  1. Chris, Are you honestly defending this action? To impose a new law, to be irresponsbile and inform no one, and then to enforce it with aggressive behavior? I am pointing blame at the lawmakers and enforcers in this instance. The burden of letting the community know about this law was on them. They apparently found it important enough to let the cops know, they should have let the people know. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 2. Please re read the story. They didn't tell anyone!!! They failed to inform the public at any level what the new law was. This is just pure insanity. Jane, stop this crazy thing! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  3. Hmmmm....so following that logic, waltzing into Afghan and Iraq was rude? We cared so much about what was happening in those two houses that we didn't knock on the door, we blew up the entire neighborhood. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 4. Exactly what I was thinking. I feel that those that were on the USS Cole feel different about your interpretations about terrorist attacks. Same thing for the people in Bali and Spain. The terrorists are doing something GW isn't - they are playing to the world and getting them on board. They pay attention to international politics and religion and push those hot buttons to sway them enough so they break. It doesn't help that relationships are already stressed due to the cowboy attitude this administration has. You cannot go it alone anymore in this world, and it seems that a man living in a cave has a better understanding of that then the president of our country. Terrorism is non stop and it is rampant across the globe - and 9/11 was just the wake up call for most of this country. Anyone that has been outside of the US knows how much of a reality terrorism is; our isolationism and pride were our own downfall (apparently we learned nothing from the days previous to Pearl Harbor). We have only further headed down that path since 9/11. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  5. Why? It's simple. Global Economy. The USA cannot survive without imports from other countries, and vice versa. Look at what happens to a country like Cuba or Libya that go off on their own and do things without approval from the world. How many things do we need to F'up before you think the UN leaves this country and countries start talking about sanctions for us? Plus, we force our vision and view upon all other countries and cultures out there, and since we didn't like the way two governments went about their work, we took them out. If we are going to play that game, then its only fair that the world demands that from us. Some may think we need to focus on what this country needs, and only what we need. In my opinion, its not focus but a myopic vision of the world that allows us to get blindsided. Our blinders allowed the events of 9/11 to unfold. Maybe its time we took them off. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  6. STOP THE INSANITY!!!! MIAMI (AFP) - A sheriff's deputy tackled, punched and arrested a US journalist for taking pictures of people waiting in line to cast early ballots in West Palm Beach, local media reported. A sheriff's spokesman said later the deputy was enforcing a new county rule prohibiting reporters from interviewing or photographing voters lined up outside the polls, the Palm Beach Post said. The deputy Sunday tried to grab the camera of James Henry, a freelance journalist who has written for The New York Times and The Washington Post. Henry, 54, ran across the pavement but was tackled by the deputy, who pinned him to the ground, punched him in the back and handcuffed him, according to the daily. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Palm Beach Supervisor of Elections Teresa LePore did not comment on the incident or the new rule, which had not been previously announced. LePore gained notoriety as the creator of the infamous butterfly ballot that confused thousands of voters in the chaotic and controversial 2000 election. Her counterpart from Leon County, Ion Sancho, expressed outrage at the attempt to restrict reporters and photographers outside polling places, saying it was a constitutional right, according to the Palm Beach Post. Le Pore's office had not announced the new rule before the incident. Election monitors say sheriff's deputies themselves broke the law on Sunday by standing right outside polling offices while early voting was going on. "We are considering filing a lawsuit," said Reggie Mitchell, a civil rights lawyer with the non-partisan Election Protection group that has deployed thousands of electoral monitors to Florida. He said the law prohibits police from standing in the immediate vicinity of polling stations unless they are voting or called in to handle a disturbance. Mitchell said deputies challenged Election Protection volunteers who were legally 15 meters (50 feet) away from the voting place. Close to 20 percent of the 10 million voters in Florida already voted ahead of Tuesday's elections, either by absentee ballot or in early voting that started on October 18. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. That 10,000 lawyer statement cracks me up. Not once has anyone shown proof of it - just some conspiracy theory republicans that are setting up a campaign of fear for people that are on the fence. First off - even if you retained first year lawyers, the cost to pay them off would be extreme...however, I don't think you would take rookies for something this important. Do the math - how would this even be possible. BOTH campaigns have admitted they have people in every state watching the election and would be willing to jump all over something that goes wrong (most likely only in a swing state, or wrong color state). All 50 states huh? I doubt you will see much about election fraud in CA or IL - two states that will easily be Kerry states. You are only adding fuel to a fire that hasn't even been lit yet. Why do such a thing? How is that helping the nasty environment already surrounding this election. