All I can say is a slow controlled reach for it. If you attack it like I did on my first jump you latch on to the first thing you touch. I was told to grab the ripcord on the ground and hold on to it with my eyes closed and get that muscle memory of where it is. My next 13 jumps I calmly reach back and hit it every time.

Wallet, that is a life long injury. Weak knee. Still jumping till it gets better or goes out.

In my department there are 3 lawyers that are also reserve deputies. They are always at the capitol lobbying for all CCW bills. They also Hold CCW classes. B4 I became a deputy I obtained a CCW through the local gun range to later find out that the owner was a Capt, the guy working the desk was a LT and the lawywer that I was talking about, and the CCW instructor was a Sgt. So I CAN say that they are going "up to bat" for CCW. They helped pass alot of laws for us LE as well. At this time we can carry anywhere in the state at any time. This was not the case a few years ago you had to be ''On duty" in order to go into a bar, school, gun free zone concealed. They got that changed to allow all on/off/qualified retired officers to be an ecception.

I agree with you being held to one sate or a few with a agreements sucks. but I would bet you do not go through all the training that we go through. Initially 6 months of Firearms training every other saturday and sunday for 8 hours shooting from up to 50 yds, traffic stops involving gunfights using simmuntion, and CQB house clearing. Recurrency includes requalifying with a semi-auto 4 times a year with 40 hours weapon retention training a year. Not saying that you couldn't gun me down in a gunfight, but we are looking it in a political arena. Here in my state the private concealed licence holders only have to sit through 8 hours of firearms awareness, 8 hours of law and shoot a b-27(man sized) paper target 10 times anywhere on the body at 7 yds ONCE every 4 YEARS! This is alarming to me. If I was GOV. of a state and I had a strict Concealed weapons program, and my neighbor state had a very poor program I would hate to be forced to allow them to carry in my state. If they upped the qualifications to post standards and made them universal that would be a start.

NOT YEA BUT HELL YEA! Makes you wish if they were just stopping him for running a stop sign and endangering all the lives on the interstate that he would have gotten away.

http://leaa.org/218/ This is gonna be a dream for me. Mississippi next to louisiana where I live does not have an agreement to allow us Louisiana LE to carry in their state under a comission or a private concealed licence. This will end the 20 year bitching and fighting between LA and MS. It would be great to have all 50 states the same so you don't have to worry about stopping at state lines and moving firearms from holser to a lock box in the trunk, ect. It is a pain in the ass when you travel to research the states you are traveling throught to see what steps you have to take in order to not get harasses.

S.O.S. and RSL what is the problems?
cvfd1399 replied to cvfd1399's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well inspection/maintenance on the ground. Handle checks in the plane to lower the risk of having a mal at the door/in air. Gear check! ALTITUDE awareness! If tracking or FFing slow down before dumping to keep from possibly blowing out your canopy. Pull on time/stable and do thorough canopy control check above hard deck(2,500 for me). Head on a swivel to keep from having a canopy collision. All every jump. Kill myself for sure not landable parachute... go for reserve b/c it's better to know your going in and to have tried, than to have a freshly packed reserve on your back when they cut the rig off you and never know if it would have deployed in time. Injury type not landable.... plf the hell out of it. It is hard to say what anyone "will" do when the time arrives, but I think this is what I would most likley do. In a perfect would I could say look at your SOS handle and pull the reserve cable that is swagged to the handle by hand without taking it out of the pouch, but at 1k and 3 or more cables on the handle your not likley to choose the right one, and pull it with one finger in time. This might give you a good canopy, and a bad one or 2 bad ones, but I figure the more drag the better. Other than my perfect world scenario was I right on the rest? -
Yes it is called a pick head axe, it is a 6-8 lb axe that has the same point on one side of it, and then a regular axe blade on the other side. All you could do with it is chop a line 4 times to make a square I think it took the guy 15 minutes.

I attended a class on building blast effects in Indiana a few months ago. The largest initial danger in a explosion outside a building is flying glass. So new buildings, and older buildings are now having a pretty thick coating applied to the windows to reduce the chance of the window breaking, along with blast curtians that look like the sun shades people put in their car to block the glare for a baby in a car seat. Here is the problem. We watched videos of 200lb Anfo blasts at 20 yds that only shook the window like plexiglass. They also did a test with different thickness coatings on windows, and had a firefighter challange to see who could break the window first. They used axes, mawls, hooks, circular(k12) saws, and even tried freezing it with cryo liquid and hitting it with a ax, and the quickest time was a min 15 seconds with the circular saw, and the glass melted on the blade when he cut it.

I agree. It is made to eat away lead and powder foweling from firearms.

I always thought of that on a reverse flip out the door. That is why I only do front flip or a nestea plunge

S.O.S. and RSL what is the problems?
cvfd1399 replied to cvfd1399's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not really. An RSL will NOT deploy your reserve even if you pull your cutaway handle if: -you have not deployed your main yet -you have a total {{knew that}} -you have a PC in tow -you have a very low drag mal, older (reverse) risers and tight riser covers. {{ The two above is b/c of lack of enough drag to pull RSL out of velcro and pull reserve cable?}} -
Deal! I will look at what my Docs. my insurance covers tonight and make an date to go see him/her.

S.O.S. and RSL what is the problems?
cvfd1399 replied to cvfd1399's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
x4 that is what I was thinking just making sure I was not trying to read too far into it. I like the idea of SOS deploying with one handle, but I think I like the option of being able to cut away, and wait to clear anything before deploying reserve. I like the dual with RSL, gives you the option to unhook RSL and clear, or with RSL it is pretty much a SOS. Am I correct. My current rig is SOS with RSL. So there is 2 pieces of EQ. pulling reserve right. (SOS handle, and riser RSL). -
S.O.S. and RSL what is the problems?
cvfd1399 replied to cvfd1399's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
From the ISP [7. What is the appropriate action if below 1,000 feet without a landable parachute? Immediately deploy the reserve parachute, but not below 1,000 feet with an SOS system.] Why not with a SOS what is the reasoning for that? B/C it chops main, and you are looking for as much canopy(s) above you? [27. What is generally the best action to take in the following two-canopy-out scenarios ? a. Biplane Release the brakes on the dominant canopy only and steer that canopy gently; PLF. b. Side by side Release the brakes on the dominant canopy only and steer that canopy gently; or release the RSL (if time) and cut away; PLF. c. Downplane Release the RSL (if time) and cut away.] Why release RSL? If the reserve is already out the RSL guide ring will just slide off the reserve cable on it's way out? OR are we worried about the reserve deployment cable being in a bind or trapped and the rsl not being able to slide off the cable leaving the rsl side riser still attached when you cut away? -
Let us know. I tore mine 2 years ago playing golf!(thanks happy gilmore) Doc did not do surgery, and a month ago I hurt it again falling off a tube at 40 Mph. It aches bad, and I cannot straighten it out into the fully locked position. If I sleep on my belly it wakes me up in pain to bend it. I am worried, but hate doctors. Not from fear of pain, but from fear of blowing away my time on non-agressive docs, and docs that are set in a usual get "pt and take these pills" routine. From my experience I get the same thing at pt that I get walking around during the day.
