  1. When comedian Lewis Black gets exasperated and confused, he makes this lip-flapping blubbering kinda sound and goes, "Burb-blurb-buh-bluhbuh-WHUH?!" That's how I am feeling right now, trying to figure out what the hell you are talking about, and how you are coming up with some of the really zany, out-there shit you've been saying lately... GRAVITY is what would make oxygen molecules de-mix out of the air and congregate at my ceiling, causing me to die of anoxia... Any guess you can offer about why oxygen would suddenly do this on a local scale like this, when it NEVER does it anywhere else, ever? That is a really whack-o thing to suggest, kallend, especially for a guy with physics expertise. So you think I don't understand gravity?? And you think an understanding of gravity is all there is to making a good skydiver? Are you feeling okay?? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  2. You're taking offense at a meaning given to my words by your own misinterpretation of them, nothing more. Certainly not because I was trying to say that black people have a penchant, habit, compulsion or anything else for attacking white people. Plain and simple, I was offering that it's not only whites who attack blacks now and then -- that blacks are "known to" attack whites now and then, too. So if you're done, you're done. I'm fine with that. But don't pin it on me. I know what I said and what I meant, and you insisting that I meant something bigoted doesn't change the fact that I did not. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 3. It would have been a high-tech attack, though. He would have crippled Iraq's vast, advanced, automated, computer-driven infrastructure by injecting a software virus into their matrix via that "Internet"-thingie he invented. Bloodless battle -- just like a humanity-loving leftist pacifist ought to fight. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  4. Look at the way news media lampoon Catholicism, and rip deep into it because of things like molester-priests etc. They shred the Catholic church. And then CNN won't publish the cartoons because they might further offend muslims?! What kind of bullshit double-standard kowtowing is that? I just this night read a single-panel comic in a Time magazine that showed a priest in a frock asking another priest, "Does this make me look gay?" That's okay, even though it may well offend Catholics... I mean hey, we all know that there has been a true-life issue with gay priests, pedophile priests... so it's truly fair game. But then there has been a worldwide problem with MUSLIMS BLOWING UP INNOCENT PEOPLE BY THE HUNDREDS. So it's fair-fucking game to depict mohammed with a bomb as a turban to make a political-humor point! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  5. Indeed. However, in almost all cases, the wealthy minority rose against the regime, and the "little" people took care of the actual fighting and overthrowing. In most African countries, the wealthy cast usualy benefits from local regimes, hence making it unlikely it will spark an uprising. Well, the poor then have an obligation to either rise up because they don't like their lot, or shut up because they refuse to do anything about it. Or is it only worth doing if the wealthy will back you up? Is freedom worth having only if the wealthy will sponsor your fight to have it? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  6. You don't see something inherently wrong in the practice of having kids -- some of whom you have strong reason to believe will die in agony of starvation and disease -- just as a security thing so that you'll be taken care of when you're old? That's truly fucked up. That is NOT a healthy reason to have children. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  7. Sounds like a problem with their government. In some places in the world, when the people were under a rotten government, they rose up, at the cost of lives and fortunes (ring a bell?) and overthrew their oppressors. They then did their best to form a government that would, by its charter, be accountable to the people. Maybe the U.K. should invade these African locales and set up a nice welfare state so that the pensioners will have income when they retire. This would obviate the need to have 67 emaciated children that you hope will farm and forage for you when you hit old age. They call the definition of insanity "doing the same thing over and over again, hoping for a different result." Isn't that what generation after generation of these people are doing? Then when people DO come in, through acts of charity, to give them education, and medical assistance, they are accused of trying to spread disease to the natives and kill them off. (Happened with some vaccine they were bringing there last year or so.) They REJECT the KNOWLEDGE that is brought from far more advanced cultures for their own benefit. They cling to superstition and that perpetuates their misery. I even read in a newspaper article a few years ago that in some African country (maybe countries) they believe that if a man infected with HIV and suffering from AIDS has sex with a virgin girl it will cure him. Guess what the fuck happens instead. And they still don't put the fuckin' clues together. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  8. Of course there can and probably will be, at some future point in history, a "swing toward the left." It's just that even NOW, as we are experiencing a swing toward the right the Left is calling it a swing toward the left -- as though even despite everyone wanting Leftist government, we are being served Rightist government. The delusion is incredible to behold. Just imagine for a second that you are a gun owner, never been polled about your feelings on gun ownership, and then someone comes out with an alleged poll result that says, "60+% of gun owners support [insert draconian gun control law that will do nothing to curb crime here]"! What would you think? You'd think they belonged in the loony bin, that's what you'd think. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  9. Because it can. Actually it's more likely to fall to the floor because oxygen molecules are heavier than nitrogen. You SHOULD be asking the question "if oxygen is heavier than nitrogen, why don't all the oxygen molecules sink to the bottom. Why do they stay mixed?" You raised the spectre of oxygen spontaneously rising to the ceiling of my room, causing anoxia leading to death. YOU please explain what natural, ordinarily occurring phenomenon would cause this to happen. Also, please report whether such a phenomenon has ever been known to have occurred, anywhere on earth, at any time. Carjackings are known to have occurred, and in fact there will be many of them occurring this night across the globe. You mean to compare the likelihood of you getting carjacked (which I claim could happen any day and YOU claim will never happen to you 'cause on account of you're so prepared and all) with the likelihood of all the oxygen in my bedroom migrating to the ceiling spontaneously. I ask you, dear audience, which of us is the lunatic? