  1. This started with the belief that Wind Tunnels are MORE dangerous than freefall... I still don't see it..unless this is again a statement about SkyVenture being more dangerous than freefall and not TUNNELS, speaking in General.. ( I have previously been mistaken believing that the discussion was about Tunnels, when I was quickly corrected that they ONLY meant SkyVentures) since MOST do not have the wall to wall, exits and stiff wire net that it (SV) does. And plenty of indoor, recirculating and outdoor tunnels do not have those configurations, it's not just the outdoor ones.
  2. How do you mean technically...? Technically, in Freefall, YOU are travelling at a high rate of speed, in the tunnel, the air is traveling not you. When I bump into someone in the tunnnel its soft slow & easy, in the sky it's like running into a brick wall doing 120! the latter is much more dangerous in my opinion.
  3. In your opinion, how is it more dangerous. If you don't mind my asking.. Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Air, Dawn Suiter
  4. Cool link! Thanks! Naturally I went straight for construction progress on VWTs, but I see that the images are a bit out of date.. but STILL, VERY COOL TO SEE! This is better than TerraServer! http://maps.google.com/maps?q=eloy,az&ll=32.806345,-111.578307&spn=0.005107,0.007703&t=k&hl=en edited: awww.. that's no fun.. they BLURRED OUT disney world!
  5. OOOH, how cute! I just got a puppy and I'm looking forward to our many excursions together in the outdoors! I've never had a 'real' dog before, always 'show' dogs and so I'm REALLY looking forward to getting this girl dirty!!!
  6. Awesome list, just what I would've posted, with two additions: A $2 or less emergency blanket that folds up to smaller than a wallet size And I would bring a filet knife... for dinner & PROTECTION! ok 3 things.. a cell phone with an extra battery. if your not going for long (a day or two), those Brush-Ups or similar items cut down on water & tooth care supplies, for less weight & bulk! Have fun!!! Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Tunnels, Dawn Suiter
  7. I actually don't.. specially the Orlando tunnel ones because it's USUALLY unsafe for me to contribute. And there are far more "currently" qualified folks to speak up on behalf of SV, so I missed it I guess. That sux! I was at the condo that night with my daughter who had just gotten BIT by one of those 16 folks dog.. we all crammed into a little condo like 10 of us! Hilarious! But still fun, and I missed that round! Oddly enough the SAME dog last weekend nearly took her hand off at the tunnel! Yeah, I hope I never see that pooch again!!!!! Well hope you had fun.. I'll have to go find that thread and see what happened I guess!!
  8. You should've told me!! You a half hour away and didn't say a thing! Hmph! I see how you are!!!! Ok, my update: 5 more hours at Appalachian Amusement Center in North Carolina!!! With another hour coming on Saturday night (Boogie Nights) OMG.. three days ago I did 2 hours.. now don't laugh, but I was trying to look like a RW'er. So, for 2 hours I worked on the Mantis position.. HOLY CRAP THAT IS HARD!!!!! I mean, way too much work!!! I've never been so sore in my LIFE!!! And when I say 2 hours, I mean STRAIGHT THROUGH, we don't stop or take breaks.. not flying when the air is passing by is a SIN in my world!!! Anyway, I'll stick to my tunnelrat body position, but I just wanted to say I have new respect for the extra work you guys do to fly in the mantis position! Whew!!!
  9. I've seen them shave.. I guess there were ALOT of supplies scattered everywhere from the wreck, like the LOT of reading glasses they had to choose from... but yeah, the weight thing gets me.. he outta be slimmin down SOME!!!
  10. I think John Locke's story is captivating!!! In fact I think if it weren't for him, I wouldn't watch the show, the rest is so soapopera-ish!!! and honestly for some reason I find Sahid (spelling) extremely interesting too, his references to time spent in the Iraqi army are just too real!!! And can someone tell me, how LONG have they been LOST now and how come the fat guy isn't getting skinnier???!!!!???!!!! Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Tunnels, Dawn Suiter
  11. immunoglobulin, *RhoGam* and I had to have one on EACH pregnancy including the first! A- here Carry my Rh- card in my wallet!
  12. Hi Lady! Why don't you do the honors of starting a new Tunnel flying profile thread for April! and everyone can update in there!! what do ya think?? I was gonna do it, but since you started, why not you first?!
  13. Hi Mark, I make it my job to know this stuff, and unfortunately I don't have any good news for you, to the best of my knowledge... There WERE VWTS in Canada a couple of portables and a stationary, there are a couple trying to get it together and operate, near BC, but nothing as of yet. There is one that is OFF THE RADAR right now, and I have a sneaking suspician it is in Canada, but can't tell you where cuz, well, I don't know!