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 8. Apparently the Blockbuster in his area must carry that movie. From CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/11/01/binladen.commercial.tm/ He likened Bush and his father to Middle Eastern despots who hand down power to their children. And in a dig described by one U.S. official as "more personal" than the criticisms leveled in previous bin Laden tapes, he taunted Bush with the fact, popularized by Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, that the president sat for seven minutes in a classroom reading "The Pet Goat"after learning about the 9/11 attacks. "This gave us three times the time needed to carry out the operations, thanks be to God," he said. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. I'm not sure if it has been a blessing in disguise not having to deal what people in IA, WI, OH and FL have been dealing with the last two months. However, it is wrong that both candidates can just ignore whole areas of the country - and then even listen to the President mock MA. Mayor Daley has boiled over a few times over being left in the dust and wants IL to have its own primary in 2007. However, I still don't think that a straight popular vote is the way to go. By going that route, we would still be stuck in a two party system IMO. I was curious on your thoughts of the condorcet method - do you feel that would be a better way to go? From what I have read, it seems a fair way to go, and a path that would allow someone outside of the typical two parties to gain a seat in government. Of course, the only downfall to it is that it works for major elections with only one seat open. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. Why is that? We have a couple Dauphins around here... mmmm... twin turbines.... It sounds really bad-ass going by. I have no idea. It seems that the ones I have seen around the city, in the air or landing on the highway have always been a Bell 222 or a variant of that type (the wheels retract). This may just be a Chicago thing....most of the news stations use the same chopper, except for one of them I believe. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. Which system exactly is "crooked"? I can think of many descriptors, but not that one. Crooked may be the wrong word. Outdated may be a better word. The electoral college is still a good thing until something better comes along. Going just by the popular vote would make smaller states like RI mean nothing in the election and states like CA be the biggest push for campaigning. I've started to read more on this: http://www.eskimo.com/~robla/politics/condorcet.html I'm still not sure what would be a better option, but the popular vote is NOT the way to go. The only crooked part about our election are the people associated with it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 12. Bombs blowing up in the green zone, mortars landing live on tv into the green zone. Threats that any attack on Falujah would bring wide spread insurgent attacks across Iraq. The new head of the Iraqi police force (that we are training) claiming that they are powerless against terrorists because they are not trained for that because they are only trained for civil support. Newly trained Iraqi police changing sides and using that training against the people and our troops, 47 dead Iraqi police from an inside job, etc. Thats a few steps backwards, don't you think? Need any more examples? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  13. Wow, I'm shocked. It just doesn't seem possible. Chris was a great guy and a fantastic skydiver. I really got to know him better over the last two years as he was a great supporter of the Team Funnel Fundraisers, we talked a lot online and always had a few drinks at boogies, esp this year as we waited out the rain at both WFFC and CF (he gave me some great birdman advice as well!). I truly respected his opinion and his years in the sport. The sport lost a leader yesterday He will be missed. Blue skies forever brother - enjoy those never ending flocks now. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 14. The part where the Left left out the Second Amendment. Besides, what does that phrase mean? As to Kerry's being open, I don't see many Republicans trying to disturb them. Can you say the same about the left? I don't see the left trying to remove freedom of speech. Therefore they wouldn't have anything to show up and protest about - because they would be allowed to protest! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 15. You think I feel that either candidate represents me fully? Of course not. Ever since Regan started to villify "liberals" as Bush Sr was starting to run for office this country has borded on extreme partisian behaviors while on the stump. I'm more of a centrist than anything, and neither of these politicians are anywhere close to the center. We have the most liberal Senator and the most conservative, Christian President ever (his rallys even sound like a gospel revival now). Neither of those point of views are anywhere close to my opinions on life. I will repeat what I said above - that situation is OK because they are the organizer and they are allowed such things. True, you could have made a stink about it and been well within your rights, as long as you left when you were asked to. Thanks for the lesson. Name calling - its the one thing I've yet to understand about this election. I guess I could start cracking jokes on how Bush was a cheerleader, etc. Honestly, I'd prefer to stick with the issues and not hammer the same talking points into the ground day after day. Because of this mindset we have heard almost exclusivly about the war and economy from both of them. There are plenty more issues that need to be discussed, and one of the major ones (environment) has become an after thought. This entire election and the way both parties have behaved have added to the black eye we already had from the 2000 election. