Here's a bit of advice. Don't talk about val as if she's not part of the decision making process of what software to use... HiJack this is not a user friendly tool - and you need to have a very good understanding of all things Windows before you use it. There's an option in there somewhere (at least on the Pro version) to do a startup scan - I'd try that too. "Hijack This" should get rid of most of the crap too. YOu really want her to use HiJack this? I just saw an article recently - they test drove all of the anti-spyware programs. There wasn't one that was fully effective, even the ones you have to pay for.
