0:0:0 You got to jump this weekend. Good for you. I showed up on Sunday around 11ish but the winds were too funky for me so I just hung around for a bit. Got in lots of kiteboarding though

What's the worst malfunction?
Casurf1978 replied to kelel01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How so? Do you and JohnMitchell both jump pull-outs? I saw that both of you also had infinitys. -
Are you sure about that. In chem class while going over the reaction of gunpowder we classified it as Low-order explosives (LE). Also gun powder deflagrates which is a rapid form of combustion. TNT detonates which is instantaneous combustion. If gunpowder was not an explosive it would not have been used as a propellant for weapons throughout history. edited for spelling and one typo.

What's the worst malfunction?
Casurf1978 replied to kelel01's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm on the same page with you. I had a nightmare the other night about a horseshoe, choped it fine but then the reserve turned into a streamer. It was so damn vivid too. -
You can say that again. There was so much info in his class. I could devote entire days to practicing the exercises from each of the 5 jumps we had to do and still not even begin to touch the full potential of my current canopy. Please dont take that as wanting to learn HP piloting/landings, just want to become a good safe pilot. My landings still leave much to be desired, but now I know what I need to work on, "trust the finish" like Scott told me.

Do you think W/L played a big factor in the way the Dash-M flew for you? I have a 181 Dash M and on my reserve ride it had a built in turn (rigger said it was attributed to weight shift in harness after the chop) and I had to fly it with the left toggle down to my chest to keep it flying straight. I landed it fine but thought for a second I was going to get hurt in the landing. I'm also getting a PDR BTW.

Same thing happened to me. You have to be really careful when paying with a DB or CC. One thing I noticed is that some places print out the full DC or CC # with the exp date on the receipt. That's all they need. Now I always check the receipt and if the full card # is there I scratch out everything except the last 4 digits. Sorry to hear this happened to you.

I'm on the same page as you are Rhino. The only problem I see with these volunteers is that they might not be well equipped or trained to deal with the smugglers. What I mean is that smuggling of illegals is a multi million dollar a year business. One of the main players in this area is the Mara Salvatrucha 13 a pretty nefarious gang. Here in LA they are known as the most vicious gang in the city. How are these volunteers going to deal with these smugglers w/o the proper training and equipment.

Report says U.S. spy agencies were 'dead wrong' about Iraq
Casurf1978 replied to tkhayes's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually BC did go after OBL. BC signed several directives that authorized the killing of OBL and other high ranking AQ personal. One directive specifically stated that we, USA, are allowed to shoot down any private civilian aircraft which would carry OBL and and head AQ operatives. We stationed 2 Los Angeles Class attack subs capable of striking of Afghanistan with cruise missels. Short of launching ground troops inside Afghanistan BC did go after OBL. I doubt very few Americans knew who OBL was or would've approved sending in troops to get OBL before 9/11. -
Good post Lawrocket. His passing saddens me, but I'm also relieved. Please dont take that the wrong way. JPII has been very sick the last few months and now at least he can rest. RIP JPII.

Since this is SC both you and wmw999 are nuts. What about Salmon, Yellow Tail, Sea Urchin, or a nice Spider Roll with some Sake and beer.

You could always try other skydiving related plates like:LV4WAYS, HRNYGORL. Althought the DMV might not like em.

Pope John Paul II given last rites at Vatican
Casurf1978 replied to BillyVance's topic in The Bonfire
The whole ritual from the current Pope's death to the election of the new one is interesting and beautiful IMHO. For example the voting of the new Pope takes place inside the Sistine Chapel. -
LMAO. You're not the only one that's happened to. A friend convinced me that Yoga, the one where you're in a hot room, is the best cure for a hangover. Biggest load of s*&^ ever. I almost passed out on her.

Some cool pics man. What was Saddam's palace like. That place must've been huge.

Same here. I'll add a few of my own: 6-Cock the PC several times while packing. Once I did it when I just had closed the container. I put my foot right on the container, tried to cock the PC and the pin came right out. Luckily no one saw. Felt like such a dork. 7-Talk to myself as I'm packing. I usually say the following "slider all the way up and not collapsed, brakes securely stowed, PC cocked, rubber bands OK, lines OK, closing loop ok and not fraid." 8-I avoid any 13 load like the plaque. Be it otter, skycan 13 any 13 load. Had my chop on otter 13.

Under attack by the intelligent and educated
Casurf1978 replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
Have you read Stephen Jay Gould's "Evolution as Fact and Theory" written in 1981. He pretty much tackles the meaning of "theory" and "fact" in the scientific world. Again like Nightingale said in science "fact" and "theory" are different than what laymen think they mean. Here's a small part of Gould's essay: "In the American vernacular, "theory" often means "imperfect fact"—part of a hierarchy of confidence running downhill from fact to theory to hypothesis to guess. Thus creationists can (and do) argue: evolution is "only" a theory, and intense debate now rages about many aspects of the theory. If evolution is less than a fact, and scientists can't even make up their minds about the theory, then what confidence can we have in it? Indeed, President Reagan echoed this argument before an evangelical group in Dallas when he said (in what I devoutly hope was campaign rhetoric): "Well, it is a theory. It is a scientific theory only, and it has in recent years been challenged in the world of science—that is, not believed in the scientific community to be as infallible as it once was." Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts do not go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's, but apples did not suspend themselves in mid-air, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from apelike ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other, yet to be discovered. Moreover, "fact" does not mean "absolute certainty." The final proofs of logic and mathematics flow deductively from stated premises and achieve certainty only because they are not about the empirical world. Evolutionists make no claim for perpetual truth, though creationists often do (and then attack us for a style of argument that they themselves favor). In science, "fact" can only mean "confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent." I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms." -
I couldnt be a defense attorney, but before you go blasting Cochran he was only doing his job. A lot of people sound pissed at him, but the ones you should be pissed at are the DA's. They f-ed up, they didnt do their job. Hell I'm glad there are lawyers like him around. Heaven forbid anyone of us get wrongly accused. Who would you want standing by your side? An attorney who's going to do a piss job of defending you or someone who will give you 110+%. Google Cochran. He was an LA country DA from 1978-1982 and helped set up a Domestic Abuse Board in LA.

Yeah it's so much damn fun. The Perris tunnel helped me out a lot through my AFF. Been back twice since I got my 'A'. At the begining of the tunnel sessions I get nervous and tense up, afterwards I'm fine. Does this happen to anyone else?

Man I wish I could wear mine while jumping. I too have really sensative eyes to light, but contacts make it almost impossible for me to wear shades while jumping.
-
Thanks. I get it now, they dont have that forward drive modern ones have. Last year I saw someone jump a round at Snore, I was on the plane so I just saw the H&P.
-
I got a sweet deal around jump 40 on my container and reserve, both used. From jump 40-100 I rented mains. I jumped spectre 170, saffire2 169 and sab2 170. For me that was the perfect situation since I got to try each one out. In the end I got a sab2 170 used from PD. I have no desire to downsize and see myself putting hundreds of jumps on this canopy so most likely I will get a new container within the next year.

Why is that? Just curious.
