  1. So when she sues your scrooge ass I guess that means her shark gets paid on contingency while yours gets paid hourly. Remember, he who has himself for a lawyer has a fool for a client.
  2. That's exactly what I suggested but he did not like the idea That is the worst advice I have heard yet. The brace is there to protect him in the event of another trauma, no matter how small.
  3. Every dropzone operates under different economics, but I estimate on our DZ a second pass in our King Air would cost ~$2.00/jumper.
  4. I think it depends on what kind of person you are. If your heart aches for every person you read about dying in the paper, then you will likewise grieve for each and every skydiver you read about. For me skydiving fatalities fall into three categories: 1. Friends. I have buried skydiving friends who have died skydiving, and those who have died other ways. There is no difference in my grief. 2. Students. When students go in it bugs me a lot. When I go skydiving I make an informed decision about all the elements of risk involved; when a student jumps there is a large degree of faith involved. I know they agreed to the risks, but it still sucks. 3. Others. I tend to be rather clinical about these. If I don't know this person I try not to expend empathy on them. I used to work in entertainment, doing electrical work. During a gig this often meant leaving the power on while I worked. Reading about all the ways people electrocuted themselves scared me way more than reading about skydivers going in, but I simply do not have the emotional energy available to grieve every industrial accident.
  5. The colts will lose to Buffalo in the first round.
  6. No, because knowledge of the question and the answer are mutually exclusive. The answer to "what is six times seven" is 42. The answer to the meaning of life is not knowable. You need to read your Douglas Adams again, my friend. No! You need to read Adams again. The answer is fourty-two. It is the question that is unknowable.
  7. You could buy USPA. The problem is it will not help you this summer in UK; you will pay twice. The best strategy is to pay your BPA dues on schedule, every year. Once you realize you can't avoid it, your next logical step is to get involved and make it the best association possible.

What about Agent Smith from The Matrix (nice fellow).
  9. Try not to re-gift to the one who originally gave it to you.
  10. Vancouver is in the southwest corner. We have weather like London, but 1000m mountains overlooking the city.
  11. This is not unusual. Funny thing is I've been in several malfunctions and no one was yelling at me during any of them.
  12. How weird is this? Boxing day sales now start on the 25th on-line, but they start at midnight eastern. I bought a new monitor in the boxing day sale on the 24th.
  13. started the original series twice but itnever hooked me. But if it hooks you, enjoy.
  14. A bit off topic, but isn't the min freefall requirement a bit problematic with birdpeople falling at about 30% the speed of the feet up people (neither of which is all that useful for teaching AFF).
  15. What you pay for rent usually reflects the age of the gear. If you are renting a Wonderhog with a clapped out Manta and an FXC, then the DZO paid for this gear a long time ago and is now just covering maintenance. If you get a Vector three with a Sabre 2 or a Spectre and a Cypres then you should expect to pay more. We charge about three times what other DZs in the area charge for rent, but then their gear is usually more than three times as old.
  16. Can you cite a source for that? That number is about 3 times the size of one I usually see. _Am It was a factoid in the paper from Statscan the a couple of days before I posted. I'll try and find the reference.
  17. Not funny. You wonder why the neighbours hate us.
  18. Quote I do feel guilty about not tipping, but now 5 months later not much I can do about it.Quote HELLO?... Tip him already. I received a tip last month from a guy who got his A licence last year.
  19. We charge $25 for packing class and I hate doing it. I takes a minimum of 2 hours for the initial lesson and 40-60 minutes for each pack job after that until they are ready for their test. In Canada a student needs ten pack jobs under supervision as well as tangle staightening ability. This works out to about $2/hr. I tend do do it because I am egotistical enough to think that no one else does it as thoroughly as me. My experience is that many people will help a novice out for free until something more important (a load) comes along. Then they just leave the guy or girl looking forlornly around the hanger for someone else. As far as non instructor-packers teaching, Michel St. Ange from Eloy popped by this summer and taught me how to pack again; I learned a lot.

The short term answer is no they will not. The longer term answer is maybe, with a lot of persuading they will. I don't think this is a quick fix, but rather a long road worth travelling. It will benefit gypsie skydivers and DZO's alike.
  21. Is there a tunnel in Chicago, or will you have to travel? If you're travelling why don't you just go do AFP somewhere sunny? You don't have to be loyal to the DZ where you started. They will understand; If they don't, they suck. I'll bet they will even refer you to a dz in florida to go to if you don't want to wait for spring.
  22. Capitalism versus socialism? Oh Christ, how jingoistic can you get? The french tariff barriers on US gear are no more socialist in nature than the US tariffs on European steel or Canadian lumber.
  23. If you look at the profiles of those who are posting you will see that those who are saying not to tip, do not skydive as their sole source of income. By and large most professional skydivers file their income taxes at a level lower than their clients. Some tandem instructors take you for an adventure, while some hook you up before they exit, and leave you in the field. This is no different than the difference you get from various waiter/waitresses. I had a student this year who is a skiing instructor. His tip from one student was two weeks in Kuala Lumpur followed by a six resort skiing trip to South America. My point is you tip based on what you get, and what you can afford. If the guy doesn't want it, cool, but most will happily accept it.
  24. It cant be more than 25 or 30 there is it (celsius).
