How would that civil union be treated in relation to that legal court thing where you do not have to testify against a "spouse?" How does it work nowadays for domestic partners? Where is that Rocket named Law? Very good. When I was much much younger, one of my first girlfriends had a friend that really irked me. Then we had sex and everything was fine. She was pretty darn gorgeous though, so maybe not the same solution for you. You could always have sex with her and pretend she is your girlfriend. Now what kind of twisted shit is that? Pretending the person you are having sex with (with whom you should not be fucking) is the person you should be fucking? Didn't even know that was collected as part of voting. Can I get a report on how plumbers voted? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

The writing was on the wall after his speech at the previous DNC. I told several people the next day I would take bets that he'd be our next Dem president. No takers. Once the race officially opened, it was a juggernaut that could have only been stopped by making it's own big mistakes. They made none. And it was all over but the shouting weeks ago. Watching the TV coverages try to make it seem interesting (close) was a hoot. It was a total shellacing that has been on perfect track for over 4 years. I think a lot of us did. At first I thought she was a brilliant choice. Unfortunately as we started to learn more and more about her it became clear that she was more damaging than positive. I'm curious how the process for chosing a running mate goes - someone must have thought she was a good choice - I'm curious as to why. Ian She was a window-dressing choice from the word go. Certainly you want a reputable DZ, and one that meets your needs (cold v warm, big v small, etc.). Might want to check some Midwest DZ's if you are price concious as some of them do seem to be a good amount cheaper. At my home DZ, graduating AFF will cost you about $1100 (if you pass all jumps 1st time of course), and after that 13K costs $22. Only catch here is they are closed for the winter. haha! throwin all the eggs in one basket. For my 200th I plan on doing a wingsuit mr.bill tandem base with camera, light my pants on fire and swoop the landing over a croc infested pond with a 70 sqft canopy while blindfolded. ya, i'm just that good... Don't forget to hook up the canopy backwards. Anything less would be so passe. We had a student a few weeks ago that cut away because this thing came sliding down her lines. She cuts away, and SHIT! It happens again, damn piece of fabric caught in the lines and sliding down towards her hands. Good thing she didn't have a hook knife. Holy crap! 100% mark-up over the direct-to-DZ price; and that is IF the DZ gets their usual fee. May be legit, but it is still a rip. Huh? Math is hard. It's not even math, it's only arithmetic. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley -
Great stuff. My favorite Cohen line: "Take the only tree that's left, Stuff it up the hole in your culture." OK, just one of my favorites. And that voice. Knarly but smooth. Nobody else like him. Give it some time/ a wife/ 3 kids and we will see how that metabolism works for you What's that got to do with metabolism? If anything, that should mean more work, and more exercise. 52, married, 2 kids, about 190, and haven't varied by more than 10 pounds since my mid twenties. I owe that to level of activity. I break a hard sweat damn near every day; quite often multiple times per day. I work and play hard enough that I think it would be very difficult for me to gain weight regardless of the volume of fuel I consume. I can stuff my gullet repeatedly to the point of bursting and not gain weight. Not tooting my horn, just using self as example that the best way to not gain weight is to remain active. The more active you are, the more you can eat and not give it a second thought. Hell, I never give it a first thought. Besides, it's fun. I'd much rather split wood, dig holes, play ball, build shit, etc than sit in front of the world's favorite opiate - TV. Think about it, is it better to have a couple cords of stacked wood, a tree planted, a couple innings of ball under your belt, and some shit built; or the memories of back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back episodes of the pablum shoveled over the airwaves? (With a bonus of being able to eat whatever you want). One other thing, I was not aware of such a system of placement. That's not a good thing. I can see if there is a VERY special need, otherwise it should be random. That does get factored out in High School though, at least in our system. Kids register for all classes with lots of slots to pick from. I am very opinionated and share openly with our teachers and administrators. Wonder if I'm on the psycho list? That would seem to say that teachers are nothing but babysitters. Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but if the parents are responsible for student performance; what are the teachers responsible for? Just handing out lesson plans? My urge is to skin them and eat them while they are still wiggling. Is that wrong? But seriously; I think if a video game pushes a person over the edge, they had some serious coping/functionality issues to begin with. A person with a mind so fragile, or tendencies so warped, that watching or playing anything sends them off the deep end should have been getting professional help all along. Cool show; but too many assembly line segments. I know, that is how most stuff is made these days; but once you see a couple hundred assembly lines, there is not a lot more to learn. Make at least half the segments more along the lines of craftsman-type stuff and it would be much better. I can't believe nobody has mentioned that cute little tierra-thingy french maids wear. Too passe? Too much been-there-done-that? Now that is cool. Big question is, does doing it with a model translate to full scale aircraft? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

