MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR GUS WING
Bodyflight.Net replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
(coming to you live from the RV park at the DZ) The Memorial Service was beautiful. Just before Jumpers Away, there was a RAINBOW, not the regular kind, but on a tiny little cloud in the sky.. it was soooo awesome, we all knew Gus was there. Two planes went up, otter(?) & porter and dropped the formation. Bob Hallet released Gus's ashes... it was STUNNING. His ashes created a cloud in the sky that seemed to stay forever. Mark added glitter to the pack so it shined & sparkled. I tried to take pictures, we'll see if they turned out. After everyone landed, we had a small ceremony around the pea pit and it was touching. Gus's family said some things, friends shared.. we cried. Judging by the video I would say there was no less than 250 people standing around the pea pit... Flocks of birds flew across the runways as if to fly in a symbolic formation, also saying so long to gus! The culmination of the evening was just after dark when there was an impromptu Rocket Launch that no one seemed to be expecting. So there we are, standing in front of the packing hanger and up out of nowhere we get to watch the rocket take off into space and as flew up into the sky, seperated from inital boosters and then fired it's final ignition sequence, it was as if it let off a big white firework as it punched out of the atmosphere. We all cheered. It took us 12 hours to get here, and we have to turn right back around in the morning and drive home, but it was SO worth it... Updating you FROM DeLand... Post your EARLY skydiving pics!
Bodyflight.Net replied to WrongWay's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok... first jump.. level 1 AFF.. Don Krouger[Main] & Scott Miller[Reserve] - Titusville.. photos by my hubby with a little Kodak disposable... Then jump #23... borrowed some goggles/glasses from Joao.. bad idea.. couldn't see a thing on my belly.. so I made my first sit fly attempts... LOOKS FREAKISHLY like my arm is broken!! what did I learn? Well.. what with the goggles & the obviously loose bridle in the pic... I immediately bought my own helmet, goggles & rig.. The words of an aff inst. friend rung SO loud in my head that day!!! "The sky ain't no F$%^in Wind Tunnel.. you can just get out and fix your gear and then go back to flying! You better make sure your SH$%T FITS!" Well Niko... fortunately, I'm a pretty good little body pilot but you were right.. I didn't think first. Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Tunnels, Dawn Suiter -
I found Stephen Hudak to be warm & friendly, although he did misquote me on the "always with a camera in hand" thing.. but there are worse things to misquote, FOR SURE! He listened well, seemed to share the loss in a way of his own, also seemed interested in making his own skydive and I told him that Gus would've encouraged that! It was good to add to the common sentiment.. it's seems awfully hard to say something bad about someone who was loved so much by so many. I did turn down subsequent requests from NBC etc... it was getting out of hand here too.. but still glad I participated in what little way I could. Don't be afraid.. be guarded, be careful.. but don't live in fear of ANYONE. Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Tunnels Dawn Suiter

His story & memories are also unfolding at www.guswing.com

Contributions are rolling in slowly. Let us celebrate Gus's life. www.guswing.com a recent addition from one of Gus's college friends is particulary touching... EDIT: We added a song to the page now... appropriate, and crying, is probably inevitable. I hope it works, though, I never add audio online!

Especially since they were such good friends for so long. Gus & I were working on his website, so now I guess I own www.GusWing.com I just got home from the tunnel and have started working on a memorial which I will begin posting tonight. If you would like to contribute, please email me support@bodyflight.net and I will include your thoughts, messages, photos, videos, WHATEVER you would like to contribute. On a personal note, Gus was one of the reasons I still skydive.. he was always concerned with safety, I am in as much shock and horrer as anyone else. He is family, always will be, that will never change.

Well?? Is anyone on-site? I've seen bits via the cam, but what's the scoop? We need live reports!! For those who don't know, the Challenge started yesterday and ends tomorrow night in a finals round and is at SkyVenture Perris! Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Tunnels, Dawn Suiter

Every time I try to view a friends photo gallery, I get redirected to http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi when that happens, I can only see the last few uploaded pics and nothing else.. I search and get nothing.. I try to reload the direct link to their gallery and sometimes it loads the first page, but then when I click on a picture it redirects me to that darn main page again with only a couple of pics on it... don't even know what to try really..? any advice? I get the same kinda error when I try to post an event to the calendar.. it just redirects me to my account page.. maybe, I have a poltergiest!!! ~~Edit: tried Firefox and it seems to be running smoothly! Had to add a couple of hours this last weekend! Paige & NeedtoJump came up and we had some fun playing around! Paige has a photo gallery with all the cool pics.. will add the link if I can find it!! -
Appalachian Amusement Center is only an hour away from Flyaway! You could've tried it out!

We are still encouraging a re-build.. but it's not our decision, obviously. Even blown it's still worth at least 250K. As soon as I have a price it'll be posted with the sale information.
-
Without getting technical the motor is blown It's happened to nearly EVERY PORTABLE that has ever been built.. for one reason or another
-
Started yesterday!!! Man! If I don't come up with some F$%^n expenses, I'm in trouble!! Going through my vehicle log now, reminscing about the WFFC.. who would've ever thought SO MUCH FUN COULD BE TAX DEDUCTIBLE!!!!
-
land contracts are closing now.. so not too long! It's bought & ready to begin, so.. no other delays in the forseeable future!!
-
How cool... I'm guessing it's not a reality yet since they are using photos of Flyaway in Las Vegas for their display! I just hate when they do that.. as if NO ONE will notice, or as if Flyaway won't mind! I have a picture here, somewhere in my archives. of that tunnel under construction, without the glass pyramid on top and still in development, from back in 2001.. I still can't believe they aren't done yet!! But good to know they apparently haven't given up! Thanks!
-
Hi Heidi! I would say so, since the L-1 Houston hasn't even begun construction yet!!!!! BUT, I know you MEANT ADREN-L-N, which is owned by the same folks. UNFORTUNATELY, ADREN-L-N is down for the count folks. It's coming off the active wind tunnel list and moving over to For Sale. This tunnel is no longer operational.

Agreed.. it is the Human Factor that makes it dangerous. I don't believe tunnels are more dangerous than freefall.. I really WAS hoping that the guy who said it would tell me his thoughts.. it's important to understand all perspectives, wether I agree or not!!
