I know we may be a bit far north but I'll offer anyway. Spare bedroom for 1 or 2 (3 if your family) in the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains of E. Tennessee near Gatlinburg! We accept pets and kids because we love them, we have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a 10 y/o. We also have 2 wind tunnels within an hour of our house to play at and one p/t DZ. Can't offer work but can look after and feed someone or a small family for a little while. Oh.. btw, we smoke.

this is SUCH a relief.. give her our love Daniel...

BEST OF LUCK and have many safe flights..

I worry about Tammy & her family still... being 'in a shelter' is apparently not that much better if I believe the MSNBC... please someone let us know when she is truly safe again

I'm very happy with my fords as well.. the only other type I would consider is a subaru.. Fords are predictable.. in my experience an alternater around 110K, newer ones with a tranny repair around 150k depending on how you drive it.. and I love the horsepower.. couldn't live without it in such a sturdy vehicle, and to drive to 100K without a concern is worth the price to me! The motor should last to 300K if you take care of it.. what more could anyone want? I think if I owned a subaru I wouldn't worry about any repairs until over 150k.. that isn't worth the extra price for me yet.. but here in the mtns, 4 wheel drive would be nice, it will be the next on my list..

I think it's in this thread.. the plane was in Atlanta getting new or maybe it was bigger motors.. and the dz faired well I think with only damage to a roof???? not totally sure...

The waiting is over! - The worlds largest tunnel is flying
Bodyflight.Net replied to Paulipod's topic in Wind Tunnels
Hi Badger, I only 'sky fly' a few times a year.. just for the novelty of it really.. it's cool to stretch out in the sky but other than that.. it's like going to a carnival or 6 flags for me.. just a weekend vacation, so it's different for me.. but I never notice using a different body position.. but I fly all orientations so I don't train for anything in particular. At AAC, I don't wear a huge jumpsuit, neither do my friends, mine for instance is a DaKine Rags freefly suit and is so tight I can only wear a thin layer underneath, my flight buddy Rox wears a skin tight tony suit RW suit.. we fly at 90-110 mph depending on what we want to do.. (photo is at 105mph) I NEVER need more than 120mph although I guess I'll have to have some training time at 135+ so that when I head over to SVP in a month, I can ACTUALLY do it! -
thanks again for helping us all keep track

The waiting is over! - The worlds largest tunnel is flying
Bodyflight.Net replied to Paulipod's topic in Wind Tunnels
yes.. let's start an exchange program, sounds like fun.. and then John can teach your guys how to fly in high speed air.. ok, ok, I get your point, but if they can't dive it must be one of two things.. they can't fly like that in there yet or your air is too fast to fly in... I can't figure out why everyone want's such fast air?? It allows for more freedom to fly at lower speeds.. why is that a bad thing? And I can't fly with my friends at high speeds unless they wear weights and that sux.. it's just not something we prefer, but why does everyone else? It's not necessarily any EASIER to fly at high speeds, it's just different. Added: ok wait.. I forgot again.. everyone is attempting to simulate freefall.. THATs why they like the high speed air.. in that case I understand I guess. -
Awesome!!! Rousing round of applause

I've been poor.. really poor.. funny that when I was, I lived in the SAME place as this tragedy.. Jefferson Parish was the worst memories ever. I survived the 94 Northridge earthquake by living ON the epicenter.. there was no help for DAYS.. we cleaned up, helped eachother, fed eachother. I don't understand why people arent DOING anything.. we had no food, no water, no help for over a week.. the FEMA assistance was a joke, but we all made it depending on eachother... and our earthquake & survival kits. We didn't have power for more than a week, we had NOTHING but debris, bodies & injured..and those damn gas valves beeping (hearing those on the TV brought back memories) I see people sitting around complaining in the streets.. I see no one picking up debris, cleaning up their neighborhood.. I see lotsa people waiting for someone else to take care of them.. this to me is a bigger problem.. people unwilling to help themselves... if the masses of people who COULD'VE helped themselves DID,,there would be enough assistance for those who were TRULY disabled and unable. a 6 hour slow walk would've put them outta harms way.. they should've started sooner and pops.. I wanted to add: BICYCLE... they could've gotten outta harms way on a slow bike trek and even carried goods with them.

