I'm wondering if this is kind of a small town and if he really HAS offended quite a few people. I mean, if he can't put his clothes on so that the neighbor's little girl can play outside (of course she CAN play outside, but I doubt that many parents would let her), then he has been a bit of a nuisance, I'd guess. Keep your pets out of other people's yards. It's mean to shoot a cat, but it's plain rude to expect that other people should have to put up with your pesky critters. Just like I don't expect the neighbors to love my child, I sure as heck don't expect them to love my pets. Don't let your dogs keep the neighbors awake all night, and you'll find you have nicer neighbors. Don't let your cat kill the neighbor's fish, and you'll find you have nicer neighbors too.... Yes? Here in my little part of the world, there would simply be no sympathy by neighbors or the police if my cat was in my neighbor's yard when all of this happened. As much as I love cats AND dogs, I've learned that the only way to keep them safe is to find a way to keep them on your property. People simply don't like other people's animals in their garbage, climbing on their cars, fighting with their pets in their back yards. Seems like there's a recurring theme in life about moderation. I think there may be something to it.... I like a good steak, but eating one for every meal will certainly give me heart disease. While I agree with parts of your rant, I think you could find a very good reason to pull MOST of our medications off the market. Just a few... Birth control pills--much higher risk of pulmonary embolism (high rate of mortality) Allegra--may cause arrhythmias, cardiovascular collapse, seizures Albuterol--may cause QT prolongation, hypertension, hypokalemia ACE Inhibitors (antihypertensives)--may casue renal failure Beta Blockers (antihypertensives)--may cause congensive heart failure Pepcid--may casue seizures, AV block Statins (cholesterol lowering)--can cause pancreatitis and rhabdomyolysis. Most of our medications (like COX-2 inhibitors) do much more good than harm. I don't know why people shouldn't be allowed to make informed decisions about whether the benefits outweigh the risks for themselves.... -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Nope, I'm thinking of Splenda. I like the stuff, but not everyone can tolerate it. I'm pretty sure its on the warning labels too. But generally, there are only problems if you eat mass quantities of the stuff, you know, like a pound of gummy bears? kinda like if you eat mass quantities of grapes, plums, or just about any fruit. Most of us have a malfunction every once in a while. Learn what to do when that happens. Know how you'll respond and be prepared for that scenario. Your AFF instructors will teach you how to deal with malfunctions. Pay attention and practice. Ask questions. That's the best way to boost your confidence, imho. that's great you want more, but why is it a lot of women don't think they've "made something of themselves" unless they are MORE than a mother??Unsure ( not trying to argue, just a question)Smile I think that different people are cut out for different paths. Traditionally, being "only" a mother was our lot in life. We didn't have options. Over time, since we were good at taking care of children we became teachers....and eventually nurses....then secretaries! Now we can do ANYTHING! We can be mothers and ANYTHING else we want to be. I would give up everything else in my life if I had to make a choice between 1) being a mom and 2) being everything else that I am. BUT I'm glad I can be a mom AND a doctor. I'm glad I can wear cut-off shorts in public. I'm glad I can ride a motorcycle. I'm glad I can skydive. I remember a time, when I was a child, when NONE of my friends' mothers worked. That's a lot of change in a short period of time. I'll be the first female doctor in my hometown. 30 years ago I was the first girl to play little league baseball in my hometown. However, to dismiss the problems that we have with health care because it's what people think is the best is silly. Hey Val! I don't think many people would disagree about there being problems with paying for health care. That's very real. AND it's sickening to me that someone would see no problem with paying his physical therapist only $45 to keep him from having a permanent limp....or whatever it is he's trying to accomplish. I don't know how such a person can look that therapist in the face. Marc....I know that you work your tail off to save people's sometimes-sorry asses, with nowhere near the pay you deserve for the work you do. People love to bitch and moan about what it costs....but honestly, I think that physical therapy should cost more than a parachute. Maybe my priorities are backwards, but that's my thinking. What really grates on my nerves are people who think they have some "right" to healthcare and don't want to pay their $20 copay, but have no problem paying $40 for a pedicure. Obviously healthcare costs are high. But to think that people without health insurance get better care than people with health insurance is ludicrous. People without health insurance get emergency medical care....and they often get away without paying their bills....but they certainly don't get elective care. The situation with the cost being higher for someone with insurance is an anomoly. Typically that scenario is reversed. Insurance companines are billed at a much lower rate than an individual is billed for the same service. In fact, you CANNOT bill anyone lower than you bill Medicare. With this line of thinking, we should also not think about other things while driving down the road, we should not talk to one another in the car, we should probably not listen to music. These things all distract us. Practically, though, it would be ridiculous to regulate our behaviors in that way. We all weigh the risks we take. As adults, I would hope that we are all aware that when we drive down the highway there's a chance that someone might fall asleep behind the wheel, cross the center line, and hit us head on. It amazes me how many people these days are so impressed with their own perceived intelligence and/or wisdom to honestly believe they have God and the existence of, all figured out. What I think mankind needs is a real dose of humility. What else baffles me is how some people feel the need to prove to others that there is or is not a God. Why does it matter to one person what another person believes? Why do people think that their thinking is so superior to the next person's that they will vehemently argue for something that they cannot prove or validate except through their own processes?