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. Who's right to assemble? The Republicans or their protestors. Both. Just because someone in the audience may have disagreed on ONE point, doesn't mean they were not republicans that were going to vote for GW. However, strong arm, Nazi, aggressive like tactics may have changed their position. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. Sorry Kennedy - I'm try to be pretty fair about stuff...but this is out of control. Protestors have traditionally showed up at speech's in the past - on both sides of all issues. None of the offenders in this article did anything wrong. Speaking the word "No" from an ederly woman is criminal tresspassing??? Despite the invitation the RNC sent to her????? Women that had valid invitations to attend the rally were deemed obscene because they had shirts that reflected the rights in our consitution? How would you feel if someone with a pro-gun tshirt saying "Support Gun Ownership" were arrested or kicked out from a Kerry speech? But, it hasn't happened, has it? This is very sad, and indeed, very scarey that the staff of the POTUS would so easily tread on the rights to assembly and freedom of speech. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 19. I just looked over at the stack of paper I am recycling this month and realized just how much I read. I was just curious what is the list of stuff you read every month? This month I read "Angels and Demons" as well as "DaVinci Code" (A&D is better). I reread most of The Joys of Photography, and I am starting in on "Devil in the White City." I won't count any of the books I skim over while sitting at Barnes and Noble. On top of those books, I read these magazines every month (and I get all but the skydiving ones for free): Skydiving Parachutist Newsweek (x4) Mobile PC PC Magazine Smithsonian PC World Wired Time eWeek (x4) PC Gamer Maxim Popular Mechanics Discover Flight Training Plus I've started to read the WSJ and Sun Times that gets delivered to work. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. This conspiracy has been around for a couple of years now. It does nothing but ask questions and does nothing to seek proof. The FBI does not typically release video for an investigation, just like it hasn't released much from the WTC. There is no need for full disclosure. Also, the video says those at the hotel watched the video - well, what was on the video? They mentioned it "sounded like a missle." How many civilians know what that sounds like? And, go back to the WTC tapes, maybe thats the sound they heard? Conspiracy is one way people handle grief...this was to be expected. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. Pic from the TV ad http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/041029/480/nyet27010291345 Story: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/bush_ad Bush Campaign to Recut Doctored Ad By LIZ SIDOTI, Associated Press Writer INDIANOLA, Iowa - President Bush campaign acknowledged Thursday that it had doctored a photograph used in a television commercial to remove the president and the podium where he was standing. The campaign said the ad will be re-edited and reshipped to TV stations. A group of soldiers in the crowd was electronically copied to fill in the space where the president and the podium had been, aides say. "There was no need to do that," said Mark McKinnon, head of Bush's advertising team who shouldered the blame. "Everyone technically works for me so I accept the responsibility." The original photograph shows a sea of soldiers sitting behind the president as he stands at a podium just left of the center of the frame. Bush was speaking at Fort Drum in New York on July 19, 2002. Democrats said it is fitting that Bush would fabricate an advertising image. "This administration has always had a problem telling the truth from Iraq to jobs to health care," said Kerry spokesman Joe Lockhart. "The Bush campaign's advertising has been consistently dishonest in what they say. But today, it's been exposed for being dishonest about what we see. If they won't tell the truth in an ad, they won't tell the truth about anything else." McKinnon said a video editor he declined to identify was told to edit the picture to focus on a young boy waving a flag. On his own initiative, the editor removed the podium and copied the faces, McKinnon said. "I didn't even know it was done," he said. The doctoring was first revealed on an Internet site. "There was no intention on anybody's part to try to represent anything that wasn't true," McKinnon said The Bush campaign noted that Bush was addressing a large group of troops in both the original and edited version. "Bush is talking to the troops, the troops are real," said Bush spokesman Steve Schmidt said. He noted that the crowd the president was speaking to was much larger than depicted in the ad. The ad, released Wednesday, is an emotional appeal in which Bush defends his decision to go to war and empathizes with fallen soldiers and their families. The ad is running on national cable networks and in local media markets in at least one state, Ohio. The issue was first mentioned on the liberal Web log www.dailykos.com. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
