  1. Just talked to my roommate that listens to him all the time: 1) Stern has been on a rampage for the last two weeks against GWB. This has become an issue with his station in NYC and within Clear Channel - he has been told to stop and he refused. 2) He has been trying to prove how outrageous the cencorship has gotten in this country the last couple weeks as well. He played a tape made for 2 year olds telling them how to use the toilet and used the word "poo poo." Most of the stations across the country in fear of fines bleeped it out. He has been calling those stations on the air. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  3. Thank God. This society could do with a lot less trash. Chris And in my opinion this country could do with a lot less rightous religious people forcing their morals on everyone else - I find that offensive - can I get a law to fine those people for disrupting my life and causing me undue stress? Sorry, it goes both ways - this is America. Freedom of Speech. Yes, there should be responsibility in what you say (ie screaming fire in a crowded room). But there is nothing wrong with a show like Sterns. Do we take all the other radio shows off the air as well? Where does it stop? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. Thank God. This society could do with a lot less trash. My lord, I agree with GravityMaster and Gawain. I do not like Stern - the bastard named me in a lawsuit once upon a time. However, I will defend his right to freedom of speech. Offended? Turn off his show. It isn't that hard. Make him run disclaimers like they do on TV:"The following program may consider views and words that may be offensive to others." This country is taking a step backwards every day. This is insane. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

  9. We have heard for years that my generation will never see any of the money that SS is taking from our checks now. Didn't GWB make promises to fix SS in his first campaign? Well, guess it is time to start putting more money in my 401K. I'm certainly glad the debt and SS has become a background issue in this election Greenspan Urges Social Security Cuts By MARTIN CRUTSINGER, AP Economics Writer WASHINGTON - Federal Reserve (news - web sites) Chairman Alan Greenspan (news - web sites), stepping into the politically charged debate over Social Security (news - web sites), said Wednesday the country can't afford the benefits currently promised to the baby boom generation. He urged Congress to trim those benefits to get control of soaring budget deficits, which he said threatened a "very debilitating" rise in interest rates in coming years. Democratic presidential candidates denounced his proposals, and President Bush (news - web sites) and other Republicans sought to distance themselves from the Republican Greenspan. The central bank chairman also repeated his view that Bush's tax cuts should be made permanent to bolster economic growth. He said the estimated $1 trillion cost should be paid for, preferably, with spending cuts so the deficit would not be worsened. As for specifics on trimming Social Security, Greenspan told the House Budget Committee that one possibility would be to switch to an alternative measure of inflation for annual cost-of-living adjustments. Instead of relying on the Consumer Price Index (news - web sites), he suggested switching to a new chain-weighted CPI that gives lower inflation readings and thus would mean smaller payment increases. Greenspan, who turns 78 next week, also suggested tying the retirement age for full benefits to longer lifespans with the age continuing to rise. The 65-year age for retiring at full benefits started increasing last year and now stands at 65 years and four months. It will increase to 67 over the next two decades and then stop rising. Greenspan said his comments simply voiced views he has held since he chaired a blue-ribbon commission two decades ago. But the remarks set off a political storm. Democratic front-runner Sen. John Kerry (news - web sites) said the way to address the deficit was to roll back tax cuts for the wealthy and "the wrong way to cut the deficit is to cut Social Security benefits. If I'm president, we're simply not going to do it." Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites), D-N.C., called it "an outrage' for Greenspan to call for cuts in Social Security while at the same time endorsing making Bush's tax cuts permanent. Rep. Dennis Kucinich (news - web sites), D-Ohio, went even further and called for Greenspan to resign as Fed chairman, saying his comments were "a disgrace." Bush said Social Security benefits "should not be changed for people at or near retirement." Underscoring the view that Congress is not about to touch Greenspan's suggestions, especially in an election year, Republican House Speaker Dennis Hastert was asked to comment on the proposals and replied only, "He's a fine man." In his testimony before the Budget Committee, Greenspan said the current deficit situation, with projected record red ink of $521 billion