How can you lump MM with Borat? I mean, Borat was certainly stupid at times, but was also very funny at others. Not worth owning, but I think a good bargain at the $1 cinema. Agreed. The problem I have with any insanity defense is that the crime itself is the best proof of mental derangement. Other than true self-defense, killing someone automatically qualifies you as deranged. Of course they are insane. As Dennis Miller said "The fact that Mr. Mustard offed somebody was my first clue. What were you looking for, red wine with fish?" So they kill someone, which just goes to show they are nuts, which is used as a reason to not be held responsible for killing someone. IMO it is a fundamental flaw of our rules for justice that being nuts is like having a get-out-of-the-electric-chair-free card. I do take some solace if it is true what someone posted about it being very difficult to use. The other thing is that everyone is nuts to some degree or another. Everybody has there hot buttons, flashpoints, and nuerosis that could be used to show they were just not in their normal frame of mind, maybe even temporarily incapable of seeing the evil in their deeds. So fucking what. Still doesn't absolve anybody for the consequences of their actions. Take that far enough and "I just wasn't thinking clearly" becomes as reasonable a defense. Hair-shirt is a label applied to extremely liberal idealists. It may be dated a bit, . . . like me. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Repack by potential buyer's rigger, or cash for repack by owner's rigger (owner's choice), plus a bottle for the save. No charge for the jump. I hear Campbell's stock is one of the few standouts, doing just fine. Seriously; people are banking that soup will be very big for a while. Buy bullion. What or who is Woobie? Star Wars character? " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Allow me to be more blunt. She's a murderous psychopath. EDIT (to appease the hair-shirts around here): Until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt, I'm sure she is a kind, loving, nurturing, warm-hearted mommy-wannabee. Only after all legal proceedings have finished can we then call her a murderous psychopath. That is some of the worst supposedly professional writing I've seen. Makes you wonder where they get writers for that shit; poor unemployed relatives who kinda know how to read but still can't write? Douglas Adams, Cormac McCarthy, Bram Stroker, Oscar Wilde, Alexandre Dumas, James Joyce to name few. Uh, those are authors, not books. Maybe you have a bunch of authors, some dead, in your basement. Sometimes I just kill myself.

Mythbusters by far; they are simply better in every way - including the hot chick thing. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Ah yes, Onion Wisdom. I like the lone line near the middle; "The report indicates this frustrates you." " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

I like the communication near the end, something like 'Thank you, and you can land wherever you like.' " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

Up here that's an oxymoron (IMO). Maybe codes and standards down there are different, but around here anything built in the last 15 years is made mostly of waferboard (OSB) and vinyl. New construction around here uses very little actual wood. It's all wood "product" which means if it gets wet, it falls apart. I know, it's not supposed to get wet, but you know how that goes. Fake wood, fake brick (over fake wood no less), fake logs, fake divided lights; very bizarre. They do not seem to know or care about types of skydiving. They take a very macro view of it. To them all jumping is bad. The more the worse. I had a rather terse debate with one of our underwriters when I was turned down for supplemental coverage. I can get up to 3X salary no questions asked, but have to qualify in order to buy more. He said not to bother applying after I told him I make about 100 to 150 per summer. He was willing to consider it if I only made a few per year. In their mind higher jump numbers and additional risk are in direct coorelation. I don't know how the numbers would work out if you really drilled it down, but I assured him that somebody making 3 jumps per year is NOT going to be a safe skydiver. Then he got perturbed with me and muttered something about other lifestyle issues known to be common amongst skydivers. I rolled my eyes, which I think he saw even though it was a phone call, because I'm convinced they are watching me now. I see invisble black helicopters, flown by underwriters. I see invisible black helicopters. Paranoid conspiracy theorist blogs do not constitute evidence. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

I think I just read he gets to keep about $13 million. That's the total of the signing bonus and severance. WTF!? Three weeks on the job and he gets a $6 million severance! Perfect reflection of the mindset that put us in this mess. Starting skydiving, sinus hurts after landing!?
pirana replied to PeteyD's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think the medical term is a sinus lavage. I've had it done several times in the past. I had the full-blown one where they punch a hole thru your upper palette into your sinus cavities (the fitting looks like the needle you use to pump up a ball), put a hose on it, turn on the saline, and all the multi-colored goo comes out your mouth. No breathing during the "flush." The stuff that comes out is amazing. I've done it at home by just sticking my head under water, pulling it in, then blowing it back out. Problem is it only gets to the nasal cavity (not the sinuses) and the goo is not as entertaining. Very little blood and pus, mostly just mucous. -
The "Bailout" - Do You Support the $700B - $1.1Tr Package
pirana replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Another way of putting it is that the economy "collapses" into their pocket. They use creative compensation and accounting systems to suck assets out of the industry and into their bank account, then bail under the protection of being incorporated. It really is a sanctioned form of theft. BTW, isn't $2T something like 10 or 15% of our GDP or net worth, or something like that? And if we print up that much debt doesn't the dollar devalue by that much overnight? And wouldn't such devaluation cause people to dump our currency, possibly starting a downward spiral? Just wondering. A serious sized trasnsaction with serious and possibly unpredicatable results. " . . . the lust for power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging them and kicking them into obedience." -- Aldous Huxley

In principle, this really boils down to bail them out, change the rules, and head down the path of protection against future failures; or let the markets rule and the lessons be learned, even if it causes pain, possibly for quite a few people and the economy as a whole. As a practical matter I don't want to get hurt by this either. I'm torn, especially when you introduce the related matters of 1) the heads of the firms responsible walking away with multi-million dollar retirements while our debt grows by $1000's per citizen, and 2) heading down such a socialist path and the implications for personal freedoms. (I want my children to have some, including the freedom to fail). Nationalism; it can be good, and it can be bad. To marshall the efforts of individuals for some common greater good that does not involve crushing others under a bootheel - - all for it. To whip people into a frenzy to the point they are willing to perform aforementioned crushing out of greedy self interest - - very bad. "This will be the most important event in the Himalayan adventure since 1953," Says who? Oh yeah, the hyperbolic author/sponsor. Never mind solo ascents without oxygen, overnighting near the summit, some of the unbelievably heroic rescues that have been made. No, this is going to be the most important Everest event since 1953. Hyperbolic people should have their eyelids glued open and be forced to watch 24 consecutive hours of Geraldo Rivera videos.
