  1. While I can see you you might have interpreted it that way, I think he's trying to say that his first canopy was a PD 190, his 2nd was a Triathlon 175, his third was a Triathlon 160 and now he's on his 4th canopy, the Safire2. Yes; hence the smiley and "But seriously . . ." statement. 2. Maybe you could just hold the pilot chute in your hand like a drogue, assuming you don't need to dock with your right hand . If you do need both hands for grips, maybe put the PC in your teeth, get that last point, turn and spit. 3. Yes, when I have gone more than about 12' down during scuba I need to descend and ascend very slowly. IIRC (it's been a long time) the descent was a pain in the ass. The person I was with got a bit annoyed that I kept stopping. 4. Yeah, you nailed it on the head there. We Americans are all a bunch of fat, lazy ignorant bastards. Especially the ones from Texas. Everyone knows that you Europeans are much more enlightened and advanced than us. Have pity on our poor souls. Correction, we are all fat, lazy and ignorant because we are all rich - not poor. Yes that's it; we are all rolling in money, . . .and . . . naked woman, and . . . guns, lots of guns, and we hate everybody who is not just like us, and . . . 5. By alter the physics do you mean change the rules, or change the input values? The rules are the same ("I can't change the laws of physics Captain!"), only the variables are changing. Terminal velocity is a function of other factors, not a constant. So, no matter what he does he will achieve terminal velocity. All other things being equal, it will be faster in less dense air, faster with a lowered drag coefficient (the texture presented to the relative wind), faster with more mass, etc. So, not a physics person here, but maybe somewhere else? Yeah, that was pissy and nitty; but just funning ya. 6. So would you throw out as you reach for the touch, or get the touch and then dump? I'm guessing for safety reasons you'd throw out while reaching for the touch. 7. I have some serious allergies (have had nasal polyps removed several times due to 100% blockage). My ears typically do not clear until the next day, sometimes the 2nd day. I end up going "What?" and "Huh?" a lot while chatting over beers. I don't take any meds because they seem to make me drowsy. If it is just dullness or pluggage, no big deal. If you feel actual pain; like he said, see a Dr. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  8. Huh? This sport is like very few other things. Maybe you are a really bad driver. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  9. I've heard 2 very different protocols from very experienced veterans as far as what to do if you are out of the formation (usually going way low) and have little or no chance of getting back in. 1 - Track like mad. Get far far away, with the idea that you will be long gone and not reachable by those who track off as scheduled at the end of the dive. 2 - Keep working at getting back up and in, even if you know you won't make it. The idea is to stay in contact with the group so everyone knows where everyone else is at. I like number 2 better because it really spooks me to think there is somebody out there that tracked off at say 7K; especially since they may be a relatively inexperienced jumper. Made a jump last week (4-way) and a guy with about 200 jumps went low (maybe 70 to 80 feet). He gave a wave like he was going to track off (at 8K or so). I immediately dropped grips on the 3 of us that were together and dove down to him because I did not want him tracking off and not to be seen until opening. Worked out cool anyway because the other 2 followed and we actually got 2 points before breakoff. And it was a fun swoop. In my eyes it is safer, and there is more learning and fun to be had trying to get back together than there is in giving up on the dive and tracking off where people can't see you. What say you veterans? 10. I sleep at home, get smokes bummed from me, smell tolerable, and have a good reputation from most (I think - but they could be just being nice and actually hate me). Who is next? I want to know how everybody thinks their odor is perceived. 11. Got it. Agreed. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  12. If they are truly jungle rules, then anybody who pies me has no grounds to bitch when I then proceed to go roll around on their rig. 13. People should bring whatever they like to drink. If you don't like what they bring, you're free to not drink it. If a person can afford to skydive, they can afford to buy their own good beer in bottles. I am aware of my freedoms. And I do bring my own beer and beer to share, almost every trip. My original statements still stand on their own, along with my freedoms and along with the beer I bring out very regularly. PHHHHHTTTTT! " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  14. Strange progression. A 160 to a 175 to a 190, then to a 150? But seriously, ask a good smattering of the seasoned veterans (a.k.a. the old guys) and rated instructors who have seen you jump and land regularly. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  15. And no cheap stuff. And bottles only. If a person can afford AFF, they can afford to cap it off with a case of good beer, . . . in bottles. Some student bought a case of Steel Reserve, . . . in cans. They must have thought the name was cool. One of the worst beers I have ever tasted. One of the very few in my life I poured on the ground. It sat in the fridge for at least a week - - unheard of at the DZ. It was THAT bad. