No you are not. That was my point, we Americans seem to like to change the rules as we go. Should we have shown SH in order to demonstrate we had him, yes. Should we have shown pictures of his dead sons? No, let respected Iraqi nationals see the bodies and pass the word. Should we have shown dead and captured Iraqi troops, no as we raised hell whenever they did the same to our troops. "Truth is tough. It is much easier to play if you make up the rules as you go along. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

My first four jumps, SL 1978 and 79, were out of a 182. All of those this year (so I took a short break ) have been Twin Bonanza, King Air and Otter. All were great but there is something a little more thrilling about standing on the wheel and hanging on to the strut. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

There are really two different things going on here. What happens if the bullet goes straight up and straight down. A quick Google search talks about the penny and it not being likely to kill, although a pointy object might be different. http://www.urbanlegends.com/science/penny_falling_impact.html (yes I know this says in a vaccuum). The other is if it comes down at an angle which JohnRich says pretty early on is a different matter. Even if the person fires the first shot straight up recoil is going to move their hand and additional shots are going to be at various angles. If you have ever seen coverage of this remember that these folks tend to be using automatics with one hand, not a stable shooting platform. "Truth is tough. My finances allow for one day, three jumps a month. I have 28 jumps and an A license. I'm never going to be a world class jumper on this schedule, hell I may never make it to a C license, but I have fun. The folks I jump with are aware of my schedule and are more than willing to take a little extra time with me once a month to make sure things are safe and fun for all. Is it worth the "risk?" Yes, right now it is all that keeps me sane. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

OK. Now through all of this media hype over the past month or so, the only thing I heard was that he fired a pistol near the Iraqi's head. I never heard anything about the beating. That changes things. The beatings are exactly why the shooting was a bad thing. One thing leads to another. Officer shoots, enlisted think beating is OK, sympathetic civilians might think lynching is just fine. This played out just about like I thought it would and while I am clearly opposed to what he did in the first place this is ending pretty much OK with me. "Truth is tough. Well we claimed they were back in July so unless you don't believe it they are. Oh yeah we showed pictures of that too. Love those double standards. "Truth is tough. All of y'all need to get lives. Hating any of these groups takes to much energy. At least Dagny has thought through her issues with NOW and admits she can't resolve them so it isn't even hate there, just being uncomfortable. Extremists on each end of the spectrum are what causes change to happen. Now do not start in that I support terrorism please. But without the NRA and the anti-gun folks there would be no change at all and some fine tuning is always needed. You can say that about any groups. ACLU versus left and right, NOW versus the Eagle Forum, the list goes on forever. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

The first couple are not really any fun because of just what you described. To many things to think about it. The fun starts soon, just relax. "Truth is tough. You need to head east. http://www.town-mall.net/entertainment/skydiving.html "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes -
Well said. Cliches like "The road to hell is paved with good intentions." come to mind when I think of what we are doing. "Truth is tough. I will not get sucked into this. I will not get sucked into this. I will not get sucked into this. I will not get sucked into this. "Truth is tough. Germany never liberated France, they invaded and we, eventually, went to their defense. Those French who chose to join the resistance were looked at as freedom fighters by us and terrorists by the Germans. It is all a matter of your perspective. "Truth is tough. Yes, it is. Over the Chocolate Mountains in '85. Is your avatar really you? Cool, just checking, there are a few people out there who tend ot exagerate themselves. I was but a lowly enlisted man in a TAC RECCI unit. Guess I didn't get the edit in fast enough. It's my grandson. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Well, 2 out of 3 are killing Americans; military and civilian. If we didn't invade Iraq they would not be killing us. BTW is the avatar really you? Mine is my grandson. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Yes it does. Lets change the scenario a little bit. A powerful European country called G invades its neighbor called F but many citizens of F object and form a resistance. As far as G is concerned they are terrorists but to many people living in F they are patriots. Now if G was our friend we would agree with them but if F is our friend we agree with them. Since Germany was run by Hitler we agree that the French resistance were "good guys" but since Iraq was run by Saddam we consider the equivalent as "bad guys." "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
-
So what side do you take? The side of the people who had a horrible leader who we helped prop up for years? Or the side that invaded a country that was of no real threat to them? While I think we botched Afghanistan I at least understood and could get behind it. Invading Iraq made no sense. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Reporting on Pearl's execution and airing the pictures are two very different things. Had the DHL gone down and people been killed showing it would be very different. However we did show pictures of dead Iraqi soldiers and prisoners while at the same time obejcting to their showing the same things of American soldiers. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

By your definition, UBL is a freedom fighter and Al Qaeda must be a charity organization. I personally don't consider them this but there are people out there who do see it that way. They see us as "the bad guys" who are trying to impose our views on them. Do I think the way they have dealt with it is a good thing? No, of course not but my point is that it is all in the eye of the beholder and the fact that some one was there to take pictures does not automatically make the photographer a "bad guy." "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Terrorist is in the eye of the beholder. One man's terrorist is anothers freedom fighter. I suspect loyalists during the American revolution looked on those who later became known as patriots as terrorists. "Truth is tough. Dude, I was just kidding about all that BSR crap. Have fun. Go big. When you feel like you can nail those landings, you have ZoneRat's personal blessing to jump your bare-footed ass off! So does your safety officer.

And this is why they lock you out after terminating you. I've been on both ends of this and it sucks either way. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes
