I understand now. That's a very different case. I'd still have reservations about using one for hunting or defense purposes. I do like the idea of shot flying like a slug and then dissipating energy on impact. That's why I used PolyShok IRP rounds. They recoil like buckshot, hit like a slug, but only penetrate like birdshot. They were also accurate. I could print cloverleaf targets from 75 yards with an unimproved 870. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

My biggest gripe is that they can't be used for training on even mildly windy days unless you can train inside. Their low mass and low energy means a light and variable can send your rounds curving in a way that would make MLB pitchers green with envy. Other than that, they're great. My best time with them was low light training. We shot each other up for three days straight. It really teaches you how to stay alive in a house. The helmet was annoying because it deadens sounds, but the training was invaluable. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I've seen them used for cowboy action competition targeting balloons or paper. I've seen video of them being fired in basement ranges. I've heard of idiots doing fast draw and shooting each other (with no lasting injury). I really doubt you're going to fix a wax bullet able to bring down deer, let alone hogs. Resin may be another story, but I wouldn't chance it. I'd also suggest checking laws where you're considering hunting. I can see it being against the law. It just seems likely to maim the animal. The only personal experience I have with anything close is simunition. It's plastic with colored soap powder inside. It's used for professional "paintball" force on force training. It's useful because it's fired out of real firearms (smaller barrels and charges). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

He is a soldier and he has sworn to protect the constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. The enemies of the constitution at present are domestic and they are within the office of government. The President is a traitor, he lies to us all and should be impeached. So should the assholes that were making Swiss cheese out of the reporters that were simply taking photos, while laughing about it. I suppose they were hero's in your book? If there was any such thing as justice, Bradley Manning would receive a full pardon and all the war criminals would be punished to the full extent of the law. Unfortunately it seems as if neither of those things will ever happen. He is being used as an example. Did he try anymore the legal ways of reporting what he saw as illegal conduct? Did he talk to investigators, superiors, or congressmen? No. He went to some asshole. Did he only expose what he saw as illegal conduct? No. He spilled every secret he could get his hands on. That's not blowing the whistle. That's breaking every oath he ever took. Oh, and that "enemies foreign or domestic" bit? You may want to consider the entire text. I guess you, like Manning, forgot about the obeying orders and following the UCMJ parts. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Why did Obama call the fort hood shooting workplace violence?
Kennedy replied to toolbox's topic in Speakers Corner
Bill, I don't think anyone would say Fort Hood can't be called workplace violence. The problem is when you classify it that way, you're not just calling it workplace violence, yore saying that is the most important descriptor. Imagine a scenario: a person gets a job as an EMT. He makes an OKC ANFO explosive and puts it in the back of his ambulance. He picks up his paramedic, rides to the scene of a shooting just outside a military base. He sees lots of police, fire, emts, soldiers, and bystanders. He detonates his bomb, killing 150 or so and wounding the same number, and doing millions in damage. So, this could be called a crime, a bombing, murder, an attack, workplace violence, terrorism, and any combination of the above. However, when the FBI classifies it, what category do you think they'll use? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

At least it's better than accusing and convicting rape victims of adultery unless they have four male witnesses. Bullets, Bandaids, and Badguys aplenty, but no Beans
Kennedy replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
So, this doesn't seem to be a matter of saving money. Who should be the last ones left to turn out the lights, actual marines who can defend themselves against insurgent attacks, or the cooks? Don If the camp were closing within weeks, I'd say that explanation works. But since Leatherneck/Bastion/Tombstone isn't going anywhere anytime soon, I don't see the value in feeding troops trench-quality slop. It's bad enough to eat it at remote outposts. Serving it at one of the main bases in the country is not reasonable, long term. The good news for folks stationed there is that they can still get people food other times of day. Relying on only MREs for sustenance is a very unpleasant endeavor. MREs are not your friend unless starvation is the only other option. Kennedy replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
He does kind of have a point there, at least. If they're talking about hate speech, it's valid (correct me if I'm wrong, but hate speech is not protected under the 1st, yes?). If he's just trying to make people stop saying bad things about Islam, it's not. Fighting words, inciting violence, and fomenting armed rebellion/overthrow are not protected. Most everything else is. Profanity/vulgarity toe the razor's edge. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

The drawdown diet: Marines steamed by loss of hot meal at Afghanistan base I'm all for efficient spending and waste reduction, but this is insane. Have they forgotten that morale starts in the mess tent? That an army marches on its stomach? All the other cliches covering how important food is to somebody giving up everything else? Ok that actually made me laugh out loud. How can you ask others to provide data when you won't? How can you ask others to refute your claims when you do nothing to support them? Do I need to? If you want anyone to take you seriously, yes. That's how science works. You've shown no such thing. QuoteDo you want me to go back in time, set up some WX stations and compare the data from subsequent years? There is probably a very good reason they do not have verifiable results data. The problem is the politicians don't agree with the professor. They ARE pushing idiotic bans that have no effect on gun violence, mass casualty incidents, or any other reasonable goal. If they focussed on just the laws kallend is suggesting, they might actually accomplish something. Instead they just keep giving the NRA more ammunition.
