  1. Yes, it seems Bush is all over the place with this topic. Bush has no moral compass. From what was being talked about in the news he passed this law because the insurance companies came to him and lobbied for it. The idea was that once insurance companies refused to cover care any more it would give Drs legal ccoverage to remove life support without fear of lawsuit. Once again he goes where the money is. (sorry if repeat, a lot of useless PA's started to happen so I skipped over a few pages) http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002215324_texaslaw22.html As governor, Bush signed right-to-die law WASHINGTON — The federal law that President Bush signed early yesterday in an effort to prolong Terri Schiavo's life appears to contradict a right-to-die law that he signed as Texas governor, prompting cries of hypocrisy from congressional Democrats and some bioethicists. In 1999, then-Gov. Bush signed the Advance Directives Act, which lets a patient's surrogate make life-ending decisions on his or her behalf. The measure also allows Texas hospitals to disconnect patients from life-sustaining systems if a physician, in consultation with a hospital bioethics committee, concludes that the patient's condition is hopeless. While Congress and the White House were considering legislation recently in the Schiavo case, the Texas law faced its first high-profile test. With the permission of a judge, a Houston hospital cut off life support for a badly deformed 6-month-old baby last week against his mother's wishes after doctors determined that continuing life support would be futile. The baby died almost immediately. "The mother down in Texas must be reading the Schiavo case and scratching her head," said Dr. Howard Brody, the director of Michigan State University's Center for Ethics and Humanities in the Life Sciences. "This does appear to be a contradiction." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  9. Yup. I know on one version of the Prius you have to place the FOB in the dash to enable the "Power" button, but I don't think that one broadcasts. No idea. Only test drove cars with it and never tried that. Maybe Bill has tried that. The salesman told me if you get within roughly two feet of the door it will unlock it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. BMW and Mercedes have had this broadcast FOB design for a few years now. This is nothing new. The broadcast range is only a few feet. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  13. I have been playing poker since high school and its interesting to see all the additional people playing now. This game may help them miss class because it takes at least an hour per game if you start with 4-5 people. Why is it so popular? It's very easy to pick up...one of the easiest games to teach. Also, you will not lose as much in a night playing it. You buy in per game ($5-$20) and are given a stack of chips. You play until you are out of chips or you won all of them - thus taking the pot. I have a friend that takes home anywhere from $7k - $20k year just from video poker on the boats. He has every possible stat memorized and he plays from that and his understanding of the game. Since he claims all of his losses and wins he doesn't get taxed too much. (btw, he teaches stats and economics). I've never come close to beating him in a game yet, but I always finish 2nd in those games. I am an average player and can hold my own except against those that play all the time. It is an addictive game because it's easy money and the more hands you see the better you get (which is why a lot of people use online holdem games now). Also, it is a very social game. I have met a few new friends just from playing. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  14. Damn. I thought the punchline would have been that they shot the stupid ones who stayed as an object lesson in Darwinism, although the lesson that I seem to get from the story is that churchgoing christians fall into two categories, the hypocritical and the stupid. Probably not the point that it really wanted to make I expect. I understand what the story was trying to point out...but I think it is insulting to those that do have true faith but prefer to live. A good pastor would have been the last one out of the church after making sure his congregation was safe from the radicals. I'm certain from my 7+ years of schooling in the seminary that the right choice would have been to leave. Once again, I understand the spirit of the message, but the point is a very dangerous one. This extreme perspective on religion is the same that drives people to blow themselves up in the name of their god. This is not what faith is about, this is not what the Bible teaches. I respect those that have faith and live it everyday. I used to be one of them and lost it many years ago. Just remember that what you believe is one of the most personal things a person can have and there needs to be respect for the variations of those beliefs. Not all ministers evangalize. From my experience those that need to push their faith and beliefs on others tend to be weak. It's not that they want others to experience the love in their god, but they need inclusion to feel they have made the right choice themselves. Those with the strongest beliefs live it everyday and affect those around them just by being there. These are the people that truly inspire and show people the beauty of what they hold true. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. Yes, but I have made skydives without an AAD. Are you saying gun owners are device dependant in regards to life? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  21. First off, I am a gun owner and shoot trap as a hobby. Second, I live in a city that has a high crime/murder rate and I have never needed a gun for safety. Nor have any of my friends. I live near a high traffic zone, and only a short walk from the nearest high crime low-income projects. Also, I have had a relative murdered by gunshot. Now, what was that about reality? Let me introduce you to the phrase "apples and oranges." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  22. I thought this is what the gun nuts did? After all you never know when a terrorist is going to invade your neighborhood and you will need your AK-47 to take them out. Or you will need your CCW because someone may start a shootout at a concert and you could be the hero! Feel free not to treat every skydive like the worst case scenario. Leave your reserve behind. You wouldn't want to be called a "nut" or something, by always planning for the worst... Isn't it ironic how some people think that you're a "nut" by having a gun handy to respond to a potential criminal attack, but those same people also think it's perfectly reasonable to always have a reserve parachute handy on every skydive? You can remove your foot from your mouth now. It must suck to have OBL chasing you all the time. btw - Base jumpers don't have a backup. And there are real hard core stats that show you the worst case scenario can happen on any jump. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 23. Nice ride. I was looking at some last night and that looks exactly like one of the bikes I am thinking about. Congrats! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  24. Every skydive is risky. I know you know that. You could be out doing a solo and have a zoomy newbie trying to do headdown at 40 jumps and spear you....thus knocking you out. I did my first 115 jumps off student status without an AAD. A very experienced instructor convinced me my life was worth the investment. Less than a year after I had it installed in my rig a small woman did a helmet-to-helmet during a simple 5-way and knocked me out. I came to and pulled on my own. If the hit was any harder or near breakoff there is a chance my AAD would have fired. I was on the dz a couple years back when a jumper I knew went in due to a collision. Had his Cypres been turned on he would still be here. Because of those two events I will not jump without a Cypres again. I know I can survive without one....I just prefer the back up device just in case. I am not device dependent. I have had a cutaway and pulled the reserve on my own....the thought of waiting for the Cypres never even entered my mind. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. I was born and raised Roman Catholic. I've made my wishes pretty clear to my family, although nothing is in writing. Those wishes include not being kept alive artificially or in a vegetative state, also organ donation to the extent that its possible, and cremation. Luckily (hopefully) my immediate family will respect my wishes even though they go against my Catholic upbringing and other relatives will object. Isn't it possible that even though her family has always known what Terri's wishes were, they are so contrary to their belief system they won't honor them? Get your wishes on paper. Religion is a crutch that is usually used when life gets tough. If someone is having a hard time making a choice like this one, they will turn to clergy for answers....and we know where that will lead. God's wishes will outweigh yours when it comes to those choices. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
