  1. I guess I'm sort of curious... if the comp Cobalt is head and sholders above the stock canopy in each area, why not just sell it? just wondering out loud I guess.
  2. it might be that there is enough flesh, meat, bone, whatever surrounding the rod that the detectors don't see it. For a while if you had a belt buckle on, you could put your hands over it and it wouldn't set off the machine.
  3. typically the bone isn't stable enought around the break to screw the broken pieces together, They mend together eventually. The rod is there for the structural support (internal cast).
  4. did ya ever think that the packers just may run around naked no matter what is on the door?
  5. I thought that's what the $15 was for at CK's???
  6. that stinking orange jumpsuit of Dougs put funny lines on the picture!
  7. thre are images at: http://www.skeff.com, http://www.4way.org,http://www.skyeyeskydiving.com/index.htm,http://www.freefalladventures.com (click on experienced jumpers, go to the photos section, check out chris norton and Adam rosen photographs, you could also check out http://www.monkeyclaw.com (that site is always good for a laugh.... that enough potential picture links?
  8. that is something you definately need to sit and talk with your jump masters about, if nothing else, but to inform them of the issue. You'll get the advice you need, plus they can put you in a harness and teach you what you need to do.

    Expensive Jump

Oour camera guy has two helmet saves to his credit. One was a few years ago, came off in freefall, gabbed it and held it in his hand and still got some footage. The second was actaully at nationals last year. Came right off on opening, he caught that one on his legs. Pretty slick (luckly for him!). they were both boneheads also, BTW. He seemed to think he didn't have the latch correctly seated. He's still glad to have that VX-2000 though!

    Swoop Cords

that is correct, 4way, 8 way, 16 way, etc way for competitors, if you are going low, the others need to put on weight! to much drag on the front of you (i.e. arms and upper boddy) can cause issues when reaching for grips and in transitions. This doesn't apply to a dive to a stop to a formation and break off type of skydive, there the fall rate versatility may outweigh any other issues. You can buy slip -on sleeves, too, that add drag and help if you need to slow down a little on a bigger way dive.

    4way web site

hey, y'all (I practising my southern speach) interested in 4way, ever check out the site: http://www.4way.org? Its pretty good.
  12. ummmm, maybe, but the winds, updrafts, hail and temperatures involved you dont' want to be involved with...
  13. call Terry Pike he's got some nice machines that he has managed to find over time, he can probably steer you in teh right direction....
  14. OK, for Chris.... I'll start the new thread.... canopy size measurement fact vs reality vs marketing.... who's right who's not, or is there any one way to measure.... It appears that PIA has some definitions. who's following them? from chris: Let me ask one question... How is canopy size measured? (area, square footage...) I look forward to all replies. Sincerely, Chris
  15. so you're saying that there isnt a difference in square feet over your head in flight than laying flat on the ground?
  16. or maybe it was "projected" surface area, i.e. area of the canopy loaded vs. it laying flat??

    Friends

well, at least they put a "do not disturb" sign on you
  18. i didn't mean to imply it was a weight shift at all... but typically, hands out and to the back will pull the rear risers more than arms straight down and will flatten the canopy out more.
  19. LaGuardia is also a possibility.... In order of preference (to me, since I fly up there all the time) Philly (takes about 20 minutes to get to the DZ and is easy drive). Newark (about 1.75 hours depending on traffic) - rental cars cost WAY more at Newark. Laguardia (I used to be able to find cheap direct flights into there, and my ex G/F lives in the city, so it was convenient, but Merojet is no longer and not as many direct flights) BWI (I only flew into there once or twice, it's about 2 hours, plus traffic around baltimore stinks). You could also fly into ABE (bit of a hike) Atantic City (Jet Blue I think goes in there, it's about 45 minutes straight shot). That's all I can think of at the moment -- dont even bother with JFK.
  20. you may have also flattened the glide out more by involving the rear risers to a greater degree than before.
  21. saw some people playing with some new riser contraptions as you described, but they didn't seem to work out to well for one reason or another (the people in question have very easy access to RWS and PD)
  22. actaully I started doing that AFTER school
  23. I can do all that! pick me!!!!
  24. we (well, Shannon and Ian were doing it, I was bored and offered to help) set up a simple course with markers placed 25 feet apart, we used those flags you would use on the back of a bike, they're easy to put up and take down.
