I've always wondered how people can make the jump from "they're willing to rob you" all the way to "so they wouldn't mind shooting you." 3 to 5 for some form of theft is a bit different from 25 to Life for homicide. Quite simply most people run when confronted with a gun, and that is as it should be. No one is going to go into a robbery thinking "he may have a gun, so I'll shoot him first just in case." Anyone who thinks a criminal might actually think that needs their head examined. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

This one make shock you, but I voted 'allow for home defense.' At this point, it would be a huge jump to allow subjects a working gun in the home in case of that lovely new crime: "home invasion." Staring down the double barrels of a twelve gauge would encourage a career change mighty quick. Returning the right to the best means of self defense would be a huge step. See. I told you I've never been a "go for broke" supporter on any issue. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I agree, but have to ask a few questions/make a few points. Like I asked before, was the woman hurt less by the taser than she could have been if the officer had to manhandle her through the exit? Do you agree that every struggle with an officer borders very closely to a lethal force encouter? (cops have to fear gun grabs and being tasered themselves, etc) Do you think taser use is better than baton use for contact struggles? (this was a contact taser, not a wire taser, from what I can tell) Would you justify a 5"3" 100 lb. woman using a taser at lower standards than someone like me? (or lower standards for any level of self defense, including lethal) [personal note] I believe smaller officers should be denied employment, rather than accepting lower standards for them to use force. If a large male could handle the situation with a baton, but a small female used a gun, why hire the small female and face more commn use of force? School Sponsored Reenactor Arrested For Prop Given To Him By School
Kennedy replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
Kallend, any comments on the "Costume Kid" arrest, or the value of DARE (lack thereof)? As to the AZ flag thing, yeah, I think it's stupid to ban flags too, but the policy was set as "no props - zero tolerance." The kids tried to speak out, and were silenced. It's not a huge conspiracy, just one more dose of idiocy from bureacrats gone wild. Maybe someday they'll realize silencing everything ends productive and healthy acts, as well. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Teacher reprimanded for showing F911 in class
Kennedy replied to tunaplanet's topic in Speakers Corner
Ummm.......yeah....... Hey, for all you know, he could have been tearing the logic of the movie apart. And it still wouldn't belong in that class. While it would be an amusing aside, I'd rather kids actually learn logic and critical thinking. Political subjects are not good choices for introductory logic/critical thinking classes. The kids will focus too much on the disagreements in ideology, rather than on the thinking that is supposed to get you there. Non-charged subjects work far better. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Well, there's the difference. I'm a 6'1" 215 lb. male. The responding officer was a woman. Macon, who joined the department almost 18 months ago, remains on duty, said Gregory. The department has received no previous complaints about her performance. As much as I think it's not fair, female use of force is considered to have less stringent requirements than male use of force (due to size, strength, etc.) If some gray haired banshee came at me and I zapped her, I'd expect to be questioned about it. But how big is this Hattie Macon? The woman was within arms reach and struggling. All use of force is somewhat questionable if you weren't there to witness it, but in this case I have no reason to doubt the officer was correct. edit: How much more would the woman have been hurt if Macon tried putting her in cuffs while she was still struggling? Borken wrist? Fractured arm? Busted hip from going to the ground together instead of on her own? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Teacher reprimanded for showing F911 in class
Kennedy replied to tunaplanet's topic in Speakers Corner
It would've been one thing if it was a critical thinking class, or if the social studies teacher wanted kids to know that you can't believe everything on TV. Showing it in math is something entirely different. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
The woman was tresspassing and refused to leave. She was told to leave by a police officer. When she finally got up to walk out, she decided instead to walk somewhere else inside the building. She swung at a police officer. While I'm fairly sure I could have restrained her by hand and then dragged her out bodily, that may have resulted in more injuries than the fall caused. After she took a swing at an officer, the taser may have been the fastest and safest way to end the encounter. By the way, I saw a seventy something attack a young woman. THe girl needed stiches and plastic surgery for her face. Don't think senior citizens can't be a real threat to anyone. ps - I doubt it's all a lie and that the officer is just some bitch on a power trip. I really doubt any officer would use a taser on anyone without some sort of physical threat provoking it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Drug Awareness and Resistance Education (or some similar acronym) It's basically a "drugs are bad, mmmmmmmmkay" class for middle school children. Haven't you seen the goofy "DARE to keep kids off drugs" stickers and confiscated cars? