Skydiving is expensive. There are basically three types of skydiving students: 1) Those who have established their careers and can afford it. 2) Those who make the sacrifices necessary to get it done. These sacrifices particularly affect time with family and friends. 3) People like you who cannot see how they will get it done. First you say you lost your job, then you say you have better things to do with your time than do manifest. I suggest you focus on getting your career on track. Once you do the sky will be there. As you have already learned learning to skydive a little bit at a time is more expensive. Good luck.

Interesting observations. Do you see any (qualitative or quantitative) indication that such perceptions are impacting economic, trade, or military interactions between the two states? Or are the folks with such perceptions not in positions to impact US-Canada relations directly? VR/Marg The underlying anti-US resentment is a constantly waxing/waning dynamic in our relationship that has been present since the revolutionary war. The Pork and Beans war, the War of 1812, the Pig war, the Alaska Boundary dispute, the San Juan crisis, "54-40' or fight"; all these have had an effect upon our collective conciousness. The lumber tariffs of the last ten years has caused a lot more resentment than most Americans realize. Whenever a Canadian dies in Afghanistan there is a real feeling of "What the fuck are those idiots doing in Iraq? Why haven't we mopped up the real war yet?" As far as having any real effect, when Bush met with PM Paul Martin in 2005 he surprised the pundits by bringing up missile defense in his speech. Apparently after that, when Martin explained to him that the Canadian population was having none of it, Bush was incredulous that, "So even if you tell them it is good for them they are still going to be against it?" Economically speaking you would have to look at cross-border tourism numbers over the last ten years. I know several people that say they won't go but that is more to do with the hassle at the border than sentiment. I have not looked at the numbers. There is some sentiment to hurry the pipeline to the coast so we do not have to sell all our oil to the US, but the decision makers in the oil patch are all multi-nationals so local sentiment is of little import.

The same as banning "tag." My real problem with this is that peanut butter is often the cheapest source of protein around. I grew up with several kids who, if there was no peanut butter in their lunch, there would be no protein at all.

TI's and AFFis working very long hours....Your thoughts?
Andrewwhyte replied to humanflite's topic in Instructors
Very true. But at the cost of safety?? Well, if safety was a higher priority then making money would NOT be the top priority now, would it? Safety would be. The truth is all DZOs do care about safety. The question is how do they balance it with economic imperatives. If they took the safest path at all times the aircraft would not leave the ground. If they went for the money with no regard for safety every time they would either have an accident rate that pushed them out of business or they would run out of staff quickly. -
I am assuming this is directly related to the current S. Ossetian conflict? If so, you have absolutely no freaking clue whatsoever what you are talking about -- it's called ignorance. Or, it could be much worse if you know exactly what you are talking about -- then it's called bullshitting... I'm talking about Georgia. According to the Almanac, they're 84% Orthodox. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0107564.html And Orthodox is "christian": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Orthodoxy Now what were you saying about ignorance? John I believe his complaint is with you claiming that Georgia will cease to exist, although I have no idea why it is significant that they are a Christian nation. Do you believe that improves their right to existence?

The drinking age here in Alberta is 18. For the most part I see no difference between it and neighbouring British Columbia (19) or Washington (21). The oil boom nature of our economy affects alcoholism, bar violence etc. much more than the presence of 18 yr olds. On the other hand it is a bit disconcerning when I'm chatting up the cutie at the bar and find out she is still in high school.

How ridiculous is the euphemism "African-American"
Andrewwhyte replied to birdlike's topic in Speakers Corner
America isn't a country. Yes the politically correct do say "African-Canadian," although most of the blacks I know better fir the label 'African.' In a few years they will become "African-Canadian." Their kids will be Canadian. -
Why don't you ask you instructor if you can do a couple of practice rear riser turns and flares on your next jump (don't be discouraged if he has it a little later on the agenda). I teach rear riser flares as an option on my first jump course and have had a first jumper do so. He stood the landing up at 3000' ASL.

Forcing businesses to provide for illegal workers
Andrewwhyte replied to AggieDave's topic in Speakers Corner
So why doesn't Home Depot engage volunteers to check the work credentials of those wishing to enter the shelter. No papers, must not be a day labourer, no entry. Contractors who hire from the shelter, no problem. Contractors who hire outside, INS has probable cause (maybe). -
Question for those who don't believe in a higher power.
Andrewwhyte replied to gonzalesna's topic in Speakers Corner
Although there is no hard evidence as to what it is, there is evidence as to its existence; not conclusive, but some evidence. That is the difference; there is no evidence for God whatsoever. Big difference. -
Very cool but be warned, this thing will make a skyvan seem like the cone of silence. Bring earplugs.

Do extremely religious people piss you off?
Andrewwhyte replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Speakers Corner
Are you saying the bible is not word for word true? Maybe the gospel is like that too. -
The truth is there are a lot of people that I have called friends over the years that I have very little in common with other than skydiving. When one of them leaves the sport, the friendship whithers on the vine. On the other hand I have many friends who no longer jump that I keep in contact with.

Question for those who don't believe in a higher power.
Andrewwhyte replied to gonzalesna's topic in Speakers Corner
Humanity HAD one purpose, to pass down DNA, but with 6.8 billion people on the planet, that's not really all that important right now. So the new purpose is to get the code off the rock. -
Has your AFF/TI work taken the fun out of it?

When the USSR broke into pieces, people only had Soviet passports. When Russia started issuing passports, it gave the opportunity to all Russian nationals to have Russian passports. It so happens that some of them were in Southern Ossetia. And it is always hard to ask someone to leave his/her ancestral land because a border just popped up. What I find geopolitically interesting in these events is that Russia is supporting a breakaway territory. Drive few kilometers to the North-East and you find yourself in Chechnya, where Russia has a slightly different position on the locals' independence aspirations.. Sort of like the Serbians in Croatia and Bosnia.

T-shirts, coffee cups, souvenirs, for the Apocalypse

Well one ship has already sailed. The lady behind me tonight at the supermarket was buying "The idiot's guide to the end of days." I wish I just made that up, but I didn't. -
Question for those who don't believe in a higher power.
Andrewwhyte replied to gonzalesna's topic in Speakers Corner
It is a good question, but the bearded fellow in the clouds stories are foolishness. I am intrigued by the possible explanations, but am only concerned with the ones that have some evidence. The big bang theory has some evidence to support it, the Glooscap tale does not. Yes, organized religion is just that, caveman stories.
