  1. Been there, done that. It DOES happen. Pizza delivery while in college was probably one of the coolest jobs ever. You meet lots of people, most of them just ordinary, some weird, some cool, some unforgettable. You know where all the best after hours parties are gonna be. Even the pay was pretty decent, for a student lifestyle. 2. I've cut a few railroad cars in half; but yeah, the house thing is a little more involved since it wasn't being scrapped. 3. That is a very good thing. Fully engaged is the only way to be. There are so many ways things can go bad (and so many ways things go good too). We had a tandem-catching injury yesterday afternoon; of all things. A little sloppy footwork, a little too much zeal to get to a toggle, and sproing!! Seriously sprang, possibly broken foot. 4. Same here. I lost a bit, then bailed. Turned out to be the good move because I would have lost much more doing the tough-it-out thing. Now it is safe and while it's not making a lot, at least it is staying ahead of inflation. The new money though is still going into the mutuals. Buying low and looking forward to selling high. 6. Tell me more about that. They always sit at the rear (by the door) at STC. I assumed that was standard practice, but wasn't sure why. Guessing it allows then to deal with their camera gear easier, and get good pre-jump shots. I do like that I get to see a lot of our exits on video. Why is it bad for them to sit there? 7. 10-4 on that. I have had 3 knee surgeries, have osca schlattis (or however it is spelled - it's those bumps at the top of your shin right below the kneecap that are very sensitive), and moderate tearing in both ACL's. Crawling around on the packing floor in no fun at all. Nowadays, I suck it up and pack my own most of the time anyway. I have a strange packing history. I was really stuck on flat-packing (started in '95) and was totally convinced it was the best way to ensure a good opening. For my first 500 jumps I flat-packed it myself half the time, and paid packers the other half. Then I finally got Dustin The Packing Troll to teach me once and for all to pro-pack. Now I almost always pack my own and the pro-pack method cut the hands-n-knees time in half. 8. You are correct. Sometimes they send it home with the kid and don't let them participate until you return the waiver. At least up here (WI, USA) there is a waiver required for pretty much anything. All sports to be certain, and most every other activity other than sitting in a classroom. The Girl Scouts require one before any activity requiring travel; even the Jump Rope For A Healthy Heart fundraiser required one. They are all pretty worthless and I assume the organizations know that. I think they use them only because they know a lot of people think signing it is the final word and won't take recourse because they think there is none. In other words, collecting a waiver for a minor is basically a bluff. 9. That was kallend, and it only took him to message #3 to do it. . Perhaps you should re-read post#3. GUNS aren't mentioned AT ALL. Here, I'll even make it easy for you The first mention of guns in this thread was in post#5, and the poster was ...... JOHN RICH! (What a surprise). You guys are funny. The two of you should consider hooking up as a road show. You might make some big money. Kid of like when Timothy Leary and Gordon Liddy were doing their thing. Just funning you. Happy weekend, blue skies. The Pirana has left the building. 11. I say now is a time to buy as well as to hide. You just need to hide from and run to the right things. I moved out of all hospitality, retail, financial, heavy industry, etc last fall. All existing money went to a safe haven for now. All new money is buying up as much as I can in high-tech stuff, biomed, wireless, hardware & software, chemicals, etc. When the economy comes back, these are the things that will explode. If I play my options right I'll be retiring early (at the peak of the next up cycle). Religulous

Just saw the trailer for the first time. This looks like one funny flick. How long before we see a fatwa on Mr. Maher? http://www.lionsgate.com/religulous/ " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  13. Condolences on having to grieve for dead friends. That always sucks. On being banned from so many places; it reminds me of one of my favorites from Demotivators: "The common element in all your dysfunctional relationships is you." Very little chance that someone banned so often has not been the outright cause of said bannings. 14. $2.88 yesterday. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  15. How did a thread on pool safety get morphed into a debate on guns and crime? Seems to have strayed, or at least pushed the bounds of relevance; or was that the intention? I mean, I thought I was joining a thread on pool safety and it turned into a platform for . . . ? 