  1. The Mirage and Vodoo pud systems are very bullet proof! what kind of canopy? if you're jumping the smaller risers make sure to take a good look around the grommet.
  2. were the judges FIS rated? was it a recognized competition? that's pretty impressive. although I bet Majik could have done a 44
  3. why would you want to add all that drag for a speed competition?
  4. wow, I've had a bunch -- 100th jump, about 6 miles in a corn field other side of the river. The time the DZO said we could go below the cloud layer or we could land in the altermate area. We chose the alternate area. what he meant to say was AN alternate area which ended up being like 12 miles, people were still coming in an hour after sunset, they decided to do a cross country which put them WAY out. I always follow the theory 1 cow = bad, more than 1 cow = OK. then there was the mal I had and I landed in farmer mcnasty (he threatened to shoot me), the other mal I followed into the many cow area, the time the pilot said, you guys want the GPS spot? sure, why not, that was at least a 20 minute car ride. there have been golf courses, apple orchards, home depots, back yards, shoot we even had an off landing on a demo (that was at least 5 miles around a lake, very bad spot on that one).
  5. I only have two alarms programmed in to the thing (you can do that by setting them equal to each other), I dont' like three alarms. basically, one is break off the other is "do you have something out yet". when I do the canopy manuver I get the siren.
  6. I know skydive DeLand has helped out some very large bodies in the past, you may want to give them a call
  7. yes but we all know the real Majik will be in Chicago.... actaully the only way we saw it was we couldn't jump cause of the smoke and the pilot flew right by it on the way back tothe airport. hmmmm, seems to me some bets are in order for ntaionals
  8. hey Betsy your boys were at Cross Keys last weekend... I think someone pointed out the water tower right near the drop zome that said "catch the magic" on it's side. Well, we thought it was funny!
  9. quick 360 under a canopy at 2:1.... must be some sort of weird burble that forms and sets the bugger off, the first couple of times it scared the crap out of me.
  10. ummm, no, but that would be irritating, I set mine off fairly often under canopy and it can be quite distracting.
  11. LOL, mostly Alex and Jim, I eat better than they do! LOL
  12. right those glasses where you can keep your head straight but keep looking left and right..... oh, right -- the topic -- 1(number of beach jumps we did before realizing it would be difficult to train 4way at the beach -- splash zone was a blast though and we got the best seat in the house for fireworks):28:0 (nope, I never land over the beer line! well, OK, maybe not never, but not last weekend anyway)
  13. team "long-in-the-door"...... actaully the longest part of our climb out is the camera guy getting set back there, the tail (Joe) can't get out until he's clear. I try to close the door after myself, but can't seem to catch it.... plus if we go up another couple of thousand feet more people start farting and it stinks!!!!
  14. yeah, right sure thats the only reason. Andrea on the beach pretending to sleep with binoclulars over her eyes.
  15. depending on the size canopy you jump and the wing loading, I'd say, yes, there could be a safety issue along with the performance necessity (hey, it may be a sretch but something worth considering). (if a bungy PC inflated and distored a highly loaded canopy it could have an adverse reaction on landing...)
  16. yeah well, we still got 28 jumps in over the weekend, but we could have gotten 40, oh well
  17. my first 50 jumps or so were on an FXC 1200 -- hey anyone got a quarter to reset this altitude??
  18. I jump one (actaully one in each rig) because I do hard core 4way and at times i get a knee in the back of the head or something similar. I've gotten hit hard enough to see stars (ok, I admit that's when were were starting out with all this vertical stuff, but I still get whacked now and again -- sucks being the "under" guy at times )
  19. they tried vents with parafoils (accuracy jumpers, pad stompers, etc). these guys are basically coming straight down or close to it. There wasn't much of a difference in their flight characteristics, pressurization, etc. In fact, some people thought they breathed a little to much. these canopies are typically very lightly loaded also.
  20. teflon is a soft material that "cold flows" over a period of time. Meaning, that if you exert some pressure on it, the tendancy is for the material to "give" and not recover it's original shape (which could be bad if it conforms to the white loop or cut away housing). There are additives that are used to improve it's physical properties in that respect (glass, carbon, etc). That may be one reason he (Bill) doesn't like them. Although John Sherman at Jump Shack will tell you why the teflon (there are like 2 or 3 different major grades of teflon, and many different subgroups off of those) is OK to use, too. I think there is an article at their web site about them. When they first came out there were cracks in some of them, but that problem was rectified. I'm not quite sure why he (John) wanted to make the switch in the first place.
  21. that's amazing, it was so clear abouve the smoke, flying back to florida last night it was very cool looking. Of course, it wasn't so cool to be sitting around on Sunday all day knowing there wasn't a cloud in the sky (at least we got the one and only load of the day!
  22. did the stupid smoke finally clear????
  23. my mind is always AT work, maybe not always ON work!
  24. think fantasy, think dress up, think person of the opposite sex (well, for me anyway).... you're significant other shows up one evening and says will you dress up as sexy fireman and show me your hoses later... that sort of thing
  25. so, this sort of came up in another thread.... Have you ever acted out a fantasy by dressing up as something other than yourself and if so what was it? (e.g. cop, cheerleader, tyra banks, etc) animal costumes do not count!
