  1. Yeah, that's a bad habit of Tony Scott's. Domino was the worst - I hated it. Mind you, that movie doesn't have Denzel Washington in it either - we had to make do with Keira Knightley and a pre-comeback Mickey Rourke.
  2. Congratulations! Funny story too. All that agonising about the diamond, and then you manage to cover it ink.
  3. Me too, because I'd never even heard of Black Friday. In fact I have work to finish off for Monday, so my whole weekend is looking pretty black right now.
  4. Never, and it's a really big deal to me. I've never understood how people take it so lightly - I guess it doesn't help that TV and movies treat infidelity as a bit of a joke. But I suppose I have unrealistic expectations. I'd guess there's been a third party involved in at least 50 percent of broken relationships.
  5. You're not using Docklands Telecom, are you? Sounds like their level of professionalism. If you're not using Docklands Telecom - don't. Ever.
  6. By the time I got here, this was eminently *SFW*. But I'd find it hard to believe nobody took the initiative to hit 'Save Picture As...'

    Point Break

A group of jumpers from my home DZ went to see Drop Zone at the cinema when it came out. I'm glad to say I wasn't among them, cos I heard afterwards that one of them - get this - wore his jumpsuit to the showing, and spent much of the movie telling everyone in earshot that he and his friends were skydivers, and knew what was what.
  8. I guess it was a bit of a surreal post.
  9. That's a great place for a webcam - really nice quality feed, too! But if tourists were to watch it for a few minutes they'd realise how cliched their behaviour is - it's almost as if the footage is on a loop
  10. I like some of his stuff. 'Sweet Caroline', that's a good one. Oh, and 'Cracklin' Rosie.'

    Point Break

Well, they have Shoot 'Em Up. God help them. People can say what they like about Point Break, Drop Zone, Cutaway, Terminal Velocity et al. At least they filmed real people doing real skydiving!
  12. John, you got the full version of that poem anywhere? Haven't read it for a while, and I really like it!
  13. Christ, I wouldn't do that in these post-shoe bomber times. It'll just look like spare ammunition! I pack at the last minute, always. I don't even look for my passport until the night before, and I seldom have any idea where that is. Admittedly, that has led to a last minute panic or two...
  14. Is American Guinness a poor imitation of English Guinness, which is itself a poor imitation of Irish Guinness?

    Point Break

Don't you dare mention The Bucket List in the same thread as Point Break . Point Break is a classic, great action movie with some fantastic(al) skydiving scenes. I think The Bucket List is a mehvie (and I think I just invented that word). And the skydiving in it, while equally nonsensical, isnt particularly exciting either.
  16. I guess the fact that the camera flyer got away from him so fast is testament to how effective the bags were!
  17. It often catches me out when people resurrect very old threads (which has been happening a lot lately!) - I think oh, so-and-so is posting again. Then I check the dates and realise, oh - no, they're not.
  18. And of course if you're only going to inflate the balloon once, you're still going to need power to winch it down to the passengers, or get the passengers up to it. Now here are a couple of (possibly stupid) questions: - If a helium balloon is perfectly sealed so that none of the gas can escape, will it maintain the same lifting power indefinitely? - If you were to design a tethered helium balloon so that it had just barely enough 'buoyancy' to lift the required number of passengers, would you save energy overall because it was easier to haul down for boarding - at the expense of a very long ascent time?
  19. Hard to tell by now whether it's the media who are to blame, or us as media consumers who lap up the rubbish they feed us!
  20. At least he got a two-minute briefing ahead of that two-minute freefall!
  21. How are you planning to fuel your burner?

"No, no, cut the blue wire."
  23. I can't believe this hasn't been quoted yet. I went all the way to the end of the thread to check.
  24. If I ever catch myself watching that kind of TV, it'll be one barrel for the TV and the second one for myself.
  25. Folded up newspaper on my left, and a handheld Dustbuster on my right. So if they're really teensy aliens I might be ok. I can alternately swat them and then vacuum up. But if they're Signs-type aliens, I guess I'd be better off with a glass of water and a baseball bat.
