What can I do to be more patriotic?
Andrewwhyte replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
Caution: foreigner response- 1. If you are not registered for one of the two major parties-get registered. 2. Chose a moderate, centrist candidate from which ever party you chose and volunteer your time to ensure that person gets the nomination. 3. Vote. America needs to reestablish its political center more than anything else. Another christian right president will further divide the country; the same is true for a strident liberal. Most Americans I have ever met are moderate in their views. Work to force the political class to represent those views. -
Change in Congress a positive for aviation - AOPA

In Canada the user pay system is not what hurt GA. What hurt is that the exise taxes on fuel were retained and diverted into general revenue at a time when the federal government was struggling with a large deficit (sound familliar). The user fees did not change the way we pay for service, but were an additional tax burden. The truth is that Cessnas and the like pay a monthly fee that amounts to a great subsidy from the 50 hr/year weekend pilot to the commercial 200-400hr/year dz operator. Small twins like a king Air pay a daily rate which works well for a busy operation, but tends to discourage that one friday night load on a cessna-weekday/turbine-weekend dz. -
OK, I've read the review. I think she is right on target.

Evil Plan To Get Rid of All Iraqi's
Andrewwhyte replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
This plan is problematic since Americans don't really have a grasp on what beer tastes like. -

What's the coldest temperature you've ever seen where you live?

I spent the winter in Tuktoyaktuk once. One day I was lying on the ocean working when my superviser brought my parka out. I felt I was warm enough with my insulated coveralls on but he said it was below -55C and I had to wear my parka. The TV people didn't even say "minus." "High today 38, low tonight 46." -
If they are not specifically approved by the manufacturer then they are forbidden since they are part of the reserve deployment system AFAIK. This is similar to Talon's beef with Vigil; you need approval to fuck with a TSOd part.

Skydive Los Cabos requires one. Why don't you check out the dropzones section of this website.

What isit? How old is it? There was a DZ there but the plane went in with the DZO and others last year.

What religion are you? And what does it mean?
Andrewwhyte replied to chigbee's topic in Speakers Corner
Are you also ambivalent about the existence or non existence of the Easter Bunny? After all there is no real evidence that he doesn't exist. The same is true for Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Occam's razor is not the be all and end all for determining truth, but accept the possibility of something for which there is no clear evidence as being more than one over infinity makes no sense to me. -

How do you pack tandems at your DZ ??
Andrewwhyte replied to MotherGoose's topic in Gear and Rigging
Are you sure they are designed to be PRO packed? I would check out the manual if I were you. Bill Booth has stated on these forums that he believes tandem rigs should always be flat. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2022397;search_string=Tandem%20PRO;#2022285 -
Huh? Dude, the reason a pull out is better is because you don't have to fold it! Just grab it on the mesh like you are grabbing a mushroom at the top of the stem, now pull the fabric down so the mesh is protected. Good now your done, stuff it below the bottom flap with the bridal near the bottom right hand corner. Have fun.

The last few times it happened I just deleted it without opening it.

Last year there was a DZ in PV, but they had problems and were closed for a while. When they got opened the word was it was not particularily busy.

In Canada we call Nov 11 Remembrance Day. We also wear poppies for a couple of weeks beforehand. They are sold by donation in gas stations, malls etc. The proceeds go to the Waramps society. It used to be to help war vets who had lost limbs during the wars. Later the focus was more on kids who had had accidents; a lot of effort was on palying safe education. I suppose now the focus will shift back to our war injured.

It's called a rouge, and if you don't like it don't let them get that close. If you repel the barbarians at the gate there is always some damage.

Andrew. I am the younger brother of Peter. I can't imagine where that came from.

There are legitimate arguments about how many football games you ask amateurs to play, especially as the weather gets colder and the injury rate rises (just another reason to pay them in my mind). A large tourney like the 64 team basketball playoff is not feasible. I like Canuck's 8 team playoff myself. I think it could happen a bit later though. I think the big game should take place on Saturday before the Superbowl. It would intensify the havoc that that weekend represents throughout the country and (this is important for the University presidents) would require all the seniors on the four final teams to register for the spring semester. Who knows it may even create one or two more graduates a year.

Getting paid to jump would be cool but be forewarned. Canadian forces commander General Hillier said recently that all new recruits should be prepared to spend three years available for infantry duty in Afghanistan. So if being a real soldier taking part in real wars isn't in your plans, think very carefully. Good luck with your career.

Yah because the Economist doesn't have a bias. Ya right.

An arguement can be made that the ability to vote is what really counts. The most recent Canadian election had a higher voter turnout than the past several elections. The result was to toss the government out. Perhaps it's ok not to vote as long as you are happy with the status quo.
