  1. Then you dhould be jumping up to support the law, not celebrating that it was killed with a veto. Which worries you more, a drunk carrying on the street, or me sipping a soda at your bar while watching the band? (carrying concealed) Currently, it is illegal to carry in a bar, but not illegal to carry drunk. The law that died would've made it legal to carry into restaurants and bars, but illegal to carry while drinking. Which makes more sense? Do we ban driving to bars, or driving drunk? You're also ignoring places like restaurants, clubs, and the like where the majority of people aren't there for drinking. Those places are off limits as well, until reform is passed. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  2. I gotta admit Kallend, that one made me laugh. Very good. I don't see more rights for the people in those decisions. I see the federal government granting itself more powre to deicde what rights people have. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. Not at all. If all you are doing is speeding by a few miles an hour, I doubt I'd have any problem with your driving. It's the maniacs swerving in and out of lanes, cutting people off, and flooring the gas then jamming on the brakes that I take issue with. If you're one of those, then yeah, I wouldn't like you much on the road. My time saving is not better than yours because it happens faster. It is better because it is safer. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. Stop serving him beer. The best answer is call the cops, but this situation has nothing to do with the law in question. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. That doesn't change with or without the law being vetoed. Drinking in a bar and carrying would be a law either way. And the answer to his irrelevant question is as simple as it is obivous: let the cops handle it. There's a reason people call them Criminal Protection Zones, or Victim Disarmament Zones, rather than Gun Free Zones. Maybe the best name would be Legally-Owned-and-Used-Gun Free Zones. Do you think a person with a concealed carry license is going to be the one causing a shootout? Or is it the fringe scum who is already packing in your favorite bar, regardless of the law? Afterall, we've thoroughly established that licensed pistoleros are far more law abiding than the general public. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. Do you really not see a difference between a person speeding in one lane on open highway and someone else weaving in and out of rush hour traffic? The point was I save two hours and barely raise the risk of personal injury at all. They save fifteen seconds, and threaten everyone around tehm with death and dismemberment. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. OK, maybe the first wasn't the most relevant, just the easiest example. How about the fifth, though? Remember, in Japan they have something like 95% of suspects that "offer" an admission of guilt. http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050426/us_nm/court_guns_dc_3 witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  9. Between liabilty insurance and the amount of collateral damage that results from a chase, it's not completely uncalled for. However, giving criminals notice that "if you run, we won't chase" is asinine. There need to be limits, but an outright ban is not the best idea. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  11. The justification used in the article for vetoing the bill amounts to basically lies. False. A careful reading of Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 13, Chapter 31 shows no law prohibiting carrying while intoxicated. They won't let you carry in a restaurant even if you don't drink, but I can find no law against carrying drunk. Someone please tell me why a sober person carrying in a restaurant that happens to serve drinks is a problem. More dire predictions with nothing to support their assertion that Arizona would somehow be different from other states that have had no problems. That's an outright lie. Any property owner who doesn't want to allow carrying in his establishment merely needs to tell people or post a sign saying so. How could they be "adversely affected" when they still ahve full rights to control their property? Again, it is in no way dangerous because property owners are not required to allow carrying. If they don't want people to carry, then that is the end of it. I suppose Mr. Isaacson hasn't bothered ot educate himself to the fact that multiple victim shootings happen far more often in "gun-free" zones than in unrestircted-rights zones. He also hasn't bothered to research concealed carry license holders, as they are far more law abiding than the average public, and in some places they are more law abiding than police officers. Besides, the law breakers are already carrying into Arizona bars and restaurants. It's only the people who aren't a threat that are barred from carrying. I suppose I shouldn't confuse them with the facts; they've already made up their minds. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  12. You have to remember that "first amendment" rights are a felony in some countries. It makes sense for a sovereign nation to consider the action involved in the crime rather than the criminal defintion a foreign court places on that action. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. I regularly take long roadtrips. We don't stop for anyhing but gas. There are usuall three zeros in the mileage. At those distances, every single mile/hour that I can gain is a significant amount of time. My last trip was 962.09 miles, each way. I had to take that drive both ways with no significant stops other than a long dinner at Cracker Barrel. If we use 1924 as the trip length, and 65 as the legal speed limit, speeding by just five miles an hour saves me 2.12 hours. (29.6-27.48) Speeding by fifteen for half the trip and five the other half saves me almost four hours of driving. However, idiots who weave in and out of traffic on their daily comute are ... beyond words I really want to to use. They're murderers, as far as I'm concerned. They intentionally place their life and the life of everyone else on the road at risk so they can waste gas and save a minute or two on the wa home. I haven't the words. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  14. Some people just can't, don't, or won't understand why "prior restraint" gun laws are idiotic. If everyone thinks drinking and carrying are a bad idea (does anyone not think so?), then doens't it make more sense to make it illegal to carry while intoxicated? Why outlaw carrying in bars, restaurants, clubs, and such? We don't outlaw going to a bar or restaurant and dribing, do we? No. We make it illegal to drive drunk. Is it so hard to see the simple and logical difference? I guess it is for people against gun ownerhsip. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  17. I don't know what they can really claim to stand for anymore. First amendment? Speech? Nope. Religion? Yeah, right. Second? Bah, they still cling to that ridiculous "collective rights" idea. I suppose they ought to go from American Civil Liberties Union to the American Criminal Litigators Union. Not original, I'm sure, but does seem like it more and more often. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  19. Gee, there's an idea. Update and work with the system we have (rather than go with those outlandish ideas like "fine him $1,000,000 if he hires them). If we really need them, let's find a way for them to be legal. Then it would be even easier to crack down on ilelgals. Intead of this hypocritical BS about amnesties and open borders and shady deals, we could have a system that allows the immigration we want or need, without going overboard either way. Or we could take kallend's approach and just keep posting more crap about "Shrub vs the Dims" and "Slick Willy vs the Cons." Doesn't anyone else get sick of the idiotic "strawman" posts? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. Depends on the state (and the country). I believe in California even illegals can do it... 24. The sad thing is I had several more articles from that very same day; all just as easily torn apart, all just as ridiculous. This one really peeved me: http://www.thesentinel.com/285364623414684.php I did enjoy reading this one, though: Gun Controllers: A Specious Species witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. What's abiguous about that? Does that phrase "states' rights" mean anything to you? For the umpteenth time, I am a Libertarian, not a conservative. I hold fairly conservative values, but believe very strongly in a libertarian government. You just happen to see me arguing against one side's hysteria more often than the other. There are plenty of folks on dz.com lining to bash "right wing" antics. Like you, for example. Honestly prof, if you just take off those pinko-tinted glasses once in a while, we could get past this left-right idiocy and talk about legal, constitutional, or right and wrong. Or we can continue on with these Shrub vs sKerry posts. edit: I don't see liberals or conservatives as my opponents or this thing ideological opposites. The people I can't agree with, and don't want running the government, are socialists and communists. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