The waiting is over! - The worlds largest tunnel is flying

Modified: BFB - World's Largest Diameter & Most Horsepower Tunnel (houston has a 4k+hp motor on it's way) SVA - America's Largest Diameter Tunnel & World's Largest on a DZ AAC - World's Tallest & ONLY Dual VWT and Best View SVC - World's Most aesthetically pleasing SkyVenture!!! (disclaimer: these are my opinions only based on what I know and have seen) all I can say for sure, is the tunnel world is alot brighter these days.. when I got started all we had were noisy, choppy, hot & oily portable tunnels with only 8-10' X 30' feet to fly in!!! -

AAC's column extends over 100 feet from the nozzle.... I do believe that is a record. (ANDY how high do you think you fly in BFAG???) They aren't using the horizontal section much at this point, but again, they haven't even had a grand opening yet, so there is much to do before they consider themselves 'complete and finished' and available. The most important part of that feature is that they can both be used simultaneously without affecting eachother. When John & Phil spent their year in Switzerland, they certainly pushed the higher limits, but no one calculated how TALL that was then.. when I compare height of tunnels, I consider that until it diminishes from it's original diameter.. how do you calculate height on a tunnel without a roof? Certainly when an L1 is contained in it's first skyscraper, the entier 100ft + column will be used.. but for now, that is just a drawing. Here's a fun test... have a freeflyer dive from the top of the column as fast as he can.. John can get a 5 second delay in a head down dive from the top of the column.. that count begins when he turns completely vertical and begins the dive.. one one thousand, two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand, five one thousand and he reaches the net.. Added: I also think SVC should win the title " Best Looking SkyVenture in the world" -
I'm sorry, did I miss the news story from when he GOT BACK from vacation?

[not personal, just clicked the last entry to reply to] I always found it strange that so many people have been helped by Dr. Phil and his truths.. I have rarely heard him say something I didn't agree with, although we differ GREATLY on the drug war, he pretty much tells people how it is. Thing is.. I HIGHLY doubt he EVER says anything people don't already know.. but people are so self destructive that apparently it NEEDS to be said aloud. I think Dr. P is a fabulous dose of reality on TV and when I want to feel better about myself, I watch his show.. all those SAD people who can't figure out how to stop RUINING their own lives.. I'm sorry but it makes me feel like a master of my own destiny.. and I am. How's that workin' for me? Fabulously!!! :)

BFB - World's Largest Diameter Tunnel SVA - America's Largest Diameter Tunnel AAC - World's Tallest & ONLY Dual VWT (Horizontal & Vertical) now that we have that straight added: that I'm aware of.. there are no plans for anyone to go bigger than any of those listed... these 3 might retain their titles for a LONG time to come.. -
THAT'S what I needed! You'll be able to count in at LEAST 20 more registrations that I know of if you do that..

Vamp, You are way too humble.. you did quite well for a first time flyer!!! 45 minutes in one day is alot but it's a long way to come and spreading it out throughout the day like you did is a great way to pack alot in. Sometimes a little muscle fatigue can be good in the beginning.. it helps you to not 'fight' so much You were awesome & I am now proud to call you a Tunnel Sister for life!!! Your Tunnel Sister induction photos are featured here in our PMTS thread http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1811342#1811342 Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Air, Dawn Suiter

Anyone bought/installed a swimming pool?
Bodyflight.Net replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in The Bonfire
Well... I wonder how much electricity they use.. any idea how I can figure that out? Would a pump label/manufacturer tell me how much it costs to run it like water heaters do? it doesn't sound easy.. that's for sure... and wow, the cost to keep up your pool is more than my mortgage.. OBVIOUSLY if I'm going to have a swimming pool I'm going to have to change the way I think about the costs!!!!!! -

Bodyflight.Net replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in The Bonfire
Well.. I still can't spend close to the same on a pool as I did the house that sits next to it.. if I were going to spend 20k bucks, I'd build a new home.. a 1500sf cordwood home doesn't even cost that much to build even if I buy the timbers cut, peeled & split from the sawmill!! so.. tell me then about maintenance costs.. what's involved... some chemicals and more electricity... no??? -
