NSA collecting phone records of millions of Verizon customers daily

I fail to see where you were concerned with verification of the "facts" provided in the Guardian article. So it's okay to accept a reporter's word at face value, but not the word of someone actually familiar with the program being discussed, right? Like I said, it's tin-foil hat time. The article in the guardian prompted a response from the White House, DCI and DNI, and Sen Feinstein and other "read-in" congresscritters. There's no doubt the software named and programs described exist in the intelligence community. The only question is how accurate the specifics were. Some were a little too Hollywood, and they're backing off a bit, but the substance remains substantially unchanged. When it comes to DNI talking points, well, he's allowed to lie to congress even in closed hearings if POTUS oks it, so his comments to the public should always be well-seasoned. Or maybe you believed that carnivore never existed, and they never eavesdropped on American phone calls. I've got a bridge to sell you. Great location, recently updated, heavy traffic. Just privatized. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
I'm just glad it's not likely to be a sweep. Nobody wants a four game final series. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Apparently it's fifty or more companies. Of course Google CEO and CLO are denying it. ETA: Apple and Facebook have also come out and denied it. As they deny it, lets keep in mind things like Sprint. You know, the company that was required to hire Admiral Mullen (ret) as their new Security Director in order to get federal approval. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

What? China, lying to the world? Nooo! Say it isn't so. They'd never to that. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Holy crap, they're going to OT! Did not think they'd pull that out of their collective ass. Way to win the face off and punch it in kings. I just don't know what the hell #7 was doing not clearing out in front of the crease. The problem is not just the original patriot act. The problem is that it has constantly been expanded, both by agencies stretching and congress broadening the law. NSA Prism program taps in to user data of Apple, Google and others Not only was the patriot act renewed in 2012 under president Obama, they also passed the Fisa Amendments Act in December 2012. Couple that with the scary parts of NDAA 2012 and other laws in the last four years, and it isn't a pretty picture. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

My worry is not ex post facto criminalization. My concern is disparate treatment based on uncontrolled bureaucratic discretion without any true legislative oversight or reasonable recourse. You seem comfortable living in a surveillance state. While I know nothing will ever be forgotten ever again, that doesn't mean we have to accept or advocate out government doing. I've never been one to sit happily while someone says "if you have nothing to hide them you have nothing to worry about." Generally preceded by "I'm from the government; I'm here to help." ETA: Maybe the even the FISA court agreed with me. How about the fact that you may have just pinged because you typed a whole set of double ungoodthink words? And seeing that I down time with curious and educated minds, I occasionally look up things they'd frown on. Yeah, I looked up (and found) AQ's Inspire magazine. I read about the Feds loosing a half ton of explosives because they weren't following their own guidelines. I spend time with a few EOD guys that, if not friends, are at least respected associates. I helped a postgrad with his work on encryption and wireless communication, specifically as it relates to intercepting and decoding signals from a ground station to remote vehicles. (Overriding them was specifically not covered, and while not a simple expansion, it's not a huge leap either) I've had interesting conversations with far smarter and more experienced people than me about vulnerabilities of people and places. Even the secret service can only do so much, and nobody else in this hemisphere has that level of protection. Oh, and just for those nameless faceless ones, jihad holy war revenge great satan homeland bombing attack kill murder Americans president target revenge Allahu Ackbar. And FYI there are four or five billion google searches a day. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

I am saying there was no declaration of war, that is it. If you are going to call me full of shit. Then explain. Is it your contension that every military action and hostility conducted by the US military since 1945 has been unconstitutional? Should every service member in every service in every war and action since August 1945 have refused orders and broken oaths? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Carnivore was Janet Reno's pet project. I always wondered if Carnivore was just a smoke-screen to draw attention away from something else they were working on. You're behind the times. Speaking of wrong team, it's been so much fun watching Jagr and the3 Bruins stomp the Pens. I mean, thanks for finally showing up and making a game of it, but the pissing and moaning got real old real quick. I have to admit by the end of regulation I was hoping Chara would turn around and deck Iginla. Also, I wish the refs had let Lucic knock Cooke the fuck out. Those two need to have it out. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Nope, you gave me an example of a general in charge of a missile defence program.. I am talking about the Iraq war, Manning was in Iraq. Regardless of what dodgy legislation has been passed that makes the invasion somehow legitimate, there was still not declaration of war. That is unconstitutional Your style of argument makes me think I've seen you here before, with a different log on name. Could that be possible? I don't know that I'd call flinging poop like a rhesus monkey a "style", but yes, he does seem familiar. Better grammar though, so I doubt rhys, DD, or the rest of the usual nanothermite crowd. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Let's pretend he had evidence of murder on that video. Let's pretend that reporting up the chain wouldn't have worked. Let's pretend reporting it to military investigators or congressional representatives wouldn't have worked. Let's pretend the only way to blow the whistle on the crime was going outside (reporters, wikileaks, whatever). If all that were true, I could see his reasoning for exposing the evidence of murder. What possible reason could he have for exposing every other piece of classified material he got his hands on? He swore an oath to protect that material. Is it right or wrong to break an oath? Is it right or wrong to expose things that your promised to keep secret if it doesn't clear a serious crime? I still haven't heard anyone give a good reason for exposing hundreds of thousands of classified videos, photographs, and documents. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

There is not question whether he broke the law, the question is whether it was necessary or not. How many times do you want me to say it? As we've pointed out, there were legal ways to blow the whistle if he had legitimate concerns. Since he had legal options available, breaking the law was clearly NOT necessary. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
