Funny, There were only 10 US pilots participating in the Battle of Britain, and both Hurricanes and Spitfires were made in Britain with British guns. After 15th September 1940 the Nazis abandoned all plans for an invasion of Britain. That's 15 months BEFORE Germany declared war on the USA. Really, the US had no part in defense of Britain before the Nazis declared war on us? Strange. I was just reading an article talking about how Britain was begging the US and its citizens for firearms. I remember metnion of the lend lease act, where US M1 Garands were shipped to Britain. I seem to recall hundreds of personally owned firearms being loaned to Britain for its defense. Besides, I doubt you would claim France would've freed itself without US arms and fighting men. Would a Nazi stamp for crossing the channel sit better with you than a Nazi passport? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

You would choose to be beaten with a bat? Strange choice. I choose to defend myself and those I love with whatever is necessary to ensure our safety. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

So you haven't heard about the case where a fourth grader was suspended for having a polaroid of him, his aunt, and a gun at a range? Details: kid brings in polaroid of what he did that weekend. Teacher sees picture. Teacher freaks out, yells something incomprehensible to the kid, isolates the kid from the class, calls in principle. Principle supports teacher, kid is sent home. Principle's remarks to the press? The kid's aunt in a NRA certified firearms instructor. She wanted to teach the kid gun safety so that if he ever does encounter a gun, there will not be another horrible accident in the news. You know what the kid said when he got home (after he stopped crying)? I thought schools were for education, not indoctrination. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

