I wasn't disputing that it happened only your implication that it meant the plane wasn't sturdy in general. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

God you are beautiful, I mean politically of course

that statement would certainly mean something different for me if you weren't a leftist. thats wtf. What defensive? Your first post on this thread states you are a Libertarian, and I responded with my "political status." Left of center and leftist are, I think somewhat different. There are many libertarian points I think have merit and if I have no opinion on a particular office and a Libertarian is running I vote for them just to scare the entrenched parties. My statement about GWB and Perry are completely consistent with my opinions. They are not good people to be running anything more complicated than a lemonade stand. Now I could get behind a ticket consisting of Barbara and Laura Bush. The only thing I hold against them is the men they married. --- Fixed a typo. --- "Truth is tough. Clinton was personally morally bankrupt but, at least publically, his pollicies were intended to help the country and the world. Which is worse? screwing an intern or screwing the country? BTW personally I believe anyone who wants the job of president is automatically unqualfied. "Truth is tough. I propose that in all political threads we must state our political affiliation. I think it'll help weed out the biased and non-biased statements. BTW I'm libertarian. OK, so I am left of center and tend to vote Democrat. WTF does that have to do with weeding out bias? We are all biased, including you. Opinions are based on our biases. "Truth is tough. Here is some "tough love." Get out of the GD plane at altitude! This is a lot of fun and not really hard as long as you remember three things. Arch, relax and pull. Pull being the most important. Considering the numer of intelligent replies I see from you this seems out there. Please tell me you were on some sort of hallucinogen when you wrote this. Shit happens to any and every major company in existance. Some times it is someones fault and some times it is just shit happening. "Truth is tough. Here in lies the ultimate oxymoron. I don't care what party you have faith in but no "politician" is a good person, man or woman. A statesman (stateswoman) may be a good person but they are few and far between these days. In Texas I voted against GW for Governor and then watched his policies rape that state. Followed by Mr. Good Hair Rick Perry. "Truth is tough. OK so I am a low count newbie but I have seen our DZ safety officer jump barefoot and if I ever figure our how to stand up on a regular basis I will do it too. Lets face it if you plan on landing on the DZ and the grass/ground is comfortable why not? Yes shit happens but if that was your main concern then you shouldn't be skydiving. "Truth is tough. The student rigs we use at my drop zone, and I assume most student rigs, are adjustable from small to large so that they don't need to own as many rigs to cover all possible students. You should ask you instructor to double check the sizing if you rig is adjustable. Bent over a little bit sounds about right. Is it you landing that is beating you up or the opening? If it is the landing then work on your PLF and your stand up. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

If you are getting that beat up you need to look at how you are getting into your gear. For me it usually means that I don't have the leg straps tight enough or the student gear is sized to big. I sometimes forget to check that it is set to medium for me. I jump three times each time I go and get some minor bruises on my thighs and I have had a couple of hard openings - need to work on those packing skills some more. "Truth is tough. You have one more PITA AFF jump (AFF-3) and then the rest of the progression becomes fun. Hang in there man. I am also 45 and restarted this whole thing over the summer. The progression here is two training tandems and then AFF-2. After AFF-3 I was thinking, I am going to finish the training and then get my A-license just to finish something I started over 25 years ago. I figured I would probably quit after that. Now I live for the one day a month I get to go play in the sky. "Truth is tough. Those first two AFF jumps are the hardest ones, so many things to think about. The rest are a lot calmer. "Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at evening." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes

After reading other posts on flat turns I had already decided to make my next trip to the DZ nothing but hop and pops to practice canopy control and landings. My budget lets me get in three altitude jumps on rental gear a month which doesn't do much for my landings. This post came at just the right time and with the list of things to work on. No I won't be doing them at 50', this time anyway , but this will be a real learning day for me. newsstand "Truth is tough. Howdy! Questions for those who know...
newsstand replied to Modano's topic in Introductions and Greets
1) Originally (1978) couple of us guys thought it would be cool. Did four static line jumps and spent a lot of time hanging around waiting for the wind to drop. When I started again (this year) it was to give my 18 year old son a thrill and then I got some cash together and took AFF 2) She tried a tandem and was bored (no shit). She isn't crazy about the money I spend but she knows that going to the DZ once a month is keeping me sane right now. "Truth is tough. Not the experience I had at all. When I pulled out my original log book to have entries added to it it got a lot of respect. "Truth is tough. OK, I'm using Netscape 7.1 and I am logged in but whenver I select one of these links I get a big ugly graphic telling me I don't have access. Any (polite) suggestions? newsstand "Truth is tough. I'm in your range when it comes to total jumps and I fall like a rock. The one thing I have learned is to make the adjustments slowly. Don't go from arch to air hugging to arch. Bring it in slowly. Found some of the articles, clearly without your help. The following comes from http://afr.com/articles/2003/08/01/1059480545424.html 'Representative Porter Goss, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said the discovery pointed to how far Iraqi forces went to conceal their activities. The Florida Republican was briefed on the discovery during his recent trip to Iraq. "Our guys have found 30-something brand new aircraft buried in the sand to deny us access to them," Goss said. "These are craft we didn't know about." He said the planes were not considered weapons of mass destruction for which coalition troops have been searching for months, "but they are weapons (Iraq) tried to hide." ' One, as the senator says, these are not banned WMD's. Two, 30 year old aircraft are hardly "brand new." Three, many of the articles said that little or nothing was done to protect the aircraft before burial. Four, then you know that you would also have carried atropine and all the rest of the chemical gear during an exercise. Not much point in having the gas mask if you don't have the rest of the stuff. Five, I have no clue what your final quote is supposed to mean. Seems to me the only one telling stories is GWB. newsstand "Truth is tough. Do you recall not to long ago out forces finding an ENTIRE fighter wing buried in the sand? Hadn't heard that one, can you point me at some articles about it? During my time in the military, nearly 10 years between active and reserve, whenever we were in an exercise (i.e. practicing war) we always had our gas masks with us. You don't ever know what the other guy might do. And yes I think that they thought we would do anything. All the information the rank and file Iraqi soldier has comes from Saddam and he wasn't going to talk about how we would play fair. You may have answered this elsewhere but I missed it. Have you ever been in the military? newsstand "Truth is tough.