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  10. Oh! I finally get it! The brain surgeon gave you a... "false dichotomy" and now you can't understand comparisons, analogies, etc. Man! What'd he do? Accidentally sever your corpus callosum? Scramble your cerebral cortex? Ugh. You have my sympathy. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  11. Just as I thought. Too chicken shit to lay it plain. The real irony is that narcimund clearly doesn't get the joke I made. Either that, or he relates too closely with it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  12. Sometimes it's a matter of imitation. Just like when the first guy in prison ever appealed to a parole board because he "got religion." It quickly became apparent that you could fool lots of people by putting on a convincing show of being reformed. Now, unfortunately for those who are truly ill, FAKERS have made cynics out of many of us, and now we find it hard to believe such claims from ANYONE. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  13. Same as saying, "It's not unheard of that..." - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  14. Are you fucking for real? Are you really that dense? Have you never heard the idiom, "XXXX are 'known to' do YYYY?" It doesn't mean "that is the mark of XXXX," despite your egregious misunderstanding. It means, "This is something that has been done by XXXX." If I say, "I am known to eat artichokes," it does not mean nearly the same thing as, "I am known for eating artichokes." I am not the owner of YOUR lack of reading comprehension skills. YOU are. If I said that you are a "niggardly" person, are you going to call me a racist, or look up the definition of the word, and find out it has nothing to do with the word "nigger" or even with race at all?! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  15. No no no, come on, explain. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  16. Well, your error is in thinking that non-muslims are not supposed to be bound by the religious laws that bind muslims. See, if islam says muslims can't lampoon mohammed, it doesn't mean "just muslims." It means "the whole frickin' world." So for the same reason, even those whose religions don't forbid them to eat pork, we are all forbidden to eat pork. I know it sucks, but we'll get used to it... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  17. Hmm... I still say irrelevant. How often are you in a bar in which everyone is your sex partner? ME? Never. But hey, we're talkin' about a gay bar, here... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  18. You call me funny? And accuse my LEGITIMATE COMPARISON of two venues where guns might be used for defense against an armed attack of being a "digression" -- after you yourself "digressed" from talking about violence v. nonviolence to talking about choosing to eat liver instead of brains?! Have the students finally driven you mad, professor? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  19. Anything that is not forbidden by the laws of physics is possible. There is no law of physics that would prevent the oxygen and nitrogen from un-mixing. It is just unlikely. Don't worry about it, it probably won't happen to you and you already have enough other stuff to fret about. It seemed that you were trying to compare the likelihood of oxygen inexplicably migrating to my ceiling with the likelihood of someone carjacking you. We know some of the reasons people do carjackings. Is there an EXPLANATION for what would CAUSE the oxygen to migrate there? Just as you said that nothing against the laws of physics is possible, nothing that is not cause by something ever occurs. What would be the CAUSE of the oxygen migration? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  20. No, you're missing my main point: The Left has been saying, through six years of the Bush administration, that the majority of Americans actually DO, NOW want what the Left is selling -- and somehow despite this clear fact the legislatures and the courts are doing all they can to give the American people the opposite of what they are clamoring for (Leftist policy as law). So they are saying that when we have a Leftist administration, it's because the country wanted it and voted for it and got it... ...and when we have a Rightist administration, it's in SPITE of the fact that the country wanted a Leftist one. In fact, according to Democrats, the majority of GUN OWNERS support GUN BANS. And I'm wrong for thinking they're fucking nuts? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  21. You should see me attempt to take a thee-way Horny Gorilla out the door of the Otter! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  22. Can you demonstrate how doing without those things would equate to more food being made available to those starving kids? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  23. We have to address the need/desire discrepancy within our own sphere of influence and familiarity. Just how far do you expand that sphere in determining whether you and I, driving our nice modern cars and eating steak and fresh vegetables daily, are responsible for putting food on the table of those starving kids? Is every person who lives a prosperous life required to live an ascetic existence until such point that everyone on the planet receives the bare necessities? What about the notion that people must work for their own survival? Should the citizens of the world be obligated to carry the unfortunates on their backs? Just until they can fend for themselves? Indefinitely? Is it truly valid to put a guilt trip on those who can afford to live well just because some cannot? Where does my responsibility for the starving children of Africa (or even Appalachia) begin and end? Some argue that each is responsible for his own life, and if he can't meet his own basic necessities, if others help him, that's grand; and if they don't, nature takes its course and he does not survive long. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  24. I do. I think they were all either full of shit or crazy. I have to: I don't believe that there IS a god who was talking to them. So what other explanation is there? Now as far as Darius' question... (The word you were looking for is "premeditated.") The fact that some would claim that anyone who murders must have been "not in his right mind" would have to mean one of two things: - we never charge anyone for murder, because having murdered is proof that a person was insane and therefore not responsible for her actions - we dismiss the idea that "being out of your right mind" should get a murderer off scot-free, and we charge them all - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  25. We have too many labels to enable people to get out of accepting responsibility.. She knew that the cops needed to be at her home. I heard the 911 call.. That means she knew god damned well and good what she was doing and that it was wrong. That is SUCH an excellent point that I dare say it is about the ONLY point that really needs to be made in this whole subject. It is PROOF that she knew she should not do what she did, and therefore should stand to be aptly punished for it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
