Illinois Governor Reinstates Execution
ChasingBlueSky replied to JamesNahikian's topic in The Bonfire
Let go of last year. There has been more talk about last years failure than this years team building. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
Illinois Governor Reinstates Execution

A lovefest for losers who probably cursed themselves again. It was pretty stupid to watch and very anti-climatic. Any reason why they didn't burn the glove that bobbled the ball in 84? Or maybe the ball that was bobbled last year that really lost the game for them? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Says you. What if they claim that the Lord wrote through them? Once again - that is where faith comes in - who is right in this argument? You? What makes the publisher any different than the prophets? They were ridiculed for claiming to be speaking for God and most didn't believe them. I cannot conceive of a god who rewards and punishes his creatures or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egotism, cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in nature. - Albert Einstein _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... History dictates that the Bible was written by men who walked and talked with Jesus himself. There is also something called Divine Inspiration and private revelation. At the risk of being called a nutcase, I personally have experienced both. So much so, that I am convinced there is only one God and one truth. Chris Um, check history again. The men that wrote the book only shared the names of the apostles - the didn't write the gospels. In fact, IIRC from the Seminary, John was the first gospel written - almost 50 years after Jesus died. The average life span back then would have had all the apostles dead by then. Divine inspiration is a faith based issue. If you are not Catholic, Christian, etc....that means the book was written by men and thus is flawed. Quoting lines from a book they have no faith in will not help you win any arguments with them. some quotes from one of my favorite movies: In other words: religion should be a blessing, not a burden -- it should be about ideas, not strict beliefs. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I don't need to see the movie. I already read the book and knows how it ends. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Look at that - shares went up. Freedom of speech dictated by the shareholders. Noice. If I was a PD at a radio station in one of those six markets he was dropped in, I would do whatever it took to get Stern on my station ASAP. The ratings influx would be amazing. Picking up a syndicated show is great on the budget as well - the show sells easily, you only have to pay a board op $10/hour (unless you are a union shop) and you can fire your entire morning show! Instant increase of the bottom line. Those six stations now have to figure out how to handle their mornings - and most of them will have to spend more money than they were before to put a new morning zoo in his place. CCC is going to take a hit all around for this decision. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

You weren't involved in cutting their broadcast lines when they were there live, were you? Now THAT's an FCC violation Um, no....but I know who did it He was going after me for illegal reproduction and distrubution of his show. He was a little upset that my tapes were being sent to the FCC, Shareholders of Infinity and the sponsors on the local station. It was just a job for me - my boss paid me to do it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

[replyNowadays the republican party is becoming the party of big government. Will that change after this administration? Hard to say. But it wouldn't suprise me one bit to see a gradual change in both parties as they try to attract voters from the undecided center. Great thread, so far. Hope it stays civil. Bill, I think you nailed it on the head - the social acceptance of the titles left/right have most people voting for their party on a straight line. How many times did we hear of Bush Sr or Clinton being accused of having many faces and wishy-washy on topics just to grab the voters that listen just for sound bites, or those that vote only on the topics. I have been guilty of calling myself left/liberal just to avoid being called a democrat or republican. Using that test above I place closer to Ghandi than anyone else on the chart....but I will probably still rely on the social term "liberal." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... And if one of them were sick or in the hospital they wouldn't be allowed in to see each other or make legal decisions for them since they were "not family." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

It seems to me that she already had equal rights. She lived with the lover of her choice. She has adopted kids. She had everything that married heterosexual couples have. Except that now she stands to lose half of her fortune during a divorce. So I think she had a superior arrangement before, and has actually lost some rights with this grandstanding move. Does that logic really work in your head? They had everthing but a civil union and that made you comfortable, now that they are "married" in a legal-for-now, secular sense....they stand to lose their rights? Huh? Ok, so you plan for divorce the moment you get married? Well, guess I can't peg you as that hopeless romantic you claim you are. Hey, if they voted for you as NRA president would you support them? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Now that you mention it...maybe Haliburton did have something to do with this. However, this is directly connected to the Bush family - Clear Channel, Infinity, and Spanish Broadcasting could not be as large and monopolist as they are without the help of that wonder family from Texas. Did you know you can't say tit but you can say titie bar on the radio? See, this is how goofy this FCC junk is. Did you know the FCC almost considers themself obsolete? Yup. They feel with pay-for-TV and Radio, as well as the interenet they are limited in what they can actually impose as "community defined standards." Like I said - no love lost between Stern and I. I was partially responsible for getting him kicked off the air in Chicago about 10 years back.....and then he sued me for it (along with a few others). I was logging his FCC violations because we were in the middle of a "radio war." I know first hand how many violations he has.....however, he has the right to freedom of speech, and I would fight for his right in a heartbeat. The corp climate of broadcasting in this country is heading us in a very dangerous direction. At this current moment in time it would only take three men to make a decision to censor someone and ban any talk of it from their media outlets - this would cover almost every single major broadcast outlet in the country. Scary stuff. You can argue just about anything you want, but freedom of speech is now something that hinges on how much it will effect the shareholders. Did you know that anyone can get away with swearing on TV/Radio? Yup, unless someone actually complains to the FCC they are powerless to do anything. The FCC is there just to impose community standards. Now, here is a good question - if Stern has possibly the most popular show in the country, wouldn't that mean that the community approves of his show??? Also, if I was a sponsor on Clear Channel I would be fumming - the ad rates for his show are huge. I know I would ask for a refund because I certainly wouldn't want my ads being run at the same time for the same cost during typical music in the morning. I haven't looked, but did anyone see how CCC stock did today? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Did you know that Clear Channel owns 50% of all radio stations in this country? Yes, HALF of all radio stations - that is a known fact. And almost all of the billboards. They are also known in the industry as "Cheap Channel" with the way the cut corners to make the greater profit. Who can you thank for this? Both Bush's - the first one allowed the first deregulation, the second one increased it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