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Just more evidence of an ignorant and apathetic electorate dominated by sound bytes and idiocy to the exclusion of all rational thought. D.A.R.E. is another good example. It has no shown value whatsoever, but no board or administrator will suggest it be put to rest. Why? Parents like it. Why? God only knows, because it's just a waste of my tax dollars. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2004/10/13/musket13.htm That's right folks, a kid with a non-firing replica of a civil war musket was arrested. The best part? He was encouraged to join the club by the school. He has been arrested, suspended, and is now facing charges. Someone, please tell me that the pendulum has gone as far as it can, and will come back towards common sense some time soon. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Andy Have you ever thought about an evacuation "plan" for you and P. in case a fire broke out? I have, and I think you have, too. Does that mean you and I should be accused of planning to evacuate our houses tomorrow? A contingency plan is not the same thing as getting ready to do something. I swear, don't you make me break out the word "nuance." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I took advantage of the comfy seats at the nearest B&N, same as you. I didn't finish the entire book, but I was bored silly for most of what I did read. The reason for that is that I went into the book knowing that Bush earned the points for each year of his ANG service. Yes, he may not have done everything, but he fulfilled his obligations. Facts are powerful things. Spin-doctored stories are fool's gold. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I suppose if you believe that "there's no such thing as bad press," then that might be true. In reality, the only coverage Unfit for COmmand received was to be roundly insulted by most of the media. Tell me, where were the authors invited to speak? WHere were they interviewed? Kitty Kelley was on NBC's Today Show three mornings in a row. Was her book an Amazon and BarnesandNoble.com's #1 spot? Did it spend 4 weeks at the #1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list? The authors were not given a chance to speak on any station other than FNC. Why? Did ABC, CBS, and NBC not think the story was important (aka worth ratings). Well, obviously they thought smearing the book would garner ratings, because they did that up one side and down the other. You don't heat about Unfit Commander because it doesn't do anything new. It's just one more book with questionable facts and a litany of overplayed complaints. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Police Tell Kerry to Stop Saying They Support Him
Kennedy replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, I'm not a cop just yet, but since two departments seem just about ready to give me the good word, I'll chime in. First, I don't think Duece said most cops wouldn't support Bush. He said most individual cops do support BUsh, but their collective bargaining bodies don't. Second, from what I've seen, you seem to be right in that most cops have a more right leaning ideology and most hose jockeys tend to lean left. I don't know, maybe it has to do with the fact that one group has to deal with people in accordance with law handed down by the politicians, and the other just has to fight fire in accordance with the laws of physics. Finally, yeah, who's really suprised that Kerry is claiming something he hasn't earned? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Caesar. His first name is Casesar. Don't ask me to spell the last name. It's just an accent. You should unsederstand that, you're British. You have one of the worst ones out there. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Waiting for the e-mail. Thanks. Bo - Sorry, I doubt that will be as good a read as teh original Unfit book. The Unfit For Command answered questions about Kerry's service. Unfit Commander, by it's own advertising, merely highlights questions about Bush. By the way, there is no need for most of those questions, as Bush earned the points needed to fullfil his service under the ANG regulations of the time. Unfit For Command showed things not pointed out by most news services. All Unfit Commander looks like it will do is repeat over played complaints about Bush's presidency. yeah, so I can't spell witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Do you live in a swing state; and if so, who are you voting for?
Kennedy replied to Muenkel's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, down in Alabama, the winner is predetermined, just like Mass, but now I'm in NJ for a while (and still registered from years ago). Normally I'd say Badnarick without hesiation, but apparently the BUsh people think they have a slightly better than a snowball in hell chance of carrying the state. That's right, the Bush people think they can take NJ. Well, come Halloween and Nov 1, if the state is anywhere near close, I'm going to vote for Bush. OK, moral dilemma for all of you. Let's say you live in a state who's outcome is a given, such as Mass, Bama, or others. Let's say you wanted to vote your principles since it wouldn't hurt the big candidate you despise less. Would you say it's wrong to vote for the big candidate if you suddenly were voting in a swing state? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
