  1. That's the way things are now. No matter the scale of the disaster, there's always someone who measures it in terms of potential YouTube hits! Oh, and regarding that blog - if our first instinct when riding in a stricken aircraft is to start texting people, are we finally acknowledging that cellphone 'flight mode' is unnecessary?
  2. Agreed. And not to take away from Benavidez at all, but many truly heroic actions are not military at all - which makes them even less likely to be widely reported or recognised.
  3. The Empire Strikes Back is considered by most (including me) to be the best of the original three films. And since none of the more recent films are a patch on the originals, that makes it the best one of all. I think The Phantom Menace is worst. Since then they started to improve again. But not enough.
  4. I don't do sig lines. But if I did, I'd steal this.
  5. I find the whole concept of internet 'competitions' completely cynical. After all, they're just vehicles for the sponsors to promote themselves, and the result is usually about how big an online community of voters you can mobilise (as evidenced by all the similar threads here) rather than the merit of your entry. Don't see the point, I guess.
  6. Regardless of any extra limitations applying to Pookie, is it true that no US dropzones mandate the use of an AAD? A growing number of UK ones do. I'm jumping without one at the moment, and it limits my choice of DZs.
  7. It took me ages to even find mine. Country, that is. Unless I missed something, it didn't say in the article what, ahem, state the penises were in when measured.
  8. Personally, from the thread title I'd been expecting something like this.
  9. Don't know about a caption. But I see potential for a new sport, like domino toppling on a grand scale.
  10. Talk Talk Girls Aloud Scouting for Girls Helicopter Girl Talking Heads I'm not helping, am I?

    Overrated Crap

Two questions: 1. Do you like "Snatch"? 2. Are you from London? 1. I've never watched "Snatch" because "Lock, Stock" put me off. Do you rate one over the other? 2. Not originally, although I've lived here for a loooong time. So I'm kind of Londonized, but there's no rhyming slang in my vocabulary.
  12. Did the frog survive, or did he croak?

    Overrated Crap

I don't want to say "crap", but everyone seems to love these except me: The movie "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". Books by Dan Brown. Books by Stieg Larsson.
  14. I see what you did there. My garden is pretty much weeds and foxes.
  15. Amazing achievement, fantastic story, great filmmaking. It was a shame I didn't warm to Petit himself - maybe it just goes with the territory when you're as driven as that, but he seemed to have little consideration for anyone else involved. And when he reveals that the first thing he did after completing his stunt was go and have sex with someone who wasn't his girlfriend - . There's being a 'character', and then there's being a rat...
  16. If I was being picky, I'd complain about the typical reduction of the BASE acronym to the lower case word 'base'. But yeah, on the whole it looks very well researched.
  17. Easy, you include Damon Funny, I was going to say that about Eastwood! Never rated him particularly as an actor, and I like his direction even less.
  18. There's a fine line, isn't there? I agree that The Social Network stays the right side of it. Whereas, let's say Juno, didn't. At least, not for me. David Mamet is another favourite screenwriter of mine. If you read his dialogue on the page it's highly artificial, but when it's performed you get carried along by the sheer pleasure of hearing it spoken.
  19. Oh man, I hope Shigeru doesn't see this thread. He'd probably never draw again if he saw the kind of talent he was up against. Seriously, I did like your doodles. They kind of reminded me of this one that some Italian guy did during a boring sculpture class a few years back.
  20. See, you're doing it again. Make your mind up. Which are you? Thing is, we don't care about St. George - we might as well have Austin Powers as a patron saint. We might show more interest in St. George's day if it was a public holiday, but - it ain't.
  21. I was going to ask what you were doing out of the kitch... oh.
  22. (Gets hold of 'Sean' and shakes him) YOU... ARE... NOT... IRISH! YOU... ARE... PERSIAN!
  23. Yep, hence the term 'Plastic Paddy' - AKA an American with some distant, irrelevant ancestry in 'the old country' (runs for cover).
