones".......
