Of the skydive canopies I have used, the stiletto is the best. I used trimmers though, and on a 150 (stiletto) that works great. -SPACE-

inflation control is the most important, then comes the trimmed speed. any skydiving canopy is significantly less willing to cooperate while ground handling and launching. try kiting a bullet or a nano sometime, you will see what I mean. then there is recovery arcs, glide ratios, energy retention, etc. speed flying gliders have much better scores in all these. -SPACE-

I smell a movie deal.

Things you dont like about skydiving?
Calvin19 replied to swoopfly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
skydivers -SPACE- -
I have only ever flown a GLX 135, the 120 must be insane for speed flying launches. with the right sight and the right pilot, a GLX 70 would be AMAZING, and I hope to use one someday for that. (I am working on smaller and faster right now though ) I was being overly-judgmental, being that all the 50 jump muppets that read this and call me for lessons want to fly their saber2s off the local hill. -SPACE-

I have gone to 17k' and 79miles on a rag wing but yes, you are correct. that is why I fly sailplanes also. 120mph and 50/1 L-D. interstate is no big deal. (round trip) It has been a long time since I have flown a hang glider. I have not rigged my delta wing dream 205 in over 2 years now. -SPACE-

I use -Ozone Bullet (speed glider, all sizes) -paragliders I have used skydiving canopies, but the significant lack of control and feel for the only thing keeping you off the ground is scary. With a STRONG upslope wind, sometimes using skydiving canopies is ok. but rarely. I include the GLX in that. it's just a skydiving canopy that can't be skydived. -SPACE-

What type of reserve ripcord did you pull?
Calvin19 replied to riggerrob's topic in Gear and Rigging
I had a reserve handle that was just the cable swaged in a loop with some webbing tape over it and a velcro strip. the webbing wore through, thus the tape. worked great. wold it as is and as far as I know the owner left it like that. -SPACE- -
Get a purpose built speed glider and learn how to use it. you live more and longer than all the muppets who have gotten hurt or killed running off things with their skydive canopies. -SPACE-

you know, people die doing that. -SPACE-

how the hell is this in speakers corner?

because he is a stoner and that would not be near as cool. -SPACE-

Spray paint works. -SPACE-

Along the same lines, a friend of mine REALLY (honestly) wants to teach a horse to launch on an XL tandem paraglider with him riding. /So he does not have to hike the mountain to start points. The parks will not allow us to drive, but they allow these gorram idiots with horses to shit all over the trail. (yeah, 99.9% of traffic is pedestrians). I fucking hate horses, but I think the horse would hate it enough to where I would feel bad for it. I showed him the video of the donkey parasailing. -SPACE-

Landing a plane vs landing a parachute
Calvin19 replied to gofast_ER's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
1250 parachute jumps, 250 winsuit, 300 hours PG flight time, 500+ speed glider flights on foot and skis, and 600 logged PIC hours in anything from a quicksilver to a kingair. everything helps. -SPACE- -
partially joking. -SPACE-
-
how many of you have landed a parachute without the brake lines? (I mean the line is flapping behind the canopy, not still through the ring, noob) it sucks. a lot. just cut away dude. I do it for fun sometimes.

I saw that thread, but not that post. thank you! hmmm... my cat is cooler. -SPACE-

So, I found a tunnel that would let me bring my cat. has anyone else tried this? anything extra I should bring?
-
Hang glider pilots also use the term.
-
and most importantly, of everything that you ever do, in anything from skydiving to homosexual experimentation, PAY ATTENTION.
-
Slightly less simple rules, in order, for all parachuting activities: -know your gear and keep it correctly assembled and packed. -Know what you are doing, I do not always have a complete plan but I always have an out. -Don't crash into anything or anyone. -pull. -pull on time. -pull stable. -fly it -Don't crash into anything or anyone -Don't turn too low -Flare -SPACE-

Tandem PG tumbling. (FREAKING AMAZING ACRO PILOTS)
Calvin19 replied to Calvin19's topic in The Bonfire
I have jumped my PG from a plane, pretty complicated and very hard on the gear. the tumble, or any 'transitional' dynamic maneuver is pretty hard to time. Of course, I have never tumbled. The tumble, at least more than one rotation, takes pretty hard core equipment. the gliders used to tumble are VERY acro-specific. a regular glider CAN "tumble" if enough energy and timing is put into it, but only once or twice before the energy is lost. -SPACE- -
Tandem PG tumbling. (FREAKING AMAZING ACRO PILOTS)
Calvin19 replied to Calvin19's topic in The Bonfire
AMAZING. (this is why I sold my skydive rig and bought a paraglider 5 years ago) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQJsl8WpqqY I flew with these guys in swiss land last year, needless to say they are the best of the best. and really awesome guys. good story also. If you want a good story/documentary with awesome PG footage look up Gabor and Pals' video of them learning to fly acro. -SPACE- -
Sell an egg or two. (or a child, White kids go for top dollar in Northwestern Europe)