this year, will worsen dramatically once the 77 million members of the baby boom generation start becoming eligible for Social Security benefits in just four years. He said projections show the country will go from having just over three workers supporting each retiree to 2.25 workers for every retiree by 2025. "This dramatic demographic change is certain to place enormous demands on our nation's resources — demands we will almost surely be unable to meet unless action is taken," Greenspan said. "For a variety of reasons, that action is better taken as soon as possible." He said taking action now would mean that people still working would have time to adjust their retirement savings plans to deal with smaller Social Security benefits. Greenspan said at some point the country needed to face the fact that the government has promised more in entitlement benefits than it can afford to pay. He said the problem was even worse for Medicare because it was impossible to estimate what types of costly medical advances will be available in coming years. He did not mention that Congress late last year, at Bush's urging, adopted a new prescription drug benefit as part of a Medicare overhaul now estimated to cost $540 billion over the next decade. "I am just basically saying that we are overcommitted at this stage," Greenspan said in response to committee questions. "It is important that we tell people who are about to retire what it is they will have." He warned that the government should not "promise more than we are able to deliver." While the country is currently enjoying the lowest interest rates in more than four decades, Greenspan warned that financial markets will begin pushing long-term rates higher if investors do not see progress in dealing with the projected huge deficits that will occur once baby boomers begin retiring. As he has in the past, Greenspan called on Congress to reinstitute rules that require any future tax cuts or spending increases to be paid for either by spending cuts in other areas or increases in other taxes. Bush has called for the rules to cover only spending increases, not tax cuts. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. That is where faith comes in - to the secular population you see a book saying "trust me, this was written by me because I was inspired by God." OBL is using the same speech these days. As far as sins go - according to the Catholic faith - God is the only one that gets to make that judgement. And let he who is without sin throw the first stone. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  11. I guess I never grew up - I read this article title today and couldn't stop laughing (even the url): http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=493&ncid=762&e=6&u=/ap/20040225/ap_en_mo/pooh_dispute Disney Asks Judge to Throw Out Pooh Suit By GARY GENTILE, AP Business Writer LOS ANGELES - The Walt Disney Co. urged a judge to throw out a 13-year-old Winnie the Pooh lawsuit on grounds that the company demanding millions of dollars in royalties stole and concealed legal documents. Disney accused Steven Slesinger Inc. of the same kind of conduct that caused a judge to fine Disney in a previous ruling. The hearing was expected to last several days. If the trial is allowed to proceed, it could begin in January. SSI owns the merchandising rights to the Pooh story characters. The company sued Disney in 1991, claiming it is owed millions in royalties on the sale of videotapes, DVDs and computer software. Disney claims those items were not covered in its 1983 licensing agreement with SSI. On Tuesday, Disney attorney Daniel Petrocelli alleged that a private investigator hired by SSI stole more than 6,000 pages of documents from a trash bin and company's offices over a period of years. "Rarely do you ever see a case where the rules have been broken so badly, so often, and so unapologetically," Petrocelli said as he asked a Superior Court judge to throw out the case. Petrocelli also said that for years SSI has refused to provide key documents and then only produced them long after their authors had died and could not be interviewed. SSI attorney Patrick Cathcart said there was nothing wrong about retrieving from a trash bin the "documents they (Disney) didn't care about and did abandon." Cathcart said the documents didn't reveal anything significant. Eric Ferrer, another SSI lawyer, also denied any wrongdoing and argued that Disney was simply trying to delay trial. "Disney has hijacked, derailed and turned on its head this trial," Ferrer said. "It's clever lawyering, but it's wrong." Ferrer called Disney's dismissal motion a backdoor effort to overturn a judge's earlier ruling that Disney destroyed documents in the case, including some marked "Winnie the Pooh-legal problems." "What Disney did was they destroyed evidence," Ferrer said. Although the judge stopped short of ruling Disney had intentionally destroyed the materials, he ordered the company to pay $90,000 in legal fees and said jurors could be told about the destruction when SSI's lawsuit goes to trial. Disney said the destroyed documents were irrelevant to the case. