  1. I kinda feel like there is no need for a skydiving version. weight, simplicity, speed, and glide are not major issues skydiving. In BASE for the most part all systems are similar enough to be inter-changable for similar sized pilots. In skydiving containers and suits and canopies have huge combination possibilities for the pilots. and of course, the R/D involved in building a complete new rig and certifying it. -SPACE-
  2. I pushed all the buttons in the elevator at the hospital after I got off. -SPACE-
  3. Generally, "swoopers" get the most attention, swoopers have the smallest canopies, and women like popular men. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/37561870/ns/health-behavior
  4. Yeah! these guys are pretty cool. http://www.vimeo.com/12082759 -SPACE-
  5. what is his background? does he have a history in paragliding and speed flying? Every person is different. -SPACE-
  6. Or maybe skydivers in general think they are more intelligent than they really are..., and are too easily offended by something as minuscule as the reference 'dorkzone'. word.
  7. I call this dorkzone, as well as BASE.com dorkzone, i call facebook stalkerbook, etc. but I am on the sites as much as anyone else if not more. we all shop at walmart.
  8. Incorrect. no, he got concept, just maybe a bit backwards with a relative tailwind, the propeller pitch is working against the torque of the attached wheels. this is not a huge issue as the relative wind drag is helping push the vehicle forward. some models have variable pitch propellers or way of disengaging the drive wheels. A variable pitch propeller is ideal for fastest transitions. with a relative headwind, the propeller is driving the vehicle forward and providing all forward thrust. -SPACE-
  9. in my experience they are state-sponsored gangs, hate-encouraging substance abuse clubs that trick themselves into thinking they are "helping". Brothers for life, sure, but I prefer brothers I do not have to pay for. And my brothers do not encourage gang rape or date rape on a weekly basis. Vandalized a lot of Frat houses, that's for sure. Worked in a sorority house kitchen for a while. Those were good days. Girl-only house parties were catered by me. we win.
  10. This is a frame of reference problem, obviously a little too logistically complex for some. -SPACE-
  11. Yes, it can be done, but it requires a comparably complex and precisely controlled purpose-built machine to do it. There have been several land models that have done it. -SPACE-
  12. It took about 5 attempts to get the setup and execution how we wanted it. We did our Dr. Bills between 2006 and 2008. we first used climbing harnesses and about 40m of rope, but found that it was too long and the separate harness unnecessary. I built a single hang point into two skydiving rigs and used my rope jumping descent setup to connect the jumpers. The goal was to get two jumpers above a canopy in flight with one hanging 10m below it. my god, that was fun. Acro on a stilletto 150 loaded to 2.5/1 with a center of mass FAR below the CP. we started with a spectre 190, and tried a lot of different wings. ended up that a Stilletto 150 was best aerodynamic balance. the 120 was too small and fast. Sadly, Alex is no longer with us, and I have been really wanting to improve on this. Soon. -SPACE-
  13. You do not believe because of evidence, or experience. Your motivation to 'bring awareness' to the people does not come from a want to help the world be a better place. "you can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe"- C.S.
  14. rapell from another skydiver Where was the rap? I have done it a few times. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2008649&id=203002032&l=d596480c02 -SPACE-
  15. Your dad was a saw pilot? that is pretty cool. good story. Glad you were able to make that connection. I jump because it is hopeless. It puts the beauty and frailness of the human in perspective. It is Vast. -SPACE-
  16. mach has been broken in freefall and it will be again by Felix. -SPACE-
  17. It's pretty safe to say that FF is technically 'harder' than belly-flying and therefore (in groups) so is adjusting fall-rate, docking, etc... It's pretty safe to say not only is your statement incorrect, but you haven't got the experience to be making it. hmmm... It makes sense to me. higher speed, inherent instability, cork factor. I would say that high end free flying competition is significantly more technical than RW. Of course the god of freeflying probably cannot RW worth crap. (cue someone proving that wrong) but there is a reason head down flying is not in AFF level 4. I maintain that competition in any field of parachuting goes against my personal reasons for appreciating the sports. (BASE race notwithstanding) -SPACE-
  18. there is a special place in hell for people that lack the basic physics knowledge along with the motivation and audacity to claim that the Apollo lunar landings were faked. I really hope you are joking. I will assume you are due to the general hilarity of this thread.
  19. you are incorrect, but it is very difficult to do. much more probable/possible to 'gift wrap' with a medium-loaded efficient canopy, (swooping canopy at 1.5/1) but I imagine it is possible with even a correctly loaded BASE canopy. (.7/1 seven cell). I have been able to get my blackjack 260 (loaded at .6/1) completely below the horizon fairly easily during comical attempts at acro flying, I have not tried to make all the lines slack, however. as said, it is very easy to do in a paraglider. (gift wrap) -SPACE-
  20. I don't "HATE" RW, freefly, or wingsuit organized flocking, I just hate when someone comes down from flying out of a plane MILES off the ground and is MAD that someone 'ruined their jump/load'. WTF? go line dancing or something. -SPACE-