  14. Hey you two! Stop with all the 'props', I can't stop blushing!!!! DID YOU FLY NAKED??!?!??!!!??!!!???!!! Anyway, I don't know what's up with the rumors you guys heard.. Vegas has always been pretty good, it's alot faster & wider than the PF version, so I'm glad you guys got some fun time in (especially when it's cool). Ya know, that's why we started the Boogie Nights thing cuz when we fly with our tunnel rat friends, it's like so relaxed and fun and everyone shares their time and NO ONE is counting minutes!!! We don't even use a clock!!! We're so used to the type of treatment your talkin about that we can't understand why anyone would have it any other way! Enjoying the non-competitive side of flying is like a whole other school of thought!!! Did you meet Brett or Tara?! They were here for a tunnel boogie a couple of weeks ago I asked them to keep an eye out for ya too! Keith Fields is a TOP NOTCH manager with a REAL love for bodyflying! He understands it's not about simulating freefall, it's about loving flying! Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Tunnels, Dawn Suiter
  15. poor squeak! Welcome anyway! Don't let it get you down, we ALL HAD TO START somewhere!
  16. Keith and I go WAY back! Pink Suits, Blue Skies & Fast Air Dawn Suiter
  17. Hi Joe, You have heard correctly, Flyaway does not have enough air to simulate freefall, however, it's alot of fun and a great place to visit when your on vacation!!! Additionally, you'll find their flight time SLIGHTLY cheaper (a few bucks) than time at the L1 in N.C. Cons of flyaway are obviously poor freefall simulation, you can't wear your own gear, it's very hot inside the tunnel, it's very loud inside the tunnel and most of the instructors are not skydivers. Pros to L1, are obviously the outside enviroment, clean & solid high speed air, any suit you have will work wonderfully, or there are a selection of Tony & Michigan suits available for use. The air is always cool, and solid. Your coach at L1 will have several hundred skydives and decades experience teaching in VWTs across the world. It's a relaxed, nearly private environment and the surrounding area is picture perfect! Fly in the sky!! oh, and NO EARPLUGS ARE REQUIRED... ( you can hear a nearby weed eater over the tunnel sound!!!!) Cons to L1? Little more expensive than flyaway, there are only a few hotels nearby and very little else to do beside enjoy nature & Fly (but I'm not complaining), You have to buy a minimum of 15 minutes, no walk-ins, flights are by reservation only, so you have to plan ahead. I say go to L1, of course, it's the best choice if your going to be in the area! Pink Suits, Blue Skies, & Fast Air, Dawn Suiter
  18. WELCOME MATT (see ya Wed.) Thanks for sharing!! WELCOME SEAN! I just wanna introduce Sean (shoon) to the rest of you as one of the MOST ADDICTED of ALL TUNNEL JUNKIES.. after all, after he got hooked, he bought, NOT 1, BUT 2, count them 2 VERTICAL WIND TUNNELS!!! (soothing voice) It's OK Sean, no one is here to pass judgement.
  19. Ok, I'll field this one, since no one else is biting.. in the US, SkyVenture EXCLUDED, it would be a good idea to become a regular visitor at the tunnel you would like to work at, and this will often lead to a job. Additionally, and SkyVenture would fit this category, be on the lookout for advertised Jobs which popup from time to time in Parachutist, Skydiving & on their websites. It's not a BAD idea to become a SkyVenture regular, I just don't think it will increase your odds of getting a job that isn't advertised. We keep a list of instructors looking for work and send them wherever is needed when work is available but most of our list is comprised of folks willing to travel.. how do we find them..? at a wind tunnel of course and by recommendation! The rest of the time, they find us. It's a limited industry for now, patience is key and improving your skills in the meantime for a future job is always a good idea, no matter what industry it is. And it keeps you plugged in, which is of course the most important!
  20. WELCOME CHRIS, WELCOME FISH WELCOME GORDY!!! Keep on flyin!!!
  21. Um... Hi Steve.. Anger Management is down the hall.....
  22. I can't read most of the site, and we've not heard anything before, but with projecting completion in the next couple of months one would hope they've been building it for a while now... but HEY, IF I HAD A DIME FOR EVERY WIND TUNNEL WHOS OWNERS/MANUFACTURER PREDICTED IT WOULD BE OPEN MONTHS BEFORE IT ACTUALLY DID....I'D BE A RICH RICH RICH WOMAN TODAY! ok.. maybe a dollar! Oh btw.. nice to see you around here~!
  23. OH.. ok.. well, yes there have been a couple of times that say, skysurfers used it and anchored on the walls.. there's been lotsa experiments over the years.. but I WOULD NEVER CONDONE being attached to a free rope (not anchored on two ends) during a tunnel flight... too risky IMO BUT the guys now, they are crazy, they are often clipping crap to the net and playing with it.. I just fly around them and mind my own biz
