That's a damn shame. Growing up used to be so much more fun that it is now. I don't know how many times I had the muffler welded back onto my 74 convertible bug. 10 people in a bug (top down) is hell over the bumps....lol. Never lost anybody though. When a woman goes back to a man who has beaten her in the past, and he beats her again, two things have happened. 1) She went back....maybe she is not a "self-respecting woman" as he calls her, and 2) He beat her again. Which of those two offenses is more criminal? Each is responsible for her/his actions, but HIS actions are definately the violent actions. Regardless of where she lives, HE should not beat her. By the time a man starts hitting a woman, she has usually been beaten down mentally pretty significantly. If there are children involved, he has MUCH more likely than not threatened to take them away from her. Since her self-esteem is in the pits, she certainly believes he has the power to do that. Even if she does keep the kids, by the time she decides to leave, she USUALLY has no support system left, because before he ever starts beating her, his jealousy has usually put an end to her significant friendships. She is typically financially dependent on him, and has no idea how she will support her children without him. There's a lot more to domestic violence than "any self-respecting woman" wouldn't go back. I don't feel compelled to protect adults from themselves in most circumstances. In the example of someone wanting to do something that's just over his/her head, I'd feel compelled to guide that person in a better direction if I were able, but if that person's bound and determined, then it's on him. I know one person who learned to skydive by being thrown out of the plane with a rig. No first jump course involved. Do I think it's stupid? Of course. Is he grown? Yes. His choice. I think where the rules come in is to protect the dz, gear manufacturer, gear store, employees, etc., in case of a law suit. THAT's why sometimes educated adults should not be allowed to make their own decisions....to protect THESE people....not the dumbass with 50 jumps trying to jump the little bitty Xaos. And if you're truly going for comfort, my thang on the sly has an Electra Glide (electric ride....lol). Comfy. But I am particularly fond of my new Dyna Wide Glide, despite its lack of cruise control and CD player...lol. I also had an Intruder several years ago. It was a pretty nice bike too, and MUCH less expensive than the Harley. But honestly, and I'll have to admit my vanity here, I REALLY like the attention I get on the Harley...lol. I couldn't go back. BWAAAAhaha.....ummm....I don't do chicks....lol....but I could use a WIFE! Someone to clean the house and look after the young'un while I'm at work.... I'm gonna be a family doctor in the small town that I grew up in. It's a pretty rural south Arkansas town with a population of about 5,000. My son and I moved back here when my husband and I separated last year. It's a 45 mile commute from here to my residency program. And Rantoul....I THINK I'll be able to come. My divorce and custody hearing date is July 12th, and I'll have to take a couple days off for that. I will have just started residency, and there's a potential problem getting off again, even for a couple days, for Rantoul. But I'm gonna try. Yeah...so you and I went to Moss Point the summer after my first year. I was in Tim's way when he got hurt. I remember sitting there on my knees next to him and having NO IDEA what to do. Amazing how much I've learned in the 3 years since then. There have been some really difficult personal times in the past few years too. I think everything is looking up now. So today I finished medical school. Graduation's a month from tomorrow. I'm 39 years old and have a total of 25 years of formal education....can't imagine what I did with the other 14.....guess those few years of work here and there added up...lol. It's weird to imagine being out of school for good, but the day has come. So HIGH FIVE! Here's to finishing medical school. I just checked - we'll be using a mix of sport and cruiser bikes from 250 up to 550 in our class. Three day class, damn.... I'd like a cruiser - just checked out the vulcan, I like the way it looks, but I'd have to sit on it. I would NOT pay money for a Rebel. A small V twin would, imho, a much better choice than a bike with that little bitty single cylinder engine.