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 12. I have a friend that is a mechanic for a Toyota dealership, basically the only place you can get these cars serviced. He said you should need to replace the battery as often as you replace the water-pump in a car. Plus the cost of the battery pack is coming down in price every 6 months. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 13. Advice BWAHAHAHAHA! Anyway, I hauled alot of the hybrids, and I'm sure I will be again. I, because of this, have the unique opportunity to inspect these cars inside and out, including the entire bottom of the cars. Of all, the Civic hybrids have impressed me the most. Very solidly built. I remember the MPG difference between the hybrid and the regular gas models being less than 5 (city). Food for thought. One is planned for me in the future, along with my Viper Powered Dodge Ram SLT. In 2004 the tax right off is $1500. In 2005 it will be $1000, etc.... I test drove the 2004 Civic hybrid and 2004 Prius. The Civic drove and handled a lot like the nomal Civic, and the Prius handles and drives like a I-4 Camry. There is a lot more room in the Prius, but I think the display and the wierd view in the rear-view mirror could take some getting used to. I played with the display for a few minutes and it is intuitive for the most part. I drove the same exact route with both cars and "averaged" higher on the Prius in MPG. I also found the Prius to have a lot more room and much more storage space. The Prius is much more comfortable in the seats. The Civic has very typical instruments and ignition system - nothing to get used to there. The Prius has a small box the size of a keyless remote that pushes into the dash instead of a key, or you can get the wireless version that unlocks the doors when you stand next to the car and activates the start/ignition button. Both have very noisy tires. I am hoping to get a Prius by the end of the year. There is also the VW Jetta TDi that gets close to the same mileage using diesel. Since I drive 20-30k miles a year, the hybrid is a huge savings for me. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. At one point in time the majority of people on the planet thought the world was flat -- they were wrong. At one point in time the majority of people thought that slavery was perfectly acceptable -- they were wrong. At one point in time the majority of people thought blacks shouldn't have the same rights as whites -- they were wrong. At one point in time the majority of people thought that women shouldn't be allowed to vote -- they were wrong. There are many instances. At one point the Catholic Church excommunicated people for saying the Earth was not the center of galaxy. They were wrong. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  18. Yes, he's successfully campaigning for conservative christian votes while at the same time attempting to negate even more fundamental rights of the people of this nation. He's gotten really good at multi-tasking those things. He is also pretty good at taking away rights with the Patriot Act. Hmmm....Maybe he can include Gay Marriage as a terrorist attact as well, then he wouldn't need to get into the constitution.....he would just lock them up "for the good of national security." _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 22. No, because it doesn't change the DEFINITION of the word. Look it up in Websters, look it up in ANY dictionary. I don't see what the problem is - l;eave the WORD marriage alone. Use one called "Civil Union", or make up a whole new one. I am all for the protection of the same rights through the gov't, i.e. Social Security bennies, and medicare, retirement, the same as with a married couple, but the DEFINITION of marriage does not support the changes. You cannot just go changing the definitions of words to suit a certain lifestyle, or political Correct warm and fuzzy feeling. Here is an example: Bill - Male - Form of WILLIAM. (Means)resolute guardian But under the changes that you are ok with since we can alter the definition of any word we chose - Bill - Non gender specific - Form of William. (Means) Bright Pink Soft Fuzzy Flower Example 2: Shit: Now will mean to pat on the head lightly as in showing affection. I SHIT you not. You argument is one of semantics. This is about changing the paradigm. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  23. This is not a faith issue, at all. Seperation of church and state? Bush does not sit at the right hand of god, nor is the entire country a christian. He needs to get over himself and realize he is being as extreme as those he is waging a war against, except he has the power to enact change with his pen instead of a bomb. Guess what - he just rallied every single gay person in this country to vote for the dems in the election. This country was once the leader in so many areas, but Bush keeps trying to take us back in time, why? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
