  1. Same here. I would have no problems having to pull a chop at 1000. Under 700 though, and depending on the mal, I'm probably going to keep the main and fire the reserve. Hopefully I'll be able to pull off a canopy transfer, but if nothing else I'm going to get as much fabric over my head as possible. Out of 3 reserve rides though, the lowest I've been in the saddle on a reserve was 1500. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  2. The Heatwave isn't a good choice for a first main, it definitely is in the same class as a Stiletto. I used to own one. For 9-cell, look into the Sabre, Sabre-2, Hornet, Lotus, and Pilot. For 7-cells, check out the Spectre & Triathlon. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  3. Bah. *despising you* Bring me back some sand, biotch! I'm gonna go cry in the frigid corner now. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  4. Yup, I love that one, too. Another favorite of mine is when they ask, "If the reserve doesn't open, how long do you have until you hit the ground?" My answer, "The rest of your life." Then I steer things towards more probable scenarios that they need to worry about. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

  8. Absolutely. Okay, we must also have a new rule on the use of inflatables. I think I've gotten nailed on every one I've done and only 2 came back uninjured from the first, last one, & only that I was on at WFFC 03'. I got my bell rung quite well. New rule: Don't hurt your friends.

  13. You have an entrancing kiss~ the kind that leaves your partner bedazzled and maybe even feeling he/she is dreaming. Quite effective; the kiss that never lessens and always blows your partner away like the first time. Who wants to be entranced? Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

  16. This has already been covered here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=795631 RWS did the recall after finding one (and only one) instance. It only affected 40 rigs and was unlikely to have happened to any others. As far as how some SB's have been handled in skydiving by manufacturer's in the past, I think RWS did a damn fine job on this one. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

  18. You know....I had to know where all of these questions were coming from so I looked at your profile....theoretical physicist. That definitely explains it. As for the question, there's no real way to answer it. Different people want different things out of their skydiving. Myself, I have always been fascinated by the concept and had to try it for myself. Now I have my GTi and I couldn't be happier. I still love to freefly and I'm still working on getting better at high-performance canopy flight, but now I have one more thing I enjoy doing. I think my answer made as much sense as the question. 19. I'm sure of it. In 130-ish+ sit-fly jumps on my custom Mirage G3 UNISYN I've never had my leg-straps loosen on me. Even through transitions, etc... My second-hand Talon and a Javelin I borrowed for a while required a bungee, but not my Mirage. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  20. You know, Remi....I have some ideas for the name of that plan. The problem is....who's going to distract Merrick so someone can pull it off? Who do we know who would be audacious and foolhardy enough to actually try it and get pictures? Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  21. Well, there were pretty much two factors on this one. First, the spot was a bit long, but looked workable. Second, the winds at altitude had changed on us as well. Instead of the straight south push we were given, it turned out that it was more WSW at altitude and I spent my canopy flight just trying to crab in so that I would stay parallel to the airport and the available open fields. If I wanted to go ENE I could have made it past the airport with no problems except I would have landed in a canyonous area. It was simply poor planning combined with being horny for a jump. Generally, at this stage in my wingsuit progression, I take my spot about 3/4-1 mile further than the regular spot. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  22. I lost the right bootie on my GTi this Sunday on exit. It definitely wanted to spin on me. At first, I couldn't tell what was wrong, but a split second later I was able to feel that there was no tension on my right foot and I could feel the wind on it. I balled up and popped back out into arched flight to counter the slow spin and was able to get flying stably by leaning to the side a bit with my hips and countering with my upper body, when I tried to de-arch to get some speed I started getting wobbly again so I kept a bit of an arch, did a practice pull to make sure there would be no surprises, and continued on as best I could. My speeds never dipped below a 92 average on the entire flight, but that was as slow as I was able to get. My forward speed was nothing though, as I was barely covering ground, probably because I was arched. Deployment on my Stiletto at 5K was as perfectly stable & on-heading (knocking on wood) as the previous 4 jumps I've put on the suit. I've started sitting myself up as soon as I feel the snatch force, on this jump and the one before, and I didn't get swung nearly as much. I landed off the airport but a friend on the jump was there quickly in his truck to pick me up. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
  23. 0:3:0 Did a jump on my BirdMan GTi today and lost a bootie on exit. To say things were interesting would be an understatement. It took me a bit to find the right balance but by then I was hosed. The uppers were cranking close to 50 so we took the spot just over 3 miles out from 11K. I got the suit under control by just above 9 and was able to put a little speed on around 8K. My friend Cody was doing his first BM jump on a Classic we were able to borrow and he left me in the dust. I ended up opening about 2 miles short and it seemed that the winds had really died up above 3K as well since I wasn't getting back near as fast as I wanted, but they were definitely screaming (15-20) below that. On top of that, there were plenty of high-tension wires in the area I had opened up over and also in between me and the DZ. I decided to play it safe & hike so I slid in over a big alfalfa field and put it down in the center. Cody pulled up in his truck as soon as I made it to the road. The new kid on his first jump on the Classic made it easily back to the airport. Punked by a 17 year-old on an FX and on his first BM flight. 25. You are be correct. Unless, in the rare chance (which I doubt), he might be jumping somewhere higher than 4300 above sea level. I don't think there's too many places that you can do that at. Anyone know which DZ has the highest field elevation? Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