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  16. I am very straightforward, yet also quite reserved. One of my things is a disdain for the long, and usually awkward goodbye. With my wife, I have to get her started on the goodbye process about an hour before I actually want to get moving. With me it's "It's been a gas jumping with you, take care, see you next time. G-bye and G-night" while barely slowing down for a handslap. True story. Went to a 10-year reunion of my college radio station friends. (I was the Rock n' Roll Pirana). Near the end of the evening, still about 20 or 30 people around; but I was tired and done, having had my fun. The thought of working thru the crowd and all the awkward goodbyes (why are people so awkward when saying goodbye when they think they will not see the person for a long time or maybe forever?) was more than I wanted to deal with. So I went out on the balcony, had a smoke, then using the drain pipe and railings from the lower balconies shimmied down 4 floors to the ground level. Nice and quiet, and actually good fun. Turns out my under-the-radar exit backfired because I ran into one of the folks several years later and there was quite the discussion about where I went and why after I left. It turned into a big running joke about being a failed super-hero. "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb." 17. Would it be wrong for you to share that? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  18. Some people are lower keyed and really don't like the attention. Some are not in need of or desiring acknowledgement. Not all humans are loud, partying, looking-for-attention type people. I've just made 700; that and one previous 00 jump (I think it was 300) are the only ones I even let people know were such. Shit, there are very few people in my life who even know my birthday. Drives a few people at work nuts because I won't be on the birthday list and be a part of the "hoopla." Respect your more reserved friends and honor their desire to enjoy their moments their own quiet way. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  19. I don't get it. Why would a person even consider cutting lines instead of just cutaway and deploy reserve? I mean, if you've decided it's not landable, what would make you get out the knife instead of the reserve? The cost of a repack? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  20. I agree the shock of seeing 1200 might cause the instinct to kick in and just dump the main. However, I'd like to think I'd not dump my Stiletto at 1200. It can be exciting enough at double that altitude. For that reason (among others) I go thru EP's in my head and with my hands prior to EVERY SINGLE JUMP. (Little voice in head: "Below 1800, silver only, below 1800, silver only, . . ."). In the situation described; much better to turn, pull silver, and hope for on heading opening. Fuck the wave off. The turn and pull should get people's attention. 21. People with no balance are the ones most likely to act in the extreme. All obsessions are bad. Doesn't matter if it is religion, politics, skydiving, picking your nose, smelling other people's underarms, etc. They may get really good at their choice of obsession, but are also usually somewhere between annoying and psychotic on the can-they-be-tolerated spectrum. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  22. It's an ambiguous word, which of course means it gets used with great license, often as an insult. As a status, it is a positive thing and simply means someone is at the top of the heap in some way. Maybe as a skydiver, or a raiser of monstrous pumpkins, or even as the biggest pooper. As a behavior, it is an attitude that only those at the top have a say in how things are or ought to be. Unfortunately, many that have worked their way to some perceived situation of status or standing get called elitist out of jealousy and resentment. (Usually by the ignorance-propogating I-don't-need-no-stinking-degree crowd). BTW, it has nothing to do with social class. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley
  23. Not exactly a break; but they do fare better (if better means getting less punishment, or none at all). Quite simply, more money means you get to hire better talent. Do you think the local public defender would have gotten OJ off? Doing well in the legal system means being a good story teller and getting the judge and/or jury to believe your story instead of the other guy's story. If you can afford to hire the best story tellers, the very best at convincing people your story is more plausible/true/likely, then you have a much better chance of winning. 25. I agree, but I'm trying to see how many people agree with Sarah Palin's position, which I consider to be extreme. That is an extreme position to take. And the part about not ensuring your sexually active teenager is on the pill. I still don't know much about this woman, but my take based on what I do know so far (if these things are true) is there is the potential for extremely poor judgement. I think Mr. McCain's ploy of picking her may very well blow up in his face.