As usual, the devil is in the details; though I would happily volunteer to work thru them for a nominal consulting fee. All a moot point however since the unions will fight any kind of merit based system to their death. They no way no how want anybody grading their members performance; and isn't that ironic? eh?... there's a special word that we reserve for statments like now isn't there? It's bollocks.

I share your sentiment. My apathy is at an all time high. Both sides totally suck rocks. How depressing that the greatest democracy in the world has come down to this BS. We are one small step away from both parties putting out a I-know-you-are-but-what-am-I advertisement. Fucking pathetic. If McCain had not chosen window dressing for a VP, he would probably get my vote. If there was any moderation to Obama's desire to take us down the path to full-fledged socialism, he might get my vote. Hard to believe how polarized we have become, and how crippling that polarity is in preventing the use of common sense and generating effective change and intelligent movement into the future. IMO, anybody who thinks either slate, or either parties agenda is exactly what the country needs ought to get a psych evaluation. I acknowledge the other party options, but know that unless they get a meaningful share, it is ignored. I'd say anything under 5% is trifling, but I'm probably gonna do it anyway. Who knows, maybe 10% of the voting public does it and we at least send a strong message. Last time I felt similarly (1992), I voted Perot; simply as a protest vote. I know, can be seen as a waste and a stupid thing to do; but I'm not voting for either of these morons. I think that for the type of people that ar going to riot, this will just be a convenient excuse. I mean, some people riot when their team loses OR wins a sports championship. WTF is that about? Some people are just looking for a reason to cause trouble under the guise that their problems are somebody else's fault. And it's almost always somebody not like them. How fucking convenient. Palin on fruit flies - why does she hate science?

Maybe he was right and you were the one who was wrong. Too funny. The propogation of ignorance is a powerful enemy. Ran into it another time one night when I was out observing in the darkest spot I could find at a local park. Some young people (20's) strolling by came over and asked for a peek. I walked them each thru a turn at the eyepiece; after which one of them asked how I knew what we were looking at was really Saturn. I suppose I could have launched into a discussion of the hundreds of years of observations, Kepler's Laws of Planetary Motion, retrograde, etc. Instead I just mentioned the rings. A close call indeed. Good thing I wasn't observing Venus. You are exposing this person's personal morals, and possibly some situational ethics, (all good, we're all just here to chat, right); which may have no logical basis. Good example: Sometimes people come off sounding like they have a life-is-sacred principle. I've met a lot of people that would state that outright on their own, or if prompted to answer the question "Is life sacred?" In reality, very few people truly believe that. Almost everybody I've ever met has a line that can't be crossed. They have some situation that allows life to be brought to an end. Could be abortion, suicide, what they see as a just war, mercy killing, self-defense, etc. As with killing, things like incest & rape can stir powerful emotions. Someone that might take a stand and say no abortions, then might start making exceptions because one of their other priciples or morals got touched. There is no real logic to it; it's just emotional response based on some value that got instilled. Emotions do not always make sense, especially when several potentially conflicting principles come into play. So if you are looking for logic you might not find any. A fun little excercise is to write down all your priciples on little slips of paper. Try building a pyramid with them with your most sacred principle at the top, not to be violated regardless of all other principles. What you find out is that what most people mistake for a heirarchy of principles is just a web of tangled emotional responses. Pardon the longwindedness. Felt the need to say more than "Because humans are more emotional than logical."
