  1. I just don't understand why pictures of underage drinking were ok for the year book, or partial nudity? Hell, even bathing suits are not allowed at the school, but pictures of those have been the yearbook. I just want to know why they thought that one single picture was unacceptable. They hate guns. I don't see anything else to it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  2. Do you really not see a problem with suspending a student for 10 days because his mom put a butter knife in his lunch? I find is disturbing that people responsible for educating children cannot tell the difference between a sandwich spreader and a weapon. Can you see the difference? Can you see why we are upset that children are being treated in such a fashion? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. I meant "to make it not illegal." I think either of those words would work, although "decriminalize" could mean that it is still illegal but the punishment has been reduced, so that is why I chose "legalize." There is a distinct difference in the meaning of those two words, if you care about accuracy in your choice of words. After the amendment was passed repealing alcohol prohibition, liquor was decriminalized. It was NOT legalized. Decriminalization involves taking an illegal substance and moving it to a legal but highly regulated and controlled substance. (e.g. age restrictions, limits on time, place, amount, taxes, etc) Legalization means removing all laws making it illegal and not replacing them - literally making it legal. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. A "none of the above" option would be nice. I'm voting Libertarian for President, Republican for federal level, and varying parties for state through town (no, they're not all at once). eidt: so why is it that when more than two candidates are listed, Nader is the third choice? The standard can't be realistic chances in this election, so what gives? You may as well stick to just Rs and Ds. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. You think that's bad? Take a look at how the FCC gave Nextel consoldated bandwidths. I posted a link to it a few months ago. edit: It made CAGW's Porker of the Month. www.cagw.org witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. You're looking for the word "decriminalize," not "legalize." If you asked decriminalize I'd vote yes. As it says legalize, I voted no. To paraphrase Ben Franklin: Holding to drug laws is like holding a wolf by the ears - you don't want to keep holding on, but you don't want to let go. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. Right, there's a big problem, so we should just ignore when bureaucrats spend $200,000 for a party for themselves. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  8. And I maintain that we are now less afe because with out actions in Iraq, we've given more people legitimate reasons to hate us. A difference of opinion between you and myself perhaps, but that's how I feel. We agree that people have hated the US for one reason or another since at least the 1940s, right? We agree that the US-Mexican border has been, to be kind, porous, right? We agree that Iraq is still the place to be for any newly inspired insurgents and terrorists, right? If so, then what effect does that have on our safety here in America? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  9. And you'd think that after 9/11 we'd fix it -- wouldn't you? If something hasn't been fixed does that make us less safe than four years ago? If you had said something along the lines of "we are not safe," I would have agreed with you. Your stated position is that we are less safe. I just don't see that. We are more aware of how "unsafe" we are, but I contend that knowledge leads to more safety, not less. Which also needs to be secured. You'll get no arguments from me there. It could easily be done if the US military we used in a less... interventionist fashion. There in lays the conundrum. For years the right (Limbaugh for one) has been claiming this huge "liberal" media bias (as if he himself isn't part of "the media") yet if you look at who actually owns "the media" you'll find huge multi national corporations who's interests lean far more to the right than left. I maintain that most individual reporters -try- to be unbiased, disinterested, 3rd parties to stories they report on, but the broader organizations themselves (most notably FOXNews) -can- have a bias in the overall composition of the staff they hire. When you look at broadcast network news, you are, for the most part seeing some pretty honest attempts at journalistic integrity. When you look at cable news, things can get a bit more fuzzy. When you look at some specific cable news organizations (again, I'm going to use FOXNews as the obvious example) there is a concerted effort to skew the news in a particular direction. Now, you might just think this is my biased opinion, but if you do a bit of research, you'll find this is also the opinion of a number of journalistic ethics groups. Does that make my position a bit more clear? Is the memo sent out at ABC unbiased and disinterested? Do you really think the Washington Times and the LATimes are central, or unbiased inj politics? If you believe those things, why is so called right wing radio so successful? Why has FoxNews become a giant in a previously dominated market? If reporters are unbaised, why do they always seem to get the same facts wrong? If reporters are unbiased, and sources you say are biased are successful, why haven't sources to the left of major media been produced? Could it be that the left side of things has been the sole view point, and people leaning right, or wnating to hear the other side, have a slimmer choice of sources? If ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN all report the same thing, they splilt viewers four ways. If FoxNews is the only station to offer another take on the story, then they don't split with anyone. That being true, if the station you call unbiased are in fact neutral, then someone would create an instantly booming left wing new station, right? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. But Vinny, haven't you heard? Slogan: "Every victim deserves to have their story heard!!" exception: (but not if they are white or don't lean far enough left) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  12. Paul, what makes you think the same thing hasn't been happening for years, and that it's a new thing under Bush? The southern border is about as leak proof as a rusty sieve. Besides, even if we managed to somehow secure the US Mexico border, there is nothing stopping people from just walking across the US Canada border anytime they please. ps - was it you or Bill who insisted that the political views of upper amnagement doesn't affect the operations of news outlets (in response to statistics that most news sources have liberal managers)? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. Problems with your vision: (A) Bush receives more votes from hispanic and latino voters for not getting tough on immigration (bad for country, good for candidate) (B) Security on the southern border has been a joke for thirty years or more. This is nothing new. Look at the ranchers and residents who have had to form armed groups for their own protection. (C) etc etc etc blah blah blah I predict your vision won't come true. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  15. It's been shown CBS the place to SeeBS, and now ABC is making itself look like A Bunch of Crap, showing bias all over the place. If the majority of news sources are baised left, just because another source doesn't lean left, is the only option that they are right leaning? Being to the right of major news outlets does not necessarily equate to being right of center. Keep it in mind. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  19. Solid Scottish base. Significant German. (~1/4) My family has been here since before the Revolution, with touches of new nationality here and there. That includes more Scottish blood, some Irish, and a little French - but we don't like to talk about that. 20. That would work for me. (in fact, I may have to look into it for myself). As long as they can understand me and I can understand them, I'll take what I can get. I still don't see why they make it illegal for somebody to open up a place like "Ray's Tooth Shack" of orthodontics. If people are willing to go and pay, why stop them? Medical costs are artificially inflated to the point that the legislature creates its own health care crisis, then screws up the remeedy. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. Actually, Virginia has been doing all right in the area of gun rights. The state legislature has taken serious, active steps to recognize and respect gun uses, gun ownership, and gun owners. It's the towns and villages that you have to watch out for. (Wilmette, anyone?) Falls Church is a nicer suburb of the DC greater metro area. Apparently gun hysteria is contageous, because the closer you are to DC gma, the more rediculous the ideas become. It's just more of the "people don't cause crime, guns do" and the "we're from the government, we're here to help, and we know what's best" attitude that pervades so many cities. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  25. The student was "accusing" the teacher of liking Bush. That is the wrong tone for a student to take. The teacher should have responded "George W. Bush is our president, and he deserves to have his picture next to all our previous presidents. Other questions belong in essays or social studies class." Anyone claiming Kerry should be up there is beyond reason (and possibly beyond help, as well). Until January, Bush has the last picture on the wall. Maybe January '05, maybe January 09, but either way, Kerry is not our president, and so does not belong there any more than Trent Lott belongs there. A teacher should be exaulted for not preaching political views in the classroom, not expelled from the building. Schools should practice EDUCATION, not INDOCTRINATION. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
