there may be a correlation, but not a causation, I think. I've never smoked, but my brother was going through a rough time and picked up the habit. He quit when life got a bit better for him.

Better he stop and remind you (and maybe give you a ticket to reinforce the reminder) than have him not stop you and get T-boned at the next intersection.

yes, absolutely, every single time. I've even managed to convince my cousins that the car won't go unless everyone's seatbelt is fastened. My reason: When my family and I were heading to Colorado on a ski trip, we saw a horrendous accident. An older man was driving, and completely missed the bend in the highway. The car kept going straight, off the edge of the highway, down the embankment, flipping over two or three times, and finally landing on its wheels. We were the only ones around, and both myself and my mom have some emergency skills (she was a medical technologist, and I was a lifeguard), so we stopped to help. My dad and my brother became useful by calling 911 on the cell phones and getting some real help out there. We were about an hour north of Barstow, so the nearest help was at least that far away. The man was sitting up in his seat, talking. He had a bit of a cut on his forehead, and maybe a minor concussion, but other than that, was fine. His wife, however, had not been wearing her belt. She'd taken it off to get comfortable while she was napping on the long drive. She was thrown through the windshield, landed about thirty feet from the car, with major head trauma. Blood everywhere. She was conscious and speaking, but barely. We managed to get some of the bleeding stopped and then, because her other injuries were on the side that was in contact with the ground, we couldn't do much more than keep her calm. My dad and my bro kept the gentleman in his vehicle and wouldn't let him move til emergency personnel got there. They treated the gentleman for his head wound and talked him into coming into the ER for a checkup just to make sure there was no other head trauma. His wife, however, had to be airlifted out and flown immediately to the hospital. She was not in good shape. As he prepared to drive away, the EMT told me "thank god at least HE was wearing his belt. I hate going out on calls where we hear about a seat belt not being worn. We already know what we're going to find." My dad left a business card with the gentleman, but we never did hear whether or not his wife made it. Two people, in the same car accident. The one with a seatbelt walked away. The one without had to get flown out, and the prognosis was not good. That is pretty strong evidence for the effectiveness of seat belts, wouldn't you think?

I would not use ANY kind of drug/alcohol before jumping, and I would not knowingly jump with someone who did. -

She can do both. The criminal charges aren't filed by Rosa. They're filed by the state. The criminal case will be "the people vs. Creetin" the civil suit will be "Alva vs. Creetin". The criminal trial can send him to jail or put him on probation and the like. The civil suit will hit him financially. Our legal system recognizes two different kinds of cases—civil and criminal. A civil case is one in which a person who feels he has been wronged may bring legal action to protect his or her own interest or to collect damages from the person who has wronged him. The person whose rights have been violated brings the suit. In a civil case, the person who feels he has been wronged decides whether or not to bring suit against the person who has wronged him. He cannot request that the defendant go to jail except in unusual cases where the person he is suing may haveviolated a court order. In a criminal case, the prosecutor decides whether or not to initiate criminal proceedings, that is, to charge the defendant with committing a crime. The prosecutor also decides what legal penalty to ask for. In a civil case, it is up to the plaintiff, the person who has started the lawsuit, to prove his case with stronger evidence than the defendant has. In other words, the judge or jury must believe that the plaintiff has proven his case by a preponderance of theevidence. In a criminal case, the prosecution must prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. This does not mean beyond all possible doubt, but it does mean the court or jury must have an abiding conviction to a moral certainty that the charge is true. This is a much heavier burden of proof than in a civil case. In a civil case, any person may be required to testify in court. Everyone has the right to hire and appear with his own attorney or to proceed without an attorney by representing herself. In a criminal case, the accused person cannot be made to testify, and he has the right to a free attorney, an attorney appointed by the court, if he does not have the money or property to hire one. The accused person in a criminal case has many other rights which defendants in a civil case do not have. A defendant in a civil case may also be the defendant in a criminal case for the same act—theft, for example. http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache:4tXA-8C6YhIJ:www.lsba.org/Public_Resources/tape_9029.pdf+civil+criminal+differences+suit&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 -
LOL. Frankly, I'd think it'd be more damaging to the kids ON the list... honor roll students got beat up and trashcanned where I went to school.

I'd go for a civil suit. Check with a lawyer about Florida law, though. -
hey Greenies, can we have a sticky??

don't search by zip code. I just asked for the stuff within a two mile radius from my apartment. I gave em four major streets as borders and said "give me everything from inside these lines." and they did.

I will be there!

lol... if there are a lot to search through, you may not want to live there. When I researched my neighborhood, there were something like 12 reports, most of which were domestic disturbances.

Also, you misread the link you posted. It did not reflect AVERAGE income, but federal poverty guidelines. the AVERAGE family of five did not make $23,000 a year, the family of five making that much or less would be considered living at or below the poverty level.

First off, Dawn, the statistics you cited include the ENTIRE US. Yes, it includes California, which is the MOST expensive, but it also includes states in which the cost of living is extremely low. Looking at averages works very well when you are trying to live in a place with an average cost of living. It does not work when you are looking at something on the top of the scale. It also does not take into account that different cities and counties have VERY different cost of living. It is EXTREMELY difficult to find a one bedroom apartment in Orange County (very expensive, conservative area, where the school I taught was located) renting for less than $1000.00 per month. The apartment complexes would not even run an application for me, because I did not qualify because, according to their standards, I was considered "Low Income". According to the California HUD guidelines, someone making 23,000 per year in Orange is considered VERY LOW INCOME. That is for a SINGLE PERSON. http://www.hcd.ca.gov/hpd/hrc/rep/state/inc2k3c3.pdf You must take into account the area, not just across the US. Also, someone working your average of 40 hours a week works 2080 hours per year. Someone working 50 hours per week for nine months works 2000 hours, almost the same. Someone working 60 hours per week (closer to the norm for good teachers) works 2400 hours. MORE than someone working an average year (52 weeks, 40 hrs per). You say you take classes because you want to be more valuable to your employer. These classes are not required of you, but you take them anyway. Its something you do on your off time to improve your skills. Teachers are REQUIRED to participate, or they lose their jobs. There is a difference.

on the calendar: can a field be added requiring the poster to input the DZ name and the state? I hate having to click on everything in an entire month just to find out that all the events are on the other side of the country. Would be much easier to just be able to scan.

First and best place to ask about used gear is your own dropzone, when you're in Illinois. Ask the folks at the gear store, and ask the riggers. Next, this website is a pretty good resource.

I had this happen to me on a standard PC clone... The IDE cable had come loose. Did you check that?

call your doctor. Tell them what you told us, and they can probably give you some answers. my questions for ya: 1. did you remember to eat? 2. were you taking any medication? 3. did you remember to breathe and not hold your breath? -
threads in "events" tend to be informative, date, time, etc... Threads in talkback tend to be about who's going, where to meet up, and all that.

took me two days til I was up, around, and doing stuff. A week before I wanted to eat much more than slurpees, soup, and slim-fast (wouldn't use the stuff for a diet, but its a great substitute for when you can't eat solids) -

In dental terminology "impacted" means that a tooth has failed to emerge fully into its expected position. This may occur either because there is not room enough in the jaw for the tooth, or else because the angulation of the tooth is improper.