And was the team canned all together, or did the school pony up the cash for vans and transportation, the way it does for other clubs and teams? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Actually rifle teams were not uncommon to highschools in the recent past. They are disappearing, or alreday gone, from most public schools now, though. Private schools still tend to have them. I was allowed to work with Seton Hall Prep's team, even though I ddn't attend, thanks to connections. Should all competitive sports not performed on school grounds be banned from photos? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Cocaine is illegal all over America. Guns are not. Would you say he should not be allowed to be pictured next to his ATV, just because it's not allowed on school grounds? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Paul, I figured your ACLU supporting butt would be on cboard with this one. I'm all for less lawsuits, but should we just let the administrators break their own policy? Come on John, maybe we should review murder. Afterall, it's been a crime so long, we just need to decriminalize it, and the problems will all go away. You know Kev, I expected a whining liberal to pull that out, not you. (Tuna bite your tongue ) Are you really going to compare draft dodgers to slaves in the US? Does Canada honor one person helping another who is selling him drugs? Does Canada honor one person helping another who is driving getaway for a robbery? Does Canada honor one person helping another who is laundering illegal money? I could go on with my list of felonies, but in my mind none of them are as low as deserting your country when it calls for your help. You call it help, I call it aiding and abetting a felon. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Could a homeowner's gun have saved this woman's life?
Kennedy replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
So, according to you, since England (I said England, not GB, UK, etc) banned handguns to its subjects, your position is that gun crime didn't go up, only the recording methods changed? Sure, whatever helps you sleep at night. By the way, the numbers you posted constitute a large problem. Also, when posting statistics, it helps to tell everyone what they mean. e.g.: reduction over what period of time, from when to when, covering what area, etc. ps - what I saw in your post is that you don't think you're crime problem has gotten any bigger, you were just underreporting it before. Not an improvement. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Well, it's not likely to go anywhere, but it's nice to see congress working on some legislation that will actually bring just a little bit of liberty back to the people. H.R. 3191 will come up for a vote some time in the next week or two. http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:H.R.3193: ***A BILL To restore second amendment rights in the District of Columbia. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the `District of Columbia Personal Protection Act'. SEC. 2. CONGRESSIONAL FINDINGS. Congress finds the following: (1) The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution provides that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. (2) The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the rights of individuals, including those who are not members of a militia or engaged in military service or training, to keep and bear arms. (3) The law-abiding citizens of the District of Columbia are deprived by local laws of handguns, rifles, and shotguns that are commonly kept by law-abiding persons throughout the rest of the United States for sporting use and for lawful defense of persons, homes, and families. (4) The District of Columbia has the highest per capita murder rate in the Nation, which may be attributed in part to local laws prohibiting possession of firearms by law-abiding persons who would otherwise be able to defend themselves and their loved ones in their own homes and businesses. (5) The Federal Gun Control Act of 1968, as amended by the Firearms Owners' Protection Act of 1986, and the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993, provide comprehensive Federal regulations applicable in the District of Columbia as elsewhere. In addition, existing District of Columbia criminal laws punish possession and illegal use of firearms by violent criminals and felons. Consequently, there is no need for local laws which only disarm law-abiding citizens. (6) Legislation is required to correct the District of Columbia's law in order to restore the rights of its citizens under the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution and thereby enhance public safety. SEC. 3. REFORM D.C. COUNCIL'S AUTHORITY TO RESTRICT FIREARMS. Section 4 of the Act entitled `An Act to prohibit the killing of wild birds and wild animals in the District of Columbia', approved June 30, 1906 (34 Stat. 809; sec. 1-303.43, D.C. Official Code) is amended by adding at the end the following: `This section shall not be construed to permit the Council, the Mayor, or any governmental or regulatory authority of the District of Columbia to prohibit, constructively prohibit, or unduly burden the ability of persons otherwise permitted to possess firearms under Federal law from acquiring, possessing in their homes or businesses, or using for sporting, self-protection or other lawful purposes, any firearm neither prohibited by Federal law nor regulated by the National Firearms Act. The District of Columbia shall not have authority to enact laws or regulations that discourage or eliminate the private ownership or use of firearms.'. SEC. 4. REPEAL D.C. SEMIAUTOMATIC BAN. Section 101(10) of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 (sec. 7-2501.01(10), D.C. Official Code) is amended to read as follows: `(10) Machine gun means any firearm which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily converted or restored to shoot automatically, more than 1 shot by a single function of the trigger.'. SEC. 5. REPEAL REGISTRATION REQUIREMENT. (a) IN GENERAL- Section 201(a) of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 (sec. 7-2502.01(a), D.C. Official Code) is amended by striking `any firearm, unless' and all that follows through paragraph (3) and inserting the following: `any firearm described in subsection (c).'. (b) DESCRIPTION OF FIREARMS REMAINING ILLEGAL- Section 201 of such Act (sec. 7-2502.01, D.C. Official Code) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection: `(c) A firearm described in this subsection is any of the following: `(1) A sawed-off shotgun. `(2) A machine gun. `(3) A short-barreled rifle.'. SEC. 6. REPEAL HANDGUN AMMUNITION BAN. Section 601 of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 (sec. 7-2506.01, D.C. Official Code) is repealed. SEC. 7. RESTORE RIGHT OF SELF DEFENSE IN THE HOME. Section 702 of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 (sec. 7-2507.02, D.C. Official Code) is repealed. SEC. 8. ADDITIONAL REPEALS. Sections 202 through 211 of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 (secs. 7-2502.02 through 7-2502.11, D.C. Official Code) are repealed. SEC. 9. REMOVE CRIMINAL PENALTIES FOR POSSESSION OF UNREGISTERED FIREARMS. (a) IN GENERAL- Section 706 of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 (sec. 7-2507.06, D.C. Official Code) is amended-- (1) by striking `that:' and all that follows through `(1) A' and inserting `that a'; and (2) by striking paragraph (2). (b) EFFECTIVE DATE- The amendments made by subsection (a) shall apply with respect to violations occurring after the 60-day period which begins on the date of the enactment of this Act. SEC. 10. REMOVE CRIMINAL PENALTIES FOR CARRYING A PISTOL IN ONE'S DWELLING OR OTHER PREMISES. (a) IN GENERAL- Section 4(a) of the Act of July 8, 1932 (47 Stat. 651; sec. 22-4504(a), D.C. Official Code) is amended-- (1) in the matter before paragraph (1), by inserting `, except in his dwelling house or place of business or on other land possessed by that person, whether loaded or unloaded,' before `a pistol'; and (2) by striking `except that:' and all that follows through `(2) If the violation' and inserting `except that if the violation'. Could a homeowner's gun have saved this woman's life?
Kennedy replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, there's this thing called crime. That's when bad people do bad things. It happens despite our best efforts. And there're these things called statistics. That's the recording and measuring of things. So we study things and come up with crime statistics. Well, England has VERY big problems with crime, violent crime, home invasions, and gun violence. People who inform themselves through sources more reliable than the evening tabliod know about this. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
OK, so I'm a Star Wars dork nearly on par with Ivan. Here's my take. (A) Lucas is an ass for not releasing the original. (B) It's his right to be an ass. (C) Something that created that much of a phenomenon, that deeply touched (scarred?) our culture, DOES qualify as cultural history, just the way many other things do, from manifest destiny to McDonalds and Microsoft. Just because you dont like it, that doesn't make it not a part of cultural history. Whether or not it's worth preserving, that can be argued. I'd say yes. Just look at what congress said about extending the rights to Fantasia indefinitely. So much for the public domain, I guess. ps - at least your high art didn't have a crucifix floating next to it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Do you understand the difference between being scared and being prepared? It is obvious that there ARE some3 people out there that we all should be concerned about. Take the vengeful ex-boyfriend in Jeffrey's example. Also, who is more "scared?" The person who is prepared for possibilities, or the person who is so afraid of society that they think no one else deserves to decide for themselves? Like TomA said, I'm not afraid, but it seems that anti-gun people are afraid of everyone. Don't you get tired of thinking that everyone out there is a wonderful person that means you no harm? After a home burglary in a nice neighborhood and an unprovoked assault and battery in a college town, I hope for the best from people, but I prepare for the worst. Bad people do exist. If you deny me means to defend myself, what would you have me do when I meet one of them? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

I have to go with Jimbo on this one. Advocating that poeple abandon the Rs and Ds is a libertarian thing to do. Advocating that the parties be made illegal is about as far from libertarian as you can get. Libertarians HATE the idea outlawing things because they are dangerous/detrimental. The party platform wants to give people the choice, even if it equates to giving the public enought rope to hang itself. According to your logic, Rs and Ds could both advocate abolishing the Libertarians because they are a threat to national security, the war on crime, etc etc etc. Don't outlaw it, educate people out of it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