16. That's like saying somebody that died in a car crash after falling asleep at the wheel died from sleeping and not a MVA. Or that the cause of death after being shot in the head by a jealous husband was jealousy, not a gunshot wound. Actually, we do have a bit of an outcry around here whenever little kids drown; sometimes a very big one. The last round resulted in new legislation after a little girl got her bowels sunctioned right out of her body by a floor drain at a public pool. My observation is that, at least around here, there is more action from a drowning death than a gunshot death. 17. To make money. Sounds like it might provide a few laughs too. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  18. I've read in a few places that it is #2; behind car accidents. That is for children under 14. Couldn't quickly find other age breakdowns on causes of death. That's still pretty high for the age group, considering it is the cause of only 2/3rds of 1 percent of all deaths nationwide. Surprisingly, our insurance rate is barely effected by our having a pool. I get a much higher rate-up ($400 per year) because we have an old silo on the property. Puts us in a farm/agriculture classification. The other thing is that we recently got a huge increase (50%) because our carrier decided to add the square footage of our poolhouse to the footage of the house. So they used to value the house at $225K, but jacked it up to $530K. That is for a 45' by 32' addition that has the structural complexity of a garage. It's just a big empty shell that happens to have a pool in it. Freakin' ridiculous! So we went to a different carrier that sees it for what it is; a garage that happens to house a pool. As for the safety angle; the doors not only have deadbolts, but each has a hasp and padlock as well. If it were outdoors, I'd have one of those wave sensing alarms. Those should be mandatory since the required fencing I've seen would not keep a lot of little climbers out. 19. Fuck, I don't know. You're annoying to be around, aren't you? Do yourself a favor. If and when you go to West Tn. don't talk alot. Best post of the thread. 20. We are a republic. We do not elect via popular vote, and do not get to vote on the laws as they are presented. In a true democracy we would all get to vote, town hall style, on everything. 21. My perspective is that most every law that exists was put in place by a pack of mostly self-serving attorneys known as our legislature. So yeah, it's the attorneys. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  22. I've seen nothing posted yet to show that the waiver would do what the DZO would want it to do, when signed by a guardian on behalf of a minor. (Though I still have a couple more pages to review). In fact, the conversation seems to be going in circles; and the more you post, the more it feels like you are not on the up and up. 23. Hey, there is fun to be had in most every situation. When someone goes low, it's a swoop and dock opportunity. Sometimes when they go by, I hope they go 100' or more past so I can get a good one. You'll find out soon enough (probably finding out already) which jumpers have more time and more appetite for inviting new folks along. Those that invite you do not mind, and as mentioned, expect your lesser ability. (Most are very aware that they too are lesser skilled and learning from those senior to them). Don't take it personally that some rarely or never invite you. They could be very busy with team or staff obligations; or it just might not be their thing. It's not you, it's them. Roll with it. 24. 1. AAD 2. Your expecting that your car goes completely straight and the road doesn't curve at all. If you truly do "nothing", then you will not be steering now will ya, which probable means yes you will die. This thread has officially gone completely off topic. 1. If you ever make the decision to rely on your AAD, immediately sell all your gear and buy a bowling ball because skydiving is not for you. 2. How many times have you been in a vehicle when there was a certainty of death? My guess is zero. How many times have you been skydiving when there was a certainty of death? Every time. Its not even comparable and if you can't understand that, I would never want to be in the air with you. You need to follow the conversation more closely. Did anyone advocate, anywhere in this thread, that somebody rely on an AAD? Your need to make dramatic statements seems to have caused you to hear something that was not said. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  25. Seems to me that this provides wiggle room for the person signing the waiver/release; not more (or any) protection for the business. It occurs to me that the any arguement for allowing minors to skydive would rely on the waiver being enforceable in terms of protecting the business from a suit. The information posted seems to go in the opposite direction; allowing the minors parents to file suit even though they may have agreed not to.
