  2. I've jumped in both... much easier to maintain proper foot position and arch with tennis shoes. more ankle flexibility.
  3. that would be a good thing, if you're planning on more than 25 jumps.
  4. I hope to be out at perris on saturday... probably won't be jumping (no cash) but its fun to take pictures of all the canopies in the sky... -K-
  5. I know... Was gonna do the solo this weekend, but got food poisoning yesterday, so still kinda weak and dizzy, tho feeling better now. I figure if I'm dizzy on the ground, being in the air would be BAD. maybe on sunday, if I'm feeling MUCH better (and somehow find cash)
  6. I met someone who had to repeat level 3 five times. ouch... I kinda wish I'd failed a lev or two, tho... don't quite feel ready to jump solo yet. I have the skills but not the confidence.
  7. I didn't have to repeat any. My instructors told me that roughly 3/10 will get through without having to repeat.
  8. I had food poisoning!!!! I couldn't eat dinner at all!
  9. hehe... Totally understand the bra thing. For two weeks, I was wearing sports bras or those tank tops with the bra built in.
  10. ok...what was the symbol? I can't visualize it. this one.
  11. yup... you borrowed it. you're responsible for it... think about it... if it'd just been a simple mal, you'd have paid for the repack, right? you have to give it back in the same condition you got it. and... did you like the rig? if so, just offer to buy it, and replace the canopy yourself with whatever you want.
  12. hmm... I guess that'd work then... I do wear a lot of black.
  13. A responsible tattoo artist would probably do just that. Friend of mine went to get a tat... saw something on the wall flash that looked like a yin-yang, but with three swirley things, not two. She really liked the symbol, but the artist wouldn't do the tat unless she knew what it meant. (she didn't but I did, and was laughing my ass off... I'd have told her before she got any ink, of course). If she'd been by herself, and the artist hadn't been responsible, she'd have gotten inked with a symbol that she didn't realize was a symbol. She just thought it was a variation of a yin-yang. I think most of the posters here are correct... if you wear a symbol, you need to understand it. Otherwise, it somehow cheapens the meaning.

  15. hehe... sorry. my mom's a science teacher. the whole reptile vs. amphibian thing bugs us both. Lots of people think frogs are reptiles and snakes are amphibians... go figure. My mom actually had a parent come in and argue a test question with her... both the woman and her son were firmly claiming that frogs were reptiles. sigh.
  16. the whole idea of a white elephant is to give away something you already have, that's tacky, icky, or you just plain don't use. My brother's white elephant for last year: Clinton and Gore halloween masks. My white elephant gift: A tape "The Hulk sings Christmas Carols" My parents white elephant gift: A GI Joe episode...in french. if you're really stuck, go search the bargain music bins at drug stores or walmart.... pick something extremely tacky.
  17. seems like the general consensus is: do you jump? are you planning to continue to jump? are you somehow otherwise involved in skydiving (packer, manifest, pilot, etc?) did you used to jump but still love the sport? if the answer to any of these is yes, most would say go for it. I've heard some say "have to be licensed" or "have to have 200 jumps" but those seem to be in the minority. I've even heard of DZs giving necklaces to their AFF grads.
  18. I thought it had something to do with amphibians on amphetamines. A turtle's a reptile.
  19. hmm... I can tell you that: T-Mobile ATT Verizon Cingular Nextel all work fine at Perris. Dunno bout the GSM thing tho. not sure what that is.
  20. well... um... I'm not black, but I do sing fairly well.
  21. well, since there are many more male skydivers than there are female... seems like the male skydivers are gonna have to learn to get along with female whuffos, or there will be a lot of single guys out there, or we're gonna have to form a polyandrous sky society, which would be kinda weird. simple math... girls have a lot more chance of finding a skyboy than guys have of finding a skygirl.
  22. I haven't seen that one... will have to rent.
  23. hehe... I work for the City. We have a couple of moronic PC rules, but nothing that rediculous.
  24. hehe... cruelest thing I did to my old boss was quit. within three weeks, both leasing agents quit, three maintenence guys quit, and the assistant manager put in notice. Out of everyone who leased, I had 48 new leases, and the next closest person had seven. Of course, this meant that I had seven times more work than the next guy, and didn't get paid much more, because the ass of a supervisor I had would take away our commission for something as stupid as a typo in the file. (he thought if he didn't pay us as much, it made his bottom line look better... what he was actually doing was taking away our incentive to lease, so he actually made LESS than if he'd have paid us like he was supposed to). The jerk also violated so many fair housing laws that if the dept of HUD found out, he'd be in so much shit.... within a month, 8 out of 13 staff members quit. And gee... corporate wondered WHY... and made a couple of phone calls to former employees... I just found out the old boss has now reinlisted in the Navy and is currently swabbing decks (or something equally demeaning) on a ship bound for the middle east. He was fired for violating fair housing laws and for a "lack of managerial skills" We didn't have to go out of our way to make trouble for him. We just took reasonable actions to remove ourselves from the situation, and his actions came back to bite him in the ass. aaahhhh... Karma.
