  1. You seem to keep forgetting that maybe he had bad intel...And therfore is not a liar....But you would rather think he was criminal than just fed bad info. Also Saddam never complied. All he ever had to do was show where/how he got rid of them. He never did. And we knew he had them...And he admitted to having them...Hell he used them...so where did they go? Last time the only thing I knew that just dissapeared was money. Bad intel or intentionally ignored intel going through all administrations back to FDR.? Colon Powell said we had pictures of 600 sites where we were sure WMDs were stored. Last I heard 400 had been checked (months ago) and no weapons found. There was one report early on about drums suspected to contain Sarin gas but they needed further testing. Never heard about them again. Two Al Samud missles were found on a trailer parked in the woods. Missles of the same type that were being actively destroyed. Sounds to me like a truck driver decided not being in that truck with an invasion going on was a good idea. Again we have an issue of which president did the right thing. The intelligence gatherers don't change with the administration, only the administrations interpretation of the intel does I don't see how you can say one president was stupid and ignored good intel and another was stupid and paid attention to bad intel. The last time Saddam used serious weapons of mass destruction was when the US government supplied them or the technology to him in the 80's. The plans used to invade Iraq were drawn up by Dick and Rummy during the GHWB administration and dusted off as soon as 9/11 happened. I don't know why I let myself get sucked in to these. 2. I did my aff on a 230 also, at about .95:1 and then my coaching jumps on the 210 I am still jumping. The only real difference for me has been landings. I need a head wind to do a standup. The first time I flew the increased responsiveness surprised me. Next trip to the DZ will be nothing but H&P to work on the landings. "Truth is tough. 3. Man I just lived that story with you. Great telling of it and glad to hear things went so well. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
  4. I have 28 jumps, 24 in 2003, 4 25 years ago. I got all of these jumps before joining this site. At times I feel the same way you do right now but as a 45 year old father of three and grandfather of one with another on the way I am not in to doing stupid things. If you read this site carefully and especially the incidents forum you will see that human error is usually involved in death and dismemberment. Generally the error of the injured. Now the level of error varies from flat out stupid like, flew straight in to a powerline with no attempt to avoid, to bad luck like, made the wrong decision in a split second in a really strange situation and got hurt/killed. So is it possible you will see someone seriously injured or killed? Yes, but that happens in softball too. If the thought of this will cause you to 1) not enjoy the sport or 2) dwell on it until you screw up, then you shouldn't do it. If the reality of the danger of the sport sinks in and makes you triple check everything and work real hard to be the best skydiver you can be then welcome. "Truth is tough. 5. I moved around a lot so I suppose I could have missed it but I don't recall loosing very many people to any of these causes. There were not bunches of kids running around with patches or glass eyes either. Have we made the world a safer place as far as childhood accidents are concerned, yes as we should. But the paranoia level raised in many people and especially children is apalling. For cryin' out loud where are we going to get more skydivers from if this trend continues? "Truth is tough. 6. I actually did walk a mile to school in a Chicago blizzard once. Only to find out school was closed and had to walk back. They had not announced our school as closed on TV by the time I had to leave so Mom sent me out. About five minutes later they announced it but it was too late to stop me then. "Truth is tough. 7. At my home DZ I was usually able to get a jump in here and there with a coach for fun to help break the boredom. Ask around you will probably find one who will jump with you. If worst comes to worst offer to pay the jump ticket. How weird is this talking about being bored jumping out of a plane. edit to fix a typo. "Truth is tough. 8. If this should be in General Skydiving Discussions please move it but I think this is the right place. AFF instructors what percentage of your students go through the progression without repeating a step? Most AFF people we hear from here are having problems but I think that is skewed because those that aren't are also not looking for advice. Also do you think that those who go straight through make better skydivers in the long run or does a certain amount of over confidence happen? Thanks "Truth is tough. 9. Well I did serve, both active and reserve with a stint in the middle as a dependent to my wife. As a member of the military it is your job to go do what the people above you tell you to do. You are not paid to decide if it is right or wrong and the only way you can disobey and not be in serious shit is if the order it self is illegal. i.e. "Go rob that liquor store soldier." or "Rape all of the women in town." I disagreed with Gulf War I and when it was over I got out of the reserves. I was fortunate not to have been sent to the gulf but would have gone had I been because I committed to serve my country. Bush and company botched Afghanistan but at least I understood and could support why we went in. The invasion of Iraq was about revenge for Daddy and an effort to insure some sort of oil supply. Lining corporate pockets is just a nice plus. As to Ron's statement about no blowjobs from interns, well you are right, just hundreds of dead Americans and thousands of dead Iraqis. "Truth is tough. 10. It was pointed out to me that this might be misinterpreted and for some reason I don't have an edit button on this so I will rephrase here. Never knew her but based on what I have read I don't need to in order to hope that I get to see her one day on the other side. "Truth is tough. 13. In the past we bitched about products from Japan then Taiwan and Korea, now the Caribbean, China, India, you name it. Do I think it sucks, yes, but as long as we let Wal-Mart and other deep discounters drive the economy that is what is going to happen. I really have to laugh when I hear about how the Mexican economy is suffering because of NAFTA, which was supposed to be a big boost for them. Now many Mexican farmers can't compete with the subsidized American farm products. So we bitch when manufacturing jobs go south but we don't seem to care when our farms wipe out their farms. 14. Other than playing in the sky myself the best thing about being at the DZ is seeing the tandems come off the landing area. No one shows more joy than them. "Truth is tough. 18. As long as each coin flip is looked at independently that's right but if you look at them as a series it changes. At least I think that is what this is all about. 19. With Gateway and some of the other electronics manufacturers getting in to the digital camera market you can expect prices to drop pretty dramtically over the next few months. Gateway has a 5 megapixel camera for $299.00. Make sure you get good optical zoom, digital zoom is far less important. All it is really doing is making the pixels bigger. "Truth is tough.
