Ask around enough and you will find someone that hates any DZ out there...just part of the sport. Sometimes the reasons are as subjective as why people like Pepsi over Coke. I have noticed a trend in the warmer states that tend to see a large influx of weekend warrior jumpers.....the locals tend to band together and get clickish and avoid the tourists. I'm sure after years of seeing hundreds of new faces every winter it gets old, but I still love seeing new faces at the dz. There are large "cultural" differances between dz's across the country. This can lead to the negative reviews from the visitors and the locals will get a sour taste about the jumpers from that dz. This is where a lot of the spinning prop comes from. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

I'm sure people would react poorly...with the current pace the religious right is at to restrict indecency at the cost of our rights (Stern is saying the FCC is moving to have him massivly fined next week so Infinty is forced to pull him off all stations), maybe that isn't too far off. There may be nothing like that now - but you are responsible for what you say. If you threaten to kill someone, make a verbal threat against a government employee, or verbally abuse a person you can end up in court and on the wrong side of a lawsuit and/or prison bars. Yup, got it right on the first try. Since my legal address is inside Chicago, I cannot own a handgun with that FOID but I can own a hunting rifle. Wow, yet another person that I typically argue with on this board has agreed with me??? I'm running out of people to irk! There are problems in society right now that most people don't want to admit to or don't know how to fix it - therefore they ignore it. The problems mentioned here are part of that - and I do know that most people would not want laws/legislation put in place to address these situations because it may directly effect their lives. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... The "Greatest Generation" is sliping away.
ChasingBlueSky replied to dustin19d's topic in The Bonfire
Check out this book: The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokaw Veteran reporter and NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw went to France to make a documentary marking the 40th anniversary of D-day in 1984. Although he was thoroughly briefed on the historical background of the invasion, he was totally unprepared for how it would affect him emotionally. Flooded with childhood memories of World War II, Brokaw began asking veterans at the ceremony to revisit their past and talk about what happened, triggering a chain reaction of war-torn confessions and Brokaw's compulsion to capture their experiences in what he terms "the permanence a book would represent." After almost 15 years and hundreds of letters and interviews, Brokaw wrote The Greatest Generation, a representative cross-section of the stories he came across. However, this collection is more than a mere chronicle of a tumultuous time, it's history made personal by a cast of everyday people transformed by extraordinary circumstances: the first women to break the homemaker mold, minorities suffering countless indignities to boldly fight for their country, infantrymen who went on to become some of the most distinguished leaders in the world, small-town kids who became corporate magnates. From the reminiscences of George Bush and Julia Child to the astonishing heroism and moving love stories of everyday people, The Greatest Generation salutes those whose sacrifices changed the course of American history. --Rebekah Warren _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... While I am not the biggest gun supporter, it is one of the rights given to us as citizens and I support that right just as much as free speech (and I do have my FOID). I believe in balance and moderation and anyone that takes such rights to an extreme do not have the best interest of the country in mind. Guns and speech may be "free" but both require a certain amount of responsiblity. That said - I am not a teacher but I spent 4 summers working with kids in high risk areas of Chicago. I worked along side the teachers that volunteered their time to make sure these kids didn't end up as another stat. Giving a time out or detention to a trouble student that would bring zero tolerance items to class/camp usually had them quiting the program and ending up in a gang. Yes, it is the responsiblity of the parents, etc....I don't disagree with you there. However, some of these kids didn't have that environment and they knew how to solve problems with violence. I'm sure the issues in the suburbs are not quite as extreme, but the angst seems to be the same. Zero tolerance is not the answer, and I am not certain what the answer really is. I know the reality is that either way a kid that wants to do damage will...I've tried to help and gave up in severe frustration when I saw some of the kids end up in jail for murder. However, throwing around the NRA angry stick isn't the answer. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Maybe the NRA should rally for conceal/carry laws for our school children???? While some of the zero tolerance gets out of hand...imagine how it would sound on the news if after another school shooting they find out a teacher overlooked the gun because he thought it was a cap gun, pellett gun, etc? Now, go ask the parents from Columbine how they feel about all of this. Imagine the type of anti-gun legislation would come down upon the industry if more kids were killed this way? You want your gun rights? Then you need this sort of stuff when it comes to kids. Somehow I think that the courts wouldn't have a problem with a large settlement against the gun industry if another massacre happened. Think. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Stalker avoidance. Still doesn't make sense to me - you are online and could be anywhere in the world, we don't have an IM program, you can block PM's, and if you post anyone can see it and know you were online. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Kids bringing guns to school. Nah not a problem...I mean, what's the worst that could happen???? The scissors is a bit over the top - doesn't everyone know that scissors don't kill people,;people kill people? Maybe the scissors were loaded? Maybe the teacher was loaded? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

I've been wanting to play a game that was my favorite back in the early 90s. Anyone know where to find a copy of Sid Meier's Covert Action? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

Why the 45 degree method does not work (long)
ChasingBlueSky replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
I love the fact that there are so many jumpers out there that believe they know better than the math and real proof. I've heard one too many JM's, S&TA, etc say you don't need to worry about how many seconds, just look for 45 degrees. I've had two close calls because of that. These are often the same people that believe it is ok to put freeflyers out first _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
