The inventor of Facebook looks like an ass (hey, blame David Fincher, not me). And he provided the opportunity for assdom to millions of other people.

TAKE THAT BACK!!! I do. In fact, I'm only being super nice to you from now on, for fear that a MikeJD voodoo doll will be making an appearance.
-
I had to look that up!! What?! And here was I thinking you were a good Christian girl.

Those are swaddling clothes if ever I saw them. It looks like you stole the baby Jesus from a nativity model and then made him all long and thin. Stretch Jesus.

Manipulating photos of women isn't new either - it just used to be more labour-intensive! I remember a picture of Jane Russell that must have been from the 40s or 50s, where they'd obviously done some touching up to give her a smaller waist. I wish I could locate it now!

Who are you saying has 'a little part'? Have we touched on a small nerve?!! Don't you start as well.

Sure is a shame that our finest hour was 70 years ago. It's about time we had another one!

Very nice indeed. Bottom left image on the first page: Let 410? We had a number of those in the UK for a while, mostly on loan from the Czech Republic or Ukraine. I love them! By the way, just FYI, the thumbnail to the right of that one links to the wrong image...

Mythbuster Skydiving episode 04/13/11
MikeJD replied to gjhdiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How is it that TV celebrities' faces even look good in freefall? -
Only been there once, for an 8-way competition that no other teams turned up to.
-
Yeah, I know a lot of people like that.
-
Because from what I've seen of that show it's badly named - too much emphasis on entertainment over proper scientific experimentation. There were some pretty big holes in the way they approached the skydiving-themed myths that I've seen - I'm sure that's also true of the stuff I know nothing about!
-
How are you going to see from there whether I have my hand up or not? I have super duper (yes i said super duper) thick reading glasses Can you see me now? Wow, those really are super duper glasses!
-
I'm sure you're right - because the guy in the lorry would probably just drive right over his little hamster car, and not even feel the bump.

Black and white minstrels. Hard to believe this was popular light entertainment within my lifetime!
-
...get so wound up about other people's behaviour? Seriously, I'm in no way immune but all this anger over petty things - I wonder whether we'd all feel better for just rising above it. We do seem to have some basic human need to feel irritated much of the time

"Can I offer you a muffin?" "I'm thinking a really good muffin would make your day." "You need muffin!" Yep, that all sounds innocent enough.

I'm CYPRES-less-less at the moment as well, but it ain't keeping me on the ground - feels just like the old days. I've already - by some miracle - survived several jumps without an AAD this year, including my first chop in about fifteen years! Unfortunately what does keep me on the ground is having been 'selected' by my project manager to spend the weekend slaving over a hot laptop. And to make it worse, some idiot - in what I can only assume was a deliberate taunt - has been buzzing through the blue sky over my house in a light aircraft this afternoon...

Oh, cordura! OK, I didn't recognise it from your photos. I think I'm just not used to seeing it in the lighter shades. Back when I bought my first container in the early 90s, most people were going for the lighter, thinner parapak (sp?) - I suspect, as with too many skydiving decisions, that was a 'fashion' thing since cordura was associated - at least in my mind - with student gear. However, there's a reason for that - as you say, it's very hard-wearing!

Nice rig! What's the fabric? From the photos it looks quite a lightweight material. I've never had a Viper, but I jumped a 'classic' 1-pin Teardrop (precursor to the Super Fly) for many years and was happy with that. They were very popular in the UK, although most Brits seem to buy American gear now. I liked having the reserve pin protected against my back, and the way it all closed up so neatly. People seem to have a downer on velcro these days, but on that rig it was actually great for keeping everything neatly and safely tucked away, so long as you maintained it.

Huh? WIA? Angel? Presume 'wounded in action' and 'deceased'.

Aircraft rides don't make me sick, but I have been in a jump plane when I was already feeling nauseous and that was pretty grim. And although it might seem easy to throw up out of the door, I've seen that done before and it didn't go so well.
