Anyone with enough money... which is good and bad.. but the very reason we do what we do for a living. It's our goal to make sure that everyone has the same access to safety information no matter what type of tunnel you purchase or build. Safety & Training is our main mission, as we would like to see this industry grow & flourish safely! Maintenance, depends again on what you build. Big time maintenance & cost on anything with a deisel motor.. electric is CERTAINLY better for that and are what the nicer tunnels have behind them, they are designed to run and run with little maintenance. next question...

So I guess we're the lucky two??? What the heck! Didn't anyone else fly in MAY OR JUNE so far? Geez people.. your slackin!! (not you lovely paige.. I just didn't want to post back to myself) Think Pink! Dawn Suiter PMTS #3

I don't know WHAT you are talking about! I'm more of a powder blue.. like the sky I fly in

how much does one VWT cost? portable or propeller driven: $150,000.00 USD - $400,000.00 USD stationary & top quality: $2.5 million and up (including construction) how about shipping to asian country? most units can fit standard cargo containers.. check with your port of call for information.. you'll likely pay the cost to get the tunnel from it's current location to the nearest port here in the US. Cost varies with weight & container size.. no way to estimate without knowing which tunnel you want. how many weeks or months does this thing be completely done and fully operational? a used portable could be operational in a couple of weeks.. a stationary top quality tunnel will take 7 months to 2 years, as would building your own onsite.. again.. depending on the design you choose. how about RETURN OF INVESTMENT in 2 years? this obviously depends on how much you spend. Do that math yourself.. there are only so many hours in a day to operate.. average flights are 2 - 5 minutes long ranging in price from $20 - $75.. does it really generate revenue?YES.. but depending on what you spend, it may take a while to see a major profit. On a good AVERAGE usage.. we have figured that you could make your $5 million dollar investment back within 3-4 years.. using a seasonal location with only part time tourism as a model. The $5 million also included operating costs for the first year. etc.. etc... etc... please....you'll have to be more specific I have tons of information.. but don't know what more you may be looking for. We also have spreadsheet models..etc.. available without a non disclosure agreement and so forth. Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Air, Dawn Suiter PMTS #3

I couldn't begin to imagine..
-
yes.. I would say most instructors do "count" the time spent standing in the air & coaching.. it's not quite the same in my opinion.. but it does require some skill to stand there.. so.. draw your own conclusions.. but I, like you, am proud to say every one of my minutes has been spent flying ME!!
-
new thread started with a link to the previous one..

Ok.. let's see those numbers.. we missed the May count..so these should be good!!! If you don't remember where you were last time.. I fly a few times a month.. mostly once or twice a week but not always.. thing about me is.. USUALLY I'm flying for an hour or two each time... lately though.. I've been slammed with work & students when I'm there so I've only gotten to fly like 15 & 30 minutes when I go..! it MUST be time for a Monthly Tunnel Time thread.. we missed one last month didn't we???

Why do you fly in Vertical Wind Tunnels?
Bodyflight.Net replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in Wind Tunnels
I've been thinking about this analogy since you posted it.. it's just eating away at me so to speak... don't you think that the astronauts simulator does MORE than just give them a bumpy ride to space as a simulation? Not that I've been in one.. but I'm guessing there is MORE to the simulation than just sitting there.. switches, gauges, video display.. scenarios to work through.. etc.. that hardly seems comparable to us practicing only 1 aspect of skydiving in the tunnel. The only mission I'm preparing for is my next flight or PMTS induction! -
Yes.. but as you may have noticed we pretty much talk here about how VWTS relate to Skydiving It's important to remember on here.. for me at least.. that I am mostly exchanging words with folks who tunnel fly to become better skydivers... most don't even think of the tunnel as it's own sport.. (as was illustrated beautifully in a recent poll. "Why do you fly in VWTs") Ya know I love ya.. but I don't think of you as a student either.. If I did.. that would mean that you can't yet fly unassisted.. and that is NOT the case!
-
I happen to agree with this statement.. This IS a skydiving website.. the term Student would refer to an AFF student.. or even a Coaching student.. shouldn't be too confusing. I don't think of myself as a student in the tunnel..even though I am always learning or trying to learn. and I've flown with & seen people who think of themselves as students.. but who still didn't listen to a thing the instructor/coach had to say! I guess I qualify more as an "apprentice" at this point in my flying career...
-
can't argue with that logic now can I? I'm just glad it's not like that everywhere...and I guess then this turned out to be a fairly imformative thread..
-
Right on!!! and yes, I'm sure there will be a swarm.. I'm thinking for us.. we'd give each person about 30 minutes.. and the list would be generated by recommendation and previous world record attempts, etc.. The owner is considering an invitation competition with judges and a few thousand dollar prize.. but I'm pushing for the free freefly event instead... and it should cost about the same but allow more folks to enjoy it.. more like everyone's a winner! Good to see you wanna share the love!

sounds like it.. I didn't bother to look up the Euro conversion.. I have a day trader client he said the EURO is going down and the minister of finances or whatever is gonna be taxing non residents or something like that.. so anyway.. I always wonder how that conversion thing works.. but sounds like it's changing.. anyway.. yes trial offers are great! I just got the owner at AAC to give away 30 minutes of air time for a fundraiser nearby and I'm working with him on an invitation only free freefly event.. a couple of weekends where it's totally free by invitation only. The first X number of people to respond and confirm get their time totally free.. two full 8 hour days of it! think that might gain a little interest?? and have you considered doing anything like that?
-
amen to that sista'!!! not that I wouldn't like to have our own 16 footer to play with.. the operating costs.. well, I just can't get my head around them!
-
where at? Edited to add: Sorry.. I clicked your profile.. I assume you mean at SVO
